I'm gonna keep using Win98se long after it's dead, perhaps I'll even reprogram it myself someday to make it do more advanced stuff.

Are you going to reverse-engineer(?sp) Win98? :o

I think he meant that Microsoft doesn't support it anymore but it still works fine.  98, 98SE, and ME(yuk) will be supported until 30 June 2006 till further notice from Microsoft.

If in your case, it was dead, the OS running on my older pc is probably decomposed by now. :P

Hee. Harrison has a computer with Windows 3.1 on it. I use it to play old adventure games sometimes.

Actually, Harrison misses Win3.1... I think he wishes he could realistically have it installed on his current computer!

XP has a command prompt that works similar to DOS, but it's not DOS itself, which is why most older games don't work.  In order to play previous games, you have to find a DOS-emulator like "dosbox" or something.  Don't ask me where to find it or how to use it though since I don't play older games.  ;D

Lmao, why would u think I would ask you something computer related Neil...dunno where you would get that idea from  ::) *innocent whistling*

Ah well, I suppose I will just hav to miss out on playing my old games  :'( Besides I hav no money as a poor student to get a "dosbox" (whatever that may be).

DOSBox is freeware, actually:

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/

It's basically a program that pretends to be DOS so you can run programs in it without problems. (Or at least, with hopefully fewer problems.) Unfortunately you're on your own for figuring out how it works... my computer is ironically too slow to run DOS/PC game emulators at a speed faster than molasses in January.

Oldbushie

Dosbox is much better now, the next release will even be able to run Windows 3.1! :D
It might even run Windows 95, though that's a bit more iffy and if they make the emulator so it is capable of that it may not work as well. Though I'm sure they can put modes in, so you can turn on and off different features. ;)

Maybe when they get the core stuff done they can focus on the extra stuff. :) Once it can run Win98se I'm shifting to Linux as the main OS. ;D

Well I'm sure everyone knows that KQ6 doesn't run on Windows XP. But how exactly do you solve this problem? I have Adandon Loader and VDMSound running, but it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Jeysie

Hmm. I have a friend who got the DOS version of KQ6 working fine in XP, but he said he could never get the Windows version to work. If that doesn't bother you, I can flag him and make sure he reads this thread so he can offer suggestions. :) (Well, unless someone else offers some ideas first.)

Peace & Luv, Liz

Louisiana Night

If it's the DOS version, use DOSbox.

sivvrianBARRY

AHA! The solution to my problems (hopefully)! Thank you Jeysie and Louisiana. I'll try installing the DOS version and DOSbox tommorow.
