Unfortunately not, but I do have an even prettier building! :P This is the opera house in Dresden, a city I'm going to visit next week. :P They recently finished rebuilding it and it's now there in all its baroquen glory. :D

True, but we had discussed it while I was neologizing it in fact.

Did we? :P Probably so. :P

Incidentally, why do people feel the need to celebrate carnival if they don't intend to "do" Lent? :P It's so very, very loud here. :(

I think I fixed it. :P

Also, I imagine it's the simple reason that this way they get all the "sweet benes" (pron.: binnies) as my roommate puts it without having to give anything up. ::)

They have capes and masks in Venice. It can't help but be more dignified as a result. :P (I am here assuming that this custom isn't observed in Basel.)

I saw two ballgowns, a group of French courtiers and A LOT of idiots dressing up as idiots and getting drunk (to add realism?). :P

And my father stupidly took out his convertible because it was a nice day and left the top open and when we returned it was filled with confetti. ::)

QuoteAnd my father stupidly took out his convertible because it was a nice day and left the top open and when we returned it was filled with confetti.

As I read through that sentence, I became more and more concerned: "stupidly? Convertible? Left the top open? Was it stolen? Did somebody steal the seats? Was somebody sick in it? Something terrible has hap-- Oh. Confetti. That's not too bad."

I'm also intrigued by the idea of idiots dressing up as idiots. XD

It was filled to the top! :P We had to sweep it out just so we could drive! :P

All public buildings should be like this!!

This isn't in image tags because of forum stretching. :P

I was looking for pictures of a steam machine for another thread and I saw that on WikiCommons. :D It's so garish and yet strangely attractive. XD

That quote sums up my response to baroque architecture almost exactly. :P (Then I tend to settle on the garish side.)

But baroque is more ostentatious than it is garish. :P

Where would one *get* that much confetti? :o

I think I'd prefer neoclassical:

Prince of the Aquitaine. Duke of York.

Knight errant and consort to Her Grace the Empress Deloria of the Holy Roman Empire, Queene of all Albion and Princess Palatine.

Deloria

You can buy 5kg bags of confetti here around carnival. :P

And of course neoclassical is much, much better, but I'm just so impressed that they would go to that much trouble for something as mundane as a pumping station. XD :D

To me, ostentatious and garish are more or less synonymous. :P

Why is Biri being unusually cuddly? More particularly, why when I'm in the middle of studying for finals? :P

Also, Hellenika. Hellenika is being howwible again. I ask you, why do you need DIFFERENT STEMS in the active and the passive? I miss Latin. Latin was regular. Latin was easy. That may have more to do with the fact that I didn't have an autoimmune disease when I was taking Latin and could have the odd stint in the hospital and still be ahead of everyone else *and* have better, more stylistically pleasing translations ;) without having to borrow the notes of A COMPLETE INCOMPETENT WHO THINKS THE PERFECT HAS AN AUGMENT. Ahem. Also, I didn't have a boyfriend I wanted to spend every waking moment with, life was simple and uncomplicated and I had nothing better to do than perfecting my GPA, reading book after book in order to sound cleverer than I am, and flirting with people whom I had no intention of ever pursuing (unless they had titles, in which case I didn't care whether I particularly liked them personally or not). ::) I've taken too many drugs. I should stop talking. :P This is fun. :D Maybe I should take up blogging.

I have a Greek test tomorrow. I intended to ace it, but memorizing all the stems for a whole list of verbs is really rather dull and mindless. :P I do, however, appreciate that it's archaic and SO irregular and that makes it entirely wonderful. And I wouldn't mind doing this. I have a love-hate relationship with the language, but whenever I tell people what I'm doing, the first thing they ask about is the NT, upon which I launch into my trademark tirade about how horrible Koine is. SCRIPTURE IS BORING IN KOINE. IT HAS NO NUANCES!!! IT IS GRAMMATICALLY AND STYLISTICALLY THE DRIEST THING IN THE WORLD!!! I can't speak for how it is in other languages. :P Also, it's very uninformative. There are lots of words that don't really say anything or express anything. :P Bear in mind that papyrus was expensive and they were just wasting space in saying nothing informative for most of the NT. :P Spell Check doesn't recognise "Koine". :P Also, why do people not get that many, if not most countries, are divided up into regions in which various different dialects are spoken? I understand that there are some exceptions (France), but there are so many examples of English-speaking regions, all with their own phrases and personal loan-words, that we can't afford to be ignorant of the existence of dialects. :P Now, I should mention that if someone asked if I were doing Old Ionic or reading Homer, I wouldn't react the same way. :P I'm very biased against scripture, but it has nothing to do with scripture itself, but rather the fact that it's the most simple dialect ever (for comparison, lolspeak) and I'm too much of a pseudo-intellectual to allow myself to be associated with it. ::)

When I was in Rome, I saw a Renaissance wall mural of the personification of Sapientia (wisdom) beating the personification of malignity. :P No one seemed to get the irony. :P

And yes, I just wrote a whole page of meaningless, rambling drivel to get out of doing Greek. *sighs* Alors, souhaitez-moi bonne chance.
