So... What Was Decreed that Must Be?

After playing through all of Episode I: What Is Decreed Must Be, I can't figure out what the title is referring to. King Graham didn't make any decrees, Alexander isn't in any condition to make any decrees, and, unless I wasn't listening close enough to the guardians with the Winged Ones, I don't think that they decreed anything either. Unless of course "You can see the Oracle, but can't go into our city unless you fly" is the decree, which seems to be a bit... underwhelming of a decree.

So what exactly was the title referring too?

Rosella

I've posted this before but I think the decree was the prophecy that was mentioned. Essentially, everything that will be, will be, and Graham can't escape his destiny.

It's funny how you find you enjoy your life when you're happy to be alive.

Fierce Deity

Rosella's right, it's about the prophecy at the end of the game. Graham had a vision that consisted of Silver Cloaks vs Black Cloaks, The Fates determining destiny, and the journey that Alexander and Rosella must go on. It all is about a prophecy that must happen, and can't be avoided.

All I know is that whenever I hear the title I get Bob Marley stuck in my head.

It was decreed that we would all be speculating on the question.  That's the beauty of it. ;)

All of the chapters' titles are from Shakespeare, right? Does anyone know the context of "What is Decreed Must Be" in Shakespeare?

What is its significance in Twelfth Night?

It was decreed that there would be twelve nights in a week, but that obviously didn't pan out. :P

To answer your question, I don't know.  I haven't read The Twelfth Night yet.

LOL sorry I could have clarified more.  It has to do with one's inability to escape fate.

From the play itself (courtesy of Cesar jotting down just this bit):

Olivia:   Fate, show thy force: ourselves we do not owe;
What is decreed must be, and be this so.

Oh, that's actually very cool. It enhances the whole meaning of Episode 1 for me.

Having been in Twelfth Night (though it was ages ago, so I could be wrong...)

One of the ideas behind the play is that as complicated as things can get, everyone will eventually end up with their soul mate -- and that is what Olivia is referencing. I don't think that's entirely what's going on here in TSL though since everyone's already with their soul mate...

I disagree with that, but won't go into that discussion here  ;)

*GASP* So you think that Valanice and Edgar will end up together, too?!

Ow...

I'm of the opinion that the 'decree' spoken of is the Thousand-Year Prophecy
(I capitalize because I care) and that the fates have played a far more direct
role in the lives of the Royal family of Daventry than we realized.

That's the conclusion I'm coming to as well.
