What is your favorite book?

Mine without a doubt is Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.  I absolutely love it! I don't even know where to begin to describe it. lol

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I despise Catch-22 with a passion.  >:(

The Time Traveler's Wife is excellent, if you like mixes between a bit of sci-fii and fantasy. ;)

Mostly I like Piers Anthony and Terry Pratchett's books, though I'm veering more towards Pratchett as Anthony has been a little lacking lately. :P

And Douglas Adams still kicks butt. ;)

I once thought about reading his work....but then I met some of the people on the official site and they were nothing but complete whack jobs. So that deterred me greatly.  I did play Starship Titanic though. ;)

Oldbushie

:o

Wack jobs? I dunno, I read the entire Hitchhiker series and I survived. ;) True, I'm slightly demented myself, but nowhere near the absolute bounds of utter craziness. ;)

The people there seriously need to be in therapy.  It's not so much their obsession, but what it did to them that scared me off.

Oldbushie

What *did* it do to them?? ???

*ahem* Wacko official site peeps or not, Douglas Adams' works are quite good. I've read them several times, and I'm only mildly insane! ;) If you like Red Dwarf, Monty Python, and that ilk, you'll love DA's works.

BUT my absolute favorite book is still Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. A great philosophy/satire on everything from religion to beauty to politics to love.

best book? hahaha a No-Brainer for me!!

definetly the Bible! ....could recommend it to anyone any time ; )

second would be Tolkien's master piece(LOTR), could recommend it to almost anyone at almost any time ; )

Amen to that B'rrr. Along with that I would strongly recomend anything by Roger Zelazny, Douglas Adams, and Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series.

I'll probably get hit for this, but I don't see what the big deal is with LOTR. I read the Hobbit two years ago, and it was okay. I just don't see what the obsession is with it.

B'rrr

*hit Celli with hammer twice*

hahaha.... I'm not obsessed by it, I think it's just a good... ehhh great book ; )

I have to admit I don't understand the obsession with LOTR either. I mean, they were good books, but they would have been ten times as good if they'd had 90% less rambling overdone description, random singing, and pointless diversions. (Bombadil, I'm looking at you.) Which is why I like the movies much better... ;D ...even if they did put in more Arwen. :P (But they also put in more Eowyn, so...)

Peace & Luv, Liz

B'rrr

hmmmm.... LOTR was the first real book I read. I was 13 by then and I loved fantasy ever since ; )

and yes there are perhaps overdone description and such but it's a great story and a great fantasy ; ) ....I like the book better then the movie, for If I read fantasy I like to use my magination, while if I see the movie there would be little room for me to use my imagination ; (

I think they should get rid of arwen, if they wanted a love story so badly, they should have taken eowyn for she is way cooler then that elf ; ) hahaha.... but that's just my opinion ;

ps. CC of course I used a rubber hammer.... cuz I woudn't want to hurt anyone.... well perhaps not anyone but at least not Celli ; )

My dad started me on fantasy by reading a bunch of stuff to me when I was real young. He read me the Hobbit, LOTR, Narnia, Treasure Island, and some other stuff way back when I was 3 or something.

Phew, I was starting to get worried there. Thought I might have to make you a 'guest' at my asylum too. And two destructive personalities in one room is not good.
