A question...

Why the decision to give Alex a spikey hair cut? What prompted it? It doesn't seem very medieval or anything near the period KQ seems to take place in.

Well there was this ..... incident ..... on the Isle of Wonder.  We'll just say that Alexander finally learned not to run with scissors, and the hole in the wall learned to stay off the sidewalk.

To be honest, I like his new haircut. I don't know why, but to me, it just seems to work...

LOL

I have to admit... I really like it too (even if perhaps not the most fitting for the assumed time period)!  It seems to fit TSL's notion of Alexander better than his KQ6 hairstyle, at least I think so.

KQ6 Alex with spikey hair... hmmm... anyone good with photoshop? XD

It all has to do with Alexander's dark secret....

he does end up looking younger then in KQ6 because of it.  Or at least in my eyes he does.

Unfortunately, the part where Alexander's powers activate was in Part 2, so no go. :-\

I think he looks hot with spikey hair. ;P

Seriously, though, I do like it.  It works.  And you're right, Rob, he does look younger.  That's good, since he's supposed to only be 21.

If I remember my KQ Companion, isn't the year in the world of Daventry the same as ours-- only it exists in an alternate dimension where a lot of the residents branched away from our own in the medieval period.  And that world grew around magic rather than science?

That being the case, I'd imagine such a commonplace modern philosophy as unique hair styles to be multiversal.

But is "because it looks cool" really a good explanation when you're dealing with a well established (by other people) character and series?
Adding robots into the game might look cool, but that doesn't mean they'd at all fit. There are certain standards, certain guidlines, certain styles, modes or matters of doing something which define a product, a series, etc--That's why so many people disliked MoE. It shattered a lot of those standards, those guidlines, those things which we came to define King's Quest by. Calling a violet a rose does not make it a rose, no matter how much one proclaimed it to be a rose. Alexander's hair looks like an anime character's, and for a pseudo-Fantasy/Medieval world, it does not fit.
Spikey hair= 21st century.

It's to modernize the series. Does it fit in the medieval setting that King's Quest portrays? No, but then again, I didn't think Alex's slicked-back hair in KQ6 was very medieval appropriate either. Who did he think he was? John Travolta?

Regardless of it's relevance to the game's era, the hairstyle is really used "to look cool", and I personally think that that is a fine explanation when dealing with a well established character and series.

I don't mind Alexander's new look, but as a loyal KQVI fan, I must say this is a very legitimate argument. I am curious to know why the team decided to change his hairstyle, since it seemed to me that TSL has always been about bringing KQ back to its roots.

Why does the series need modernization? Also, if we're going to ''modernize'' the series by giving Alex spikey hair, why not go all the way with the rest of the characters and give King Graham a goatee and cut his hair short, and Rosella a "GI Jane" haircut or 'Liberty Spikes':

Also, having a large tome which illustrates the history of popular hairstyles (It's called "Fashions in Hair: The First 5000 years" and is over 1,000 or so pages long), I can assure you that the look Alexander sported was indeed around in the early medieval-early renaissance (prior to the mid 1600s when the wigs became all the rage)
Spikey hair, at least the way his is spiked, wasn't. The only thing close to that was the Celts, who wore literally a Mohawk--No variation.
