Demon's Souls is good because you really have to pay attention and be careful with what you're doing, button mashing will only lose you souls.  The first time I permanently lost over a million souls on that game was one of the most frustrating and amazing things I've ever experienced in a game because it wasn't cheap mechanics or a bad setup, it was because I screwed up and was careless when going back to retrieve them

Demon's Souls was simply an amazing game. First it had one of my favorite mechanics in a game: An open world where you could choose any path at any time. Then, yes, it was extremely frustrating at times, but like you said, it was all in being very careful (and very lucky sometimes). The boss fights were awesome!

César, how could you leave out Tales of Monkey Island? ??? You worked on it!

I did! But that doesn't mean I've played it! I haven't sat down to enjoy the full thing, just things here and there.

Awww... that's too bad. It's a great game!

Ravager? Another Bioware fan? Cool! Ever play Jade Empire? It got smashed between Revan and Shepherd, but it's a cute little game with their usual flair for characters and mythology.
Yeah big Bioware fan! I bought Jade Empire, but haven't got the time to play it yet. Does it play better with a gamepad or the mouse/keyboard?

Quote from: Allronix on July 28, 2010, 03:50:03 PMThough after dealing with Mass Effect and Dragon Age...well, the latter, I'm not playing again. When you're relieved that your character will die in the final battle, it's not really a good sign. Ugh. I needed the old Sierras to wash the taste out of my mouth.
Dragon Age: I haven't bought the game... yet. I'm a little annoyed with the DLC. Maybe one day...

Mass Effect 1: The installation limits was a big factor in convincing me *NOT* to buy game. Shame, I heard I missed a very good one.

Mass Effect 2: See my Dragon Age comments.

Quote from: Allronix on July 28, 2010, 03:50:03 PMI'm also no fan of the second KOTOR. It felt like a waste of time, even after I went through, modded, and patched in as much of the mess on the cutting room floor as I could manage. No matter what you did, you were screwed.
I didn't want to buy the game because Lucasarts rushed the game. I did played it at a friend's house. I felt it was highly linear at the beginning. While you start as a Jedi, you don't get a lightsaber until much later. And the bugs and patching, it's exactly like you said. There's the TSL restoration project that reintroduced the lost content, but I didn't get far enough in the game to see how good it was.

For some reason, I remember enjoying this one more than the first (by a small amount.) I can't really put my finger on why. I think maybe I liked the main villain more.
The game is a deconstruction of SW mythos and RPG. I think it was refreshing and a nice break from Bioware's usual clichés.

Also, Bioware didn't make KOTOR II, that was Obsidian. In fairness to them, the unfinished state of the game was apparently the doing of LucasArts, who insisted on a Holiday 2004 release.
Yeah. Even today, Lucasarts still haven't learned from their mistakes and probably never will. That's fine with me, I'll just looks elsewhere for my games.

Quote from: Allronix on July 28, 2010, 03:50:03 PMAs the pic indicates, I'm as big a fan of Space Quest as I am King's Quest.
Regarding Sierra, I'm more of KQ and QFG fan. Funny thing, my neighbor was more of SQ and Larry fan.

I think Obsidian is really trying to establish themselves as credible developers. KOTOR 2 didn't really get them off on the right foot, and I'll be honest that Alpha Protocol probably didn't help much either. But so far, they are making Fallout: New Vegas and Dungeon Siege 3, so hopefully they can show us what they're made of.

I'm a big fan of Bioware as well, but I think all of this DLC madness is going overboard. If I ever come into expendable income, I'll probably actually give the full experience a shot, but it's absolutely absurd how much they are milking those games for all their worth.

@Ravager: I usually prefer to play games like Jade Empire with a controller, especially because the game was originally made for a console interface. But when I got Jade Empire for the PC (cause I originally played it on the console), I found the keyboard controls to not be that bad. It was something I had to get used to, but once I did, I figured that customizing a setup for my controller would just be a waste of time.

As long as New Vegas is at least more stable than Fallout 3 I'll be happy, it already looks like it's going to have a good story and graphics.

Fallout 3 was pretty unstable. I'll be honest, I liked it more than Oblivion, but it still had some issues. I even bought 4 of the 5 DLC packs, and I'm contemplating getting the Mothership Zeta one just to finish it off. I'll even go as far as to say that I liked the DLC packs more than I did the main story.

But New Vegas looks interesting. I'll wait to see what people have to say, but I'm definitely keeping it under my radar.

Let's sure hope they do. They got a good writing staff and they got experience from their days back in Black Isle. But they can't always blame the game publishers for the bad state of their games. Just take NWN2 for example. Even in a fully patch state, NWN2 is still going to be a resource hog with outdated graphics, bad camera and terrible inventory system.

I agree. Maybe if they release a diamond edition like they did with NWN1, I might buy it on the spot, but I'm sceptical about this.

Oh, Mirror's Edge, how could I forget?

I've heard (not going to bother to look up any verification on this right now) that there's a sequel to Mirror's Edge in the works.  That would make me very happy.  I originally played ME on this tiny little tv that we have in our bedroom and I didn't really like it all that much, but then I picked up a 60" Plasma TV with some of our tax refund last year and suddenly ME was absolutely amazing.  I wonder how awesome it would be if you could get it to project the game onto an Imax screen...

Ravager, Jade Empire works best with the mouse, but you will need the keyboard commands to do things like change fight styles and dodge enemies.

Downloadable content is all well and good...but I hate it when you have to pay through the nose to get the full game. I do like my game mods, though. My copy of KOTOR 1 is modded close to hell and back, as is my copy of Sims 2 and my copy of Black and White. Sometimes, the fans can come up with some REALLY great stuff (this game being an example).

Usually, I'm not very concerned with graphics, but I agree, it's just gorgeous. And yes, there is a confirmed sequel.

Thank you both for the advice. I'm not sure when I'll play the game, but I'll be sure to give it a shot some day.

Unfortunately, it's the new business model for the industry in the last few years. I'm willing to pay, but some companies just exaggerate. They got more DLC, but they greatly diminish in quality.

I love mods! They give a 2nd life to my RPGs! (yes, even NWN2).

I love the X-Men Legends series! Why didn't they ported XML1 on PC? I wanted to play this game so much! It has Psylocke and Emma! In XML2, I'm stuck with Sunfire and Iron Man (who I think fell out of place). Maybe I should try those XML2 mods...

Ravager-Psylocke is one of my favorite characters! I was disappointed because she didn't even come into the game till near the end. But I still played her when she was. and I loved her English accent.
