Hello Fellow KQ lovers,

In my procrastination from studying for exams, I decided to do a web search for King's Quest sites just to relive my simpler exam-free childhood.  I stumbled across this site and it blew my socks off.  From the very first flash intro, you can tell that the people here really care alot about this project and are not doing a half-butted job.

I've checked out all the art work, and those backgrounds look awesome.  I was especially impressed with the hallway entrance, that looks like something straight out of KQ5 or 6 but original and creative.

Anyway, just wanted to say wow! and to encourage all of the hardworkers to keep going.  I wish I could help but i have none of the technical expertise needed to bring something like this to life.

Oh, and just one question, the site says that its past pre-production and fully into production.  Could someone tell me the difference between the two?

Thanks
A very excited newbie :)

I'm kinda sorta new too!  I came across this in the hope that there was gonna be a KQ9, and I'm liking what I'm seeing!  As long as it isn't anything like KQ8, please!  Also, I can just about forgive ya if ya put Connor in, as long as the game isn't a KQ8!  ;D

What did I say. Another new one!

MangoMercury, please do not use the term 'KQ8' and 'Mask of Eternity' in the same paragraph. MOE is not a true KQ-game, IMO. So please refrain from referring to it as such.8)

I did O_o?!  I didn't think that I did, but if I did, then apologies!  I didn't like MoE myself...  But that's merely my opinion.

Welcome to the board. I first heard about Akril's kq9 at her website, and from there I found this site. I'm glad I decided to come back here after discovering it years ago. I'm now a member of the project.

Ah, but don't we all miss the innocence of...just about everything? :)

In relation to your notes there snooze, I think it's the kind of idea of what *could* happen versus what is extraordinarily unlikely.  Bear with me! I realize that whilst we may all wish we lived in Daventry and had adventures with fun members of its royal family, we, alas, do not.  However! The ideas are much more reasonable.

The thing was, anyone could more or less have gotten through the obstacles in KQ8, it was convenient that Conor caught that piece of stone. however, in the other games, very specific people were the only ones who could have done what they did!

And what's more, the situations may have been in fantastical settings, but they were still realistic problems and logical solutions. KQ8 threw in the big reason action games are prized more for their graphics, effects and sound.  It's easy. Don't get me wrong, they can be fun too - kind of like with books. If I want a fun read that I'll enjoy and get through quickly, I'll pick up one of guilty pleasure 20-something novels. But if I want a really intelligent book, one I can think about, one that impresses me, I'm going to get something more like Lord of the Rings. It takes longer to read, it makes you think about what's going on and has lareayd happened as you read, but it's much more fulfilling.

I suppose you could go into how this gets into culture being geared more towards faster, faster, faster, get it now, no patience, can't wait, don't want to think about, just get to the good part and get it done, now!! Hm, maybe that's why divorce is increasing....wow, okay, I'm drawing this one out a bit far! It is honestly connected, I swear.

Okay, I'm gonna stop rambling now:) But my point is, KQ are better games because they are logical, well thought out, realistic, and the graphics, etc are what *enhance* them, not what *makes* them.

Now, in KQ9 for example.......

hah!! Yeah, right, Cesar'd KILL me!!  :suffer:

In KQ1-7, I don't think the graphics ever were the most important part of the game. Only in MOE did I feel the focus was slipping from the plot to the graphics, and the graphics were, as I said, not suited for action-players at that time. They were already used to something much bettter.
Typical adventure-players don't care much for the graphics. If they're very good, that's always convenient, but that's not why they acquire a game.

Ah, well I guess MoE isn't bad for people who like that sort of thing...  But I like the actual King's Quest games!  With all the pointy and the clicky and whatnot XD

I always have these debates with people about graphics in video games.  Maybe my growing up with such games as the King's Quest series hasmade my un-need for graphics.  To be quite honest, I'd sooner sit down with a copy of King's Quest, than one of the latest games out.  My gaming platform of choice is the GBA, I just love the 2d graphics!

But hey, I like point and click games ;D  People think me weird, but that's what ya get for having "mango" in your name!

Hmm KQ10 on Xbox, anyone? ;)

Since I neither have an Xbox now, nor do I plan to buy one in the future, I vote 'no'. 8)

Yeah, point and click is fun. ;D

Hey, they should make a mouse for a videogaming system... that way adventure games can be extended a lot easier. And a keyboard too! Of course, then it's reduced to being a specialized computer, but hey...

Do you know how hard it is to point and click with a joystick, though? The mouse is so much more instantaneous...
Ah, well. I love playing on the PC anyways, although I play the occasional video game if there's no port for the PC.

It surely isn't. Now, I was once very good with a joystick and one of the Star Wars games. However, my hand-eye coordination must have suffered through years of neglect because when I tried it again a few years later, I sucked. :-/
I was just referring to the fact that game consoles have gamepads, not that gamepads should be used to play adventure games on pc. 8)

Don't know much about joysticks, I prefer the mouse.

I still have a joystick lying around here somewhere, but since I no longer play any games which are easier with a joystick it is no longer attached to my pc. 8)
