In some threads we've been discussing future games PO Studios might make. I'd like to make an official thread for such discussions!

I know we'd all love it if PO Studios stayed in adventure gaming -- and I'm sure you guys will -- but is there any chance of seeing some with elements of other game genres? (ie something along the lines of an adventure game with RPG elements, such as we saw in Sierra's Quest for Glory series?)

Also, story is a huge deal to PO Studios. It seems like Corridor 9 is going to be science fiction-y but I do wonder if there will be a return to high fantasy, sword & sorcery. I hope so, because as you all know by now, I'm pretty much sold on those stories from the starting gate. :P I'm also curious at the chances of seeing some more realistic and/or historical fiction in the grand tradition of Police Quest and Laura Bow/Freddy Pharkas.

Any thoughts?

I'm sure we will branch out some more, it's just hard to say right now because as a company we are very much in the beginning stages! We have to consider a lot of things when picking our next projects. So while nothing may be of those genres right now, there may very well be in the future.

Just my personal two cents, something along the lines of Quest for Glory would be sweet. I've always thought QG was a perfect mix of adventure and roleplaying. Sure, I'd get stuck OFTEN in those games, but at least I can go out and work on my character stats and loot a bit while trying think out puzzles. And heck, they just had awesome character development and stories.

All too often these days 'RPGs' are more RPG than they are adventure. I think doing it the QG style (more adventure and then RPG) would be awesome. I have yet to see that replicated (even in the Elder Scrolls seires) properly.

It's always been my opinion if someone did something QG style, that would still be marketable to mass audiences: an adventure disguised as an RPG. You'll actually trick people into playing a good game instead of firing a gun at the same 10 enemies for 48 hours. :-P

Definitely worth considering, POStudios!

I'm currently writing up a script for a platformer about a guy who's looking for a cookie to eat.  Mostly just because I'm out of cookies, it may go back on the shelf once I go to the store...

*chuckles*  I've got a couple ideas floating around, but they're still basic framework-wise.
I'd be glad to share them with the team at some point, maybe when we're closer to finishing
TSL and I've had time to write the story.  :D

I'm looking forward to what POStudios can do.  The short time I've worked with everyone has
been fun and amazing.  They're all extremely talented...

Honestly, QfG is my favorite series of games (with KQ and Elder Scrolls coming in a close second) and something along those lines would be totally marketable -- even an MMO along those lines would be totally marketable. A lot of current RPGs miss the mark -- there's virtually NO "adventure game" qualities, with the exception of Elder Scrolls and the attention to character is slim to none. I guess that's why they call them hack-n-slash.

I'd really love a fantasy RPG with QfG's adventure game aspects, an incredible story, and the amount of world-detail given to the Elder Scrolls games. I know, asking for a lot. :P

Actually, I do have an idea for a game but I think it would work best as an MMO and I don't think that's a direction PO wants to go in because it would be hugely costly to set up and the episodic framework really doesn't work that well.

an MMO QfG type game would be fun.

Or even just QfG itself as an MMO! It can be "Reimagined" so you can explore all of Glorianna. There's so much story and history to all those lands that it would work well as an MMO.

My idea (Activison, are you listening?): Create an MMO called Quests of Glorianna and DON'T EVEN MENTION it's based on QG. TRAP people into the game by thinking it's all new... fresh... but really, it's based on awesomesauce games. Then... BOOM the QG world is born again.

But anyway, I'm straying off topic here.  :-X

I am just so glad you guys are doing games like adventure games that the big boys are not doing.
Episode 2 is becoming more and more awesome every time I play it.
If you did work out a deal with activision I would love to see a SQ7 or another PQ with Sonny Bonds.
Otherwise new game would be awesome as well and I will certainly be interested in C9 and other future
games you would be working on. :)
