Akril

You know, Tolkien ripped off the name of another mythical beast to use for a creation of his own.

Sailors spoke of huge, sharp-jawed, black and white creatures that swam in the cold, northern waters. The name that they came to call them by later was altered slightly to become the common name that the real, non-exaggurated animal is known by: the Orca.

That's right. Orcs were fierce denizens of the ocean...until good ol' J. R. R. came along. Sad, isn't it?

OK, so. So far I've gotten that elves don't fly, fairies do, and orcs existed in some form before LotR. And aren't tiny versions of fairies called sprites in English? The rest I'm just confuzzled. ;P

B'rrr

sprites.... isn't that the plural of sprite? and isn't sprite a soda (like 7up)? ...<sigh> this is starting to confuse me ; )

Jeysie

Yes, sprites is a plural... I was trying to match the plurality of "tiny versions" and "fairies" in my sentence. Perhaps "Isn't a tiny version of a fairy called a sprite?" would have worked better... I apologize.

And yes, Sprite is also a soda brand. English sucks, doesn't it?

Yeah i think Sprites are small fairies or something close to that ;B

Oh, OK then. I just wanted to make sure. :)

Speaking of fairies flying... does Edgar get to do any flying in KQ9? And does Rosella get airsick?  :suffer:

Good question Jeysie ;) :suffer:

My dictionary says a sprite is:
a) fairy,
b) dwarf, and
c) (wood) spirit. 8)
