Just wait until you see season 3, Katie. It's my favorite of all the seasons. And the finale. OH the finale. SO epic! I just can't wait for the next Avatar show (and yes, they ARE working on a new series.)

Oh, cool! didn't know that! *wikipedias*

I guess Korra is going to be another Avatar? hmm...

I_am_so_nifty

I haven't seen the movie, but I get the feeling that it won't be all that great. Kind of like a MoE for Avatar--good, but just not fitting.

It's cool that there are so many other Avatar fans here. And... wait, spin-off series?
Also, it seemed for a moment there like we might get an interesting love triangle of Katara-Aang-Zuko, but that's sure dead in the water now, pun totally intended. I'm looking forward to Season 3.

Actually, "ZuKatara" as the fans tend to call it was apparently their original intention. They revealed that in one of those "Avatar Extras". And I'm sure you'll love Season 3.
This is Nifty, Royal Heir.

I'm like, an adult now or something? Sounds fake, but okay.

XD Don't want to spoil anything for Katie though...

What's funny to me?  The same guy who does the "voices" for Momo and Appa (sp?) in the cartoon did the "voices" for them in the movie too.

Didn't know that either.

Appa kinda disappointed me a little, he didn't look very cute like in the cartoon, but then it's probably not very easy to animate a flying bison. :P

wilco64256

Heck they've been animating those things since The Neverending Story in '84.  Should be a piece of cake by now.

Neverending Story! LOVE that movie. :)

Fantasia would be a fabulous location for an adventure game.  Totally wide open for a huge variety of imaginative scenes and puzzle solving.

One of my favorites! I suggest the book though too...

But back on topic: Yes, the new series is supposed to be called Avatar: The Legend of Korra.
According to my sources, it takes place 100 years after the original series and features flash backs to it. And it may be live action.
Even with all the negative reviews of the movie, M. Night is still talking up a sequel. I'm kind of surprised by that really. If they do greenlight a sequel, I have a feeling they're going to reassign it to someone else. I don't think they'll be giving M. Night another chance with their cash cow baby.

A new Avatar series, huh?  That sounds interesting!  I'm not as big a fan of the series as others (more a "third season and Zuko fan" than an all around fan, lol), but I did find it to be much better than a lot of American cartoons these days, so I'm definitely interested in a new season!  It's rare to find a show that's equally funny and epic.

I still want to see the movie though, despite all the bad reviews... maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment. :P  Also... I would like to see a second movie come out of it (though helmed by a different director), but only because I really, REALLY want a third. ^_^;;  I may later regret those words, but I really liked the third season...

I hope the new Avatar series allows The Air Nomads' line to continue, by allowing Aang to have a descendant.  He can't be the only one...

I_am_so_nifty

There are also theories that, since Airbenders are nomads, they could have roamed around and... well, you know. Had kids. With other nations.

And when you think about it, that's really weird. We don't yet know what happens when benders from two different nations have kids.

Since a new series is in the works, I would hope that the issue of the airbenders would be addressed.  It always made me wonder what would happen to the Avatar line if there really were no airbenders after Aang.  Would it skip and go to the next group of benders in line or cease to exist?

I started Season 3 last night...and I'm starting to think I should avoid this thread until I finish it!

Of course with how I go through shows on Netflix, that'll be like two weeks at most :P

Weird observation: notice how eye color is restricted by nationality?

The Fire Nation: amber, grey, brown, or gold
The Earth Kingdom: green, brown, or grey
The Air Nomads: brown or grey
The Water Tribe: blue

I'm wondering if it's possible that maybe grey- and brown-eyed members of the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom could be trained or made into (by
energy bending
) airbenders. I wonder if the fact that Water Tribe people only have blue eyes is a possible indication that something like what happened to the Airbenders previously happened to them.

*throws around wild speculations*

On a related note, who thinks the progression of books for this new series will be something like Earth, Fire, & Air? :P

I am a large fan of M. Night Shyamalan's early work, including The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, and The Village, but Avatar: The Last Airbender may well have been the worst and most disappointing movie I have ever seen. Almost totally, the writing seems to have been penned by a preteen, and the acting is flat or awkwardly exaggerated to the point of being laughable. I loved the anime series, and this film seems like a farce by comparison.

I even liked "Lady in the Water" quite a bit more than this awfulness of a movie.  It really had so much promise but turned out to be the worst movie I've seen this year (but that may only be because I haven't gone to see that Little Fockers mess).

I also liked the Dragonball Z movie adaptation a lot better than this one.
