In the early interviews for the game, we were supposed to learn of the The Silver Cloak society, the opposing society to the Black Cloaks. The good guys apparently, or at least neutral.

What color was this guys cloak? Kind of a greyish color?

I do not recall such interviews so might be a really long time ago or even during my 4 year TSL break  ;)  Grey could be the new silver *ponders* If there is such a society in game it would make sense hinting towards it in the beginning already instead of introducing it halfway the game out of nothing.

Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

Ya know, now that Baggins mentions it, I do remember hearing about the Silver Cloak Society, though I don't remember anything about it.

I just don't know about the guy, though.  It'd be intriguing if he wasn't a "bad guy" and simply had his reasons for following Graham, but he does give Graham an "uneasy feeling", so much so that he wouldn't even say hello to him.  So my first thought was "evil", but I'm just not sure.  He could be a "good guy", a neutral party, the worst of them all, the initial instigator...  The ending of Ep 1 makes me lean towards the last one, the guy who set this whole thing in motion somehow.

Needless to say, he DOES leave me intrigued!

I think Cesar said we should pay close attention to the last Cutscene, im not sure if he referred to the Cloaked Man or something else.

It was in this interview, I guess, back in 2005. I just have just found the article last year.

QuoteThe game starts during a celebration in the Green Isles that go horribly wrong when a dark enchantment befalls the land. From there, King Graham embarks on a journey to reverse the spell, but as he does, he starts finding out that there's much more going on than what meets the eye. The story eventually tells the tale of two societies -- the Black Cloak Society and the Silver Cloak Society -- that were at war more than a thousand years ago. At that time, a prophecy was uttered. This prophecy is linked to the Daventry family and somehow explains all the events that have taken place during each King's Quest game

Did you notice that a later chapter is called "The Two Houses" or some such? Hmm?

The cloaked figure is...Cezar! and he's going to battle graham with suffers!  :suffer: :suffer: (we could do with some character smileys like a little graham in a hat...that would come in handy right about now!)

I <3 Connor but he is beyond my reach!

Thanks for finding that article!  It does indeed call to mind the title of Episode 2, so perhaps we'll find out a bit more about the stranger in the near future.

I wonder if we'll learn more about the Society of Wizards, the organization of wizards mentioned by Crispin in KQ5. How does it relate to the Black Cloak and Silver Cloak?

I know a little more about the mysterious cloaked man from later chapters, but I'm a bit fuzzy on who he is, too. Regarding the Society of Wizards, I was actually wondering that the other day. :)

Other than the reference in KQV, the second edition of the Companion, Peter Spear had his own take in the Second Edition of the Companion;
