Hmmm, I think I may be doing something wrong. I'm working on a Windows Vista 64 bit machine with the Intel 965 express chipset family. I've got the problem of getting sound but no video. Basically it looks like it tries to open but gives an error saying it can't switch to the display or something of the like. I've tried to update the driver using your link but it says, "A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer." If it helps, I have an Intel Core (TM)2 Duo CPU T6400@2.00GHz. 4Gb RAM. Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section. Hopefully, I can get this to work! I've been looking forward to it for a long time!!!

If your computer was manufactured by a company like Dell or Lenovo or HP you would need to get an updated video driver from them.  If you need help figuring out how to do that post the make, model, and manufacturer of your computer.

Thank you for moving the post to a more appropriate section. I have a Dell XPS M1330. Let me know if you need more information.

No problem, it was in the right general area I just wanted to pull it of k3n's thread so that I can close it when we get things working for you.

Try this link:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WV64&catid=6&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=XPS_M1330&hidos=WV64&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=True&scanConsent=False

Download and install the newest video driver for your Intel Chipset there and see if that helps.

Thank you. Downloading as we speak. Once it's finished, I'll reboot and see if I can't get it to work! I'll post back to let you know!

Well, that unfortunately didn't work. I still get the "Hardware failed to switch to the specified mode" error. Any thoughts?

Have you tried running the configuration tool and setting the game to all of the lowest settings and to run in a window instead of fullscreen?  If that doesn't help at all let me know how much video memory your system actually has, and go into the folder where the game is installed, open the file called console.log (may just say console if you have extensions hidden) and copy/paste the last 20 lines or so of that file in a reply here.

Got it to work! Had to lower the resolution and detail once inside the game. Looks great. Thanks, y'all.

Well there we go, I'm thrilled you were able to get it running, enjoy!
