Okay, I'm gonna bow out from this argument, cause clearly there's no convincing you.

Somebody who was on the team when that decision was actually made may be able to give you a more complex explanation, but I'm sticking with it just looking cooler.  Personally I think that the longer hairstyle in KQ6 made him look about 10 years older than he actually is.

Not to mention the hairstyle goes great with Alex's facial expression in Weldon's avatar.  :P

Yes... Imagine the same face but with a mullet.  NOT OK.

But if you're going to turn Alexander into someone who doesn't look like Alexander (for example his hair and psychotic expression), why have Alexander to begin with? Why not just make him an original character? Why re-invent the wheel? We saw how well that worked out when Roberta tried it.

I don't see how Alexander's hairstyle is a "deal-breaker". Just because the artists changed his hairstyle, he needs to become a brand new character that hasn't been introduced into the series prior to this project? I'm sorry, but I fail to see your logic.

The Silver Lining is a fan-fiction project, which means that any details (as big as a plot twist or as minor as a haircut) can be disregarded by the team, if they so choose. Besides, variety is the spice of life. So I'm glad that the team tried to breathe new life into the King's Quest universe. It beats copying and pasting everything that Sierra has already made.

It's ironic that the spikey hair thing was likely done in an attempt to "modernize" the character and turn Alexander into something of a teen heartthrob, when nowadays most of the teen heartthrobs are sporting the (utterly hideous) Justin Bieber helmet head cut.  LOL.  I wish Alexander had THAT haircut.   ;D

Ugh, I'm glad he doesn't! The bowl cut does not flatter anyone. :P

I wasn't in on Alexander's character design myself, but he's allowed to have haircuts! Though we do jokingly call it his Dragonball-Z hair, I think it's fine honestly. It's not like it's ridiculously huge or big or anything.

I myself find it hard to make historical parallels--some, yes, but detailed ones are difficult when Daventry is clearly not Earth (yes, I know, there's some quote from Roberta saying it is, but this is 'in my opinion'), but a fantasyland that combines all manner of time periods, stories, cultures, and references.

I think the hair is fine. If it makes you feel better, you can think of it as Alexander's way of being a rebel ofter all the traumatic experiences he's been through. ::)

As far as the "psychotic expression" goes, I don't think it will look like that in the actual game.

Yeah his face on my avatar is just a random oddity that I screen-capped that doesn't even happen any more, it's not like he walks around making that face all the time.

But he is the winner for three years running of Daventry's "Most Furrowed Brow" competition!  ;D

Yeah! And he's been working on his brow-furrowing skills! XD

So after reading this topic, am I the only one left with a burning desire to see Rosella with Liberty Spikes?  Seriously, give her the giant spikes and give Edgar the Johnny Rotten look!  Anarchy in Daventry!

But yeah, when I saw Alexander's hair it took me a second to get used to it.  But then I did, because at the end of the day, it's just hair.  Besides, it's not like King's Quest was ever completely true to the medieval genre.  Shakespeare and volcano computers with outlet plugs anyone?  So let Alex have his spiky hair.  He's a king and he can buck fashion if he wants.  As long as he doesn't get the Bieber look.  Can you just imagine his psychotic look with the Bieber bowl cut?

Actually, I think Alexander has sort of a Taylor Lautner thing going on, so I wouldn't be so quick to say his look is missing the "modern" mark.  Anyway, his new 'do is WAY better than the the frumpish blah look Alexander was sporting in KQ6.  He looks younger and more spunky now.

By the way, the Justin Bieber style would make him appear way too weak and girly.  The bangs-up styling makes Alexander look more masculine and sporty.

Whatever.   ;D  I was just making light of the silliness of this debate.  ;)

"Cedric! What does the scouter say about his hair level?"
"It's over nine thooooooousand!"
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

Lol, that was very inevitable. Cedric saying "OVER 9000!" would be quite a sight though.

Indeed. I couldn't help it; it was set up too perfectly. :)

When KQ is brought up, "POIsonous snake" is inevitable, and when DBZ is brought up, "OVER 9000!" is inevitable. I wonder if they could be combined...I can't quite think of the right way to do it...A POIsonous power level?

I was just envisioning in my head Cedric saying "nine thousand" and holding out the "o" like he holds out the "o" in "poisonous."
