Back story, I've been coming here since it started, in 2000 (when the plan was to use a home-brew engine, before moving onto CrystalSpace, and then to Torque), and, I've always been pessimistic about this thing ever getting done with the scope they planned.  Well, part 1 of 9 (if you consider Episode 1 a legit part) is done, 8 more to go!

While going through some old emails, I came across this one from a friend (Look at the date):

I read that about 2 months ago.  i visit the KQ9 site alot (the forums especially) at www.kq9.org I even recently got banned, then got it lifted hehe.

Personally though, I don't think the game will ever be completed.  The game is supposed to be huge, and, while they've made progress, and are currently still working on it, it's too much game for them to finish, IMO.  That's part of the reason I got banned, I'm so negative!

crayauchtin

You were right in that it is no longer the HUGE project that it was planned to be -- cut down from 9 parts to 5. So, in the end, you were partially right! :P

But the game will be finished. I have been getting some great emails from the creators. Sit tight everyone!

Sit tight and fidget - twiddle your thumbs or play with a Rubik's cube or something - we are really working hard to get the next Episode done.

Did they ban you because you thought it wouldn't be finished?

KatieHal

Said 'banning' was done by someone who's no longer with our team--there weren't any specific reasons noted down as to why beernutts was banned, so I don't really have an answer for 'why' I'm afraid.

And in case this gets anyone thinking this, NO, we are not going to ban people for being negative about our game. So long as you're still being respectful to everyone on the board, not swearing at people or insulting them, you aren't going to be banned. (Also as long as you're not a spambot.)

Sahara,

The banning mention in that email (which, again, was from 2004) happened because I was a pessimist, but it was lifted soon after.

I did get re-banned about 1 or 1 1/2 years ago because of my pessimism, and it was just recently lifted by KatieHal (Thanks again).

Did they deem your pessimism as "trollling"?
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

KatieHal

Hm...that may have been it. Trolling would be a bann-able offense as well, but I can't say for myself that I recall if beernutts' posts way back when were like that or not.

I think I missed most of beernutts posts, but I think the pessimism did cross into trolling a couple of times (wasn't it you that accused POS of trying to raise everyone's hopes even though they knew they could never get a game released? :-\)

I, for one, am glad to have you back though. We were talking about you not too long ago during the C&D -- wish you coulda been here! It would have been nice to have someone we expected to be all doom and gloom being all doom and gloom, instead of a whole bunch of strangers! :P

Once upon a time there was a young girl who was dying of leprosy.  Oh, and she was also armless and legless.  She decided that with every email sent, she'd raise one penny towards the Leprosy and Arm and Leg Restoration Fund.  So pass this to at least everyone in your address book twice and--

Oh wait.  This isn't the right place for chain letters? ;P

Seriously, though, I missed most of beernutts' posts too, he stopped coming by the time I was posting.  But hey, there IS  a difference between pessisism and trolling.  I think he dances along the line. ;)

Well banning someone for pessimism would be rather evil... and unethical on many levels. Just as would be banning someone for "disagreeing" on some topic.

Banning someone for trolling is entirely permissible.

Exactly. Which is why I want to be clear that we are not and will not ban people simply for having opinions and expressing them if they don't agree with certain other people or something like that.

I don't have the original email, but I believe he said something along the lines of "we don't need your negativity right now, and I'm going to restrict your privileges."

You're welcome to look through my posts as most of them are still available (the ones from WAYYY back are gone though).  I don't think I've ever "Trolled".

In fact, I even had a different moderator remove my post, and this was the reason given:

Hey Beernutts.

Lol, I understand you are probably as dissapointed as the rest, but I had to remove your comment from the thread because at the moment we're trying to keep the tone as positive as possible, it's nothing personal against you, I hope you can understand that.

Quote from: crayauchtinwasn't it you that accused POS of trying to raise everyone's hopes even though they knew they could never get a game released?

No, that wasn't me.  I tried to keep it above ground, but being a software developer, and doing some free projects of my own in my free time, I know what it takes to do this stuff, and, the scope of the game and where they were, it seemed impossible that was ever going to get finished.  We'll see about this shorten project getting to it's conclusion.

wilco64256

We'll see about this shorten project getting to it's conclusion.

It will.  Episode 2 is creeping steadily toward being finalized and the majority of the work for the other episodes is done, we'll just move on to each consecutive episode in order now.

Wilco, allow me to take a "I'll believe it when I see it" considering we've been hearing, "it's coming out soon!" for at least 6 years.  As you and I both know, "the last 10% of a project takes 90% of the time."

Good luck.

The project is moving along at a nice steady pace. With the hiring of new members the speed 'should' increase. Trust me, please, you will get all of this game! I promise you all or my forum name isn't Waltzdancing.

It's not "Waltzdancing."  It's "waltzdancing."   ;D ;D :suffer:
