It's been asked before in the Off-Topic forum, but why not ask officially?  So, what's your flavour? XD

When I have time to listen to music, it's usually Contemporary Christian and Musicals!  My friends and I LOVE musicals!  My sister and one of her best friends have "Tom, Dick, and Harry" from "Kiss Me Kate!" down pat, as in they actually do the dance in our living room while we're watching the movie!  And "Chicago", don't even get me started on how into the songs Christine (my sis) and Rachel (our best friend) get...I mean, they do every move of EVERY song!  I just sit there laughing at them!  lol

I'm a little bit of almost anything. :) I don't like most rap, heavy metal, or country, but I'll listen to pretty much anything else. I have a soft spot for 60's, 80's, and barbershop, though.

There's very little I won't listen to.  Except for very twangy country, hard core gansta rap, and musak (a.k.a elevator music).
My favorite music is a culmination of instrumental and rock - which is why I like Evanescence and Linkin Park (to name but two).  I mainly listen to movie soundtracks - both the score and soundtrack variety.  I really like the music from Matrix Reloaded - I listen to both of those CDs a lot.

To break it down:

Rap - love Run DMC and Public Enemy (yeah, I'm stuck in the 80's there).  I also think Eminem is excellent.

Country - Reba, Garth Brooks and any of the more "rock 'n roll" country.

Techno/Trance/Ambient - pretty much anything, actually.  I love the beats and bass lines.

Rock 'n roll - most rock I'll listen to.  I enjoy classic rock of the 60's and 70's and the monster ballads of the 80's the best.

Alternative - When bands like Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers were considered alternative, that's what I listened to.  Today's alternative all sounds the same - a whiny teenager singing about his first pubic hair or something - I don't dig it.  And all of today's alternative sounds the same - it sucks.  Although I do like Avril Levigne

Classical/Opera - Chopin is probably my favorite.  Amy loves Mozart the best.  But I'll listen to anything.  My favorite opera is probably Carmen by Bizet.  It's got some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard.

R & B - I miss my diva, Whitney.  She was my girl in the 80's.  I still think that if she was still in top form today, she'd blow away all the Christina's and Beyonce's that exist now (don't get me wrong - I really like Beyonce and while I think Christina Aguilera is a bit strange, she has a wonderful voice).

Hip Hop - I don't have a particular artist in this category.  I don't listen to a lot of hip hop.  Mainly the top 40 is what I hear.  I'll listen to them mainly because I get caught up in their beats and often the lyrics can be fun(my milkshake brings all the boyz to the yard and they're like it's better than yours, damn right, it's better than yours....he he he)

Pop - Ah, yes, pop.  The Britney Spears generation.  I admit, the girl can dance, the girl has AMAZING legs - yowza (ok, chill out boy before your wife reads this), but she can't sing a single note.  I guess R&B and Pop kind of go hand in hand now - are they really a separate category for the most part anymore?  I'll listen to most Pop - it's fun and you can dance to it.

Why I can't I ever write a short post?

I'd say most of my musical tastes are around R & B and Hip Hop.  8) But truth is, I'd like any song if I heard it enough times. ;D

Classical/Instrumental is alright for soundtracks, restaurant music and elevators.  What I mean is I prefer this kind of music as ambient background music, since it's relaxing, but I personally prefer music with vocals.

Trance/Techno/etc I was really into this stuff at one stage but I found the repetitiveness a little too annoying, even though there are some really good songs, overall I don't like them.  :P

There are a few Alternative songs that I like, again mostly if it has a good melody and vocals.  Heavier stuff doesn't interest me.

Jazz/Blues/Adult Contemporary isn't really my style. ;D

Oldies/Funk/Old School: hehehehe oh yeah, I love listening to old stuff 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and even 90's.  When I hear them I can't believe how I used to LOVE a certain song at the time.  The older stuff is usually what you hear at weddings so they're classic.

The only Country I like is Shania Twain.  Pop is too broad of a category, but I'll just say there are some songs I like and some songs I don't.  :P

Mostly old music I like, pretty much classical and some soft rock. And old game music. There's a lot of other favorites I have but those are the main ones.

Punk and pop mostly :) And the ever mixable genre of pop-punk. Most of that is due to the influence of my best friend who's a huge punk fan. Sadly it came to my attention that I even like a little bit of ..*shudder* emo!! Gah!! I didn't know I swear!!

Names? Barenaked Ladies, Great Big Sea, Blink 182, Something Corporate (all the most recent bands I've seen live), Jewel (old school Jewel, forget this new image crap of hers), All American Rejects, New Found Glory, enjoying Maroon 5 so far, hmmm..,..

I also like really good musical scores - like LOTR, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. And soundtracks I enjoy for the mixing of different genres and new names.

HATE twangy country, most rap & the like, not a fan of heavy metal, and I don't like Marvin Gaye or Prince. Never have. Ugh. Too cheesy.

Classic I enjoy - Billy Joel, U2, Jon Bon Jovi (okay, semi-classic!), etc.

I also enjoy how typing R & B came out looking R&B

I'm an old Seattle grunge fan. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana...good stuff. Collective Soul is awesome too as is older Stone Temple Pilots stuff. I'm a 90s Alternative kinda guy. I rediscovered the Gin Blossoms a while ago and was going strong on that for awhile. Social Distortion, older Offspring (Smash was an amazing album), Green Day (probably my most consistently favorite band), Blink182 though not so much now, Weezer, Rage Against the Machine, and lots more. As for the more recent rock bands, I'm really into Audioslave (Chris Cornell is just awesome, what can I say) and some Nickelback. I can't think of any others right now.

As for other genres, I enjoy classical music and really get down to jazz and blues. I'm talkin' about BB King New Orleans blues, though, and not R & B. I like funky bands too like Primus and I actually ended up getting into Texas Country, which is like regular country only with a heavy rock influence. Such examples include Cross Canadian Ragweed, Reckless Kelly, and Cory Morrow. In fact, some guy wants me to drum for his Texas Country band, and I just might.

Hip-hop and Rap I hate with a passion unequaled by most, but every now and then a rapper gets through to me inexplicably. For example, I love OutKast (always have), and the guy that runs with them, Sleepy Brown, is cool as hell.

One band that I'm really really into right now is O.A.R. Anybody heard of them? They're amazing. They're kind of a folk-rock kind of band from Maryland and they're just awesome, especially while under the influence of some killer substances.

I can't stand nearly all hip-hop and rap either. I was really surprised when Hey Yeah didn't make me want to immediately beat my head against the closest object.

I’d have to say that I like an eclectic mix of stuff. My play list is all over the place.  I can say this much I’m a huge “Beatles” fan!  I know, I’m like two decades too late, but that’ how I am lots of music. I also thing Arlo Guthrie… who else can sing “Alice’s Restaurant” from memory?

I like hip hop (right now, the Roots especially, but I enjoy the beats of a lot of popular hip hop around), classical (especially stuff from the late Classical / Romantic era, Mendolssohn, Beethoven, Schuman), some rock but not much (70's stuff, Hendrix, Zepplin), jazz I'm a big fan of (John Coltrane, Kenny Garrett) I aslo like some pop (in a weird kind of way) as long as the song is catchy.

B'rrr

hmmmm..... I like a bit diversity, so I voted 'bit of everything' but I'm not really into hiphop/rap nor house/techno ; / ...still the rest is ok, although i prefer mystic music ; )
