Here is my configuration.  I've read all of the forums and this is my setup for my computer.  I've uninstalled this game 3 times now and getting really annoyed.  Why the heck make the game so d*** hard to download with all of these problems developers?  I'm sorry but I'm just frustrated because I don't know what is wrong with my PC or how to fix this.  It isn't letting me run in Vista the administrator, and I don't know how to fix this.  Please if someone has yahoo messenger please instant message me rclewis23@yahoo.com or send me an email to fix this.

system: Windows Vista Home Premium
Hewlett Packard, Pentium R Dual Core CPU
3.00 Ram
32 bit operating system
Display: Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family
Total Memory Approximately: 1309 MB
Current Display 1366X768 (32 bit)
Monitor Generic PnP Monitor
Sound: Conexant High Definition Smart Audio

Everytime I get to the configuration screen it says error while writing  and won't let me download anything.

Help please!

Russ

Russ, you already have the game downloaded. Install it to a different folder to bypass that problem.

Otherwise, just skip the configuration and load the game from your start menu.

Thanks!

everytime I try to open this it comes up as tsl.exe has stopped woring.  A problem caused the programto stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify yu if a solution is available.  No solutions are availalble.  I' tried to start it in the start up and now I'm giving up and I guess I wait until the developers actually can send out discs to download the game onto my computer.  Just getting annoyed that everyone else can do this please get on yahoo anyone to walk me through what I'm doing wrong.  Thanks.

Cez

I'll get someone to get in touch with you in about 20 mins or so.

Which application are you running as an administrator?  The configuration or the game itself?  Try running the configuration tool as an adminstrator and put all the options to the lowest settings and then run the game itself as an administrator.  I don't remember if you can get that option in Vista just by right-clicking the icon, or if you have to check the "Run as administrator" box in the Compatibility options.

I deleted everything wilco and cesar because it didn't work out on my computer.  Look at the other posts I've put what my stats are on my computer and so I guess I won't be able to enjoy this game.  I hope someone youtubes the game play so I can at least see the cutscenes.  I don't get why you don't have a live tech person or chat on here developers.  That would have been very helpful before installing the game or just instant message me if you can thank you.  I want to play this so please I don't know how to run as administrator.  What do you mean wilco?  Do I do this before installing the game or what?  Please advise thank you.

Cez

rcman, I'm sorry. I understand your frustration, and I'm really sorry that you can't play the game right now. I'm trying to get someone to help you, and get in touch with you directly but it may take a bit. Please hold on tight, we'll work it out with you.

I don't have Yahoo messenger on this computer but I can work on getting it in a few minutes if that'll help.  I'm running Windows 7 so it's a bit different, but if you can right click on the application icon itself and click on Properties, you should get a window with a tab at the top that says "Compatibility."  Toward the bottom of the options on that tab, there is a checkbox that says, "Run this program as an administrator."  Check that box for both the "Edit Configuration" application and the actual "The Silver Lining" application shortcut itself.

Thanks Cesar and Wilco for your attempts to solve my situation I appreciate it and don't mean to sound stupid or complaining on here just really want to play this game.  Ok so I deleted and uninstalled everything and now I'm downloading the game again and it is saying it will be 6 hours and I have fast internet and broadband so don't know if you guys are updating the game or whatnot.  To answer your questions about the configuration, I have to wait until the application is downloaded to actually change the settings.  I don't know what to do since I don't have windows 7 I guess on my computer.  I tried to download it online and it wasn't for free anywhere.  So yeah I'm screwed.  Alright well if you can get on yahoo or whatever and walk me through this mess that would help thank you.

what side of the world are you? I'll send you a personal message with the mirror closest to you so it takes less time to download.

When you do get the file downloading, make sure it ends with .msi, somehow some people were downloading one that ended with .exe that was causing some issues.  Once you have the installer downloaded post again and let's walk you through the full process step-by-step.

Rcman, have you updated your video/audio drivers recently?  If you haven't, updating those may resolve your crashing issue when running the game directly.  It won't fix the permissions errors with the configuration tool, but that's largely for convenience anyway.

In the case that you aren't sure what drivers to get, these look to be the correct video drivers for your system: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2991&DwnldID=19131&lang=eng

The audio drivers look like they'd only be distributed by your laptop manufacturer.

Thank you Kino for the link.  I went ahead and downloaded all the stuff for vista I would need.  Also, thank you Wilco for your help too in solving this hot mess of a deal today!  I am sure I am not the only one here but I'm glad there are technical people to help me out on here.  Seriously though, look into a chat room or a live person in the future that may help out the website even more, but you may need to pay the person double to handle the world haha :)

I guess people getting paid double of nothing isn't too bad right?

I'm happy to help out live through messenger or something, I just stopped lurking once everything really came to life so I didn't want to trump anybody else and claim to know what I'm doing - I'm just a bit comfortable with tech stuff here and there and am pretty decent at getting things to run when they don't want to.

Ok so now that I have downloaded everything I am on the options screen for the graphics and sound.  Please help me play this game and what I need to do now thank you.

wilco64256

For the graphics part uncheck the box next to "Fullscreen Mode," select "800x600" in the dropdown box next to "Resolution," change bit depth to 16, uncheck all the boxes on the right side for reflections and shadows and stuff, and set the detail level to "Low."  The audio settings should be fine at default levels.  Accept all those changes and then try to run the game.

Still says failed to write changes.  Nothing worked and I followed everything you said.  What next?

To what directory did you install the game? Don't just use the suggested "Program Files" path that the installer suggests, try another directory that your login has full access to (for example, somewhere under "My Documents", "My Games" is a good place in Vista and Win7) and see if that solves your problems.
