The Hero

so i herd the interview and you guys said something about  a director's cut with more of the original story and the full ep pack?

It will actually just be like one huge game, not several individual episodes.  The story will still be exactly the same, you'll just be able to visit all locations and work your way through everything at once.

Are you definitely going to release a director's cut? Or is it just a possibility?

I'll say the likelihood is extremely high.  We're trying to keep the programming setup to allow for it when we're done with everything else but it will still take some extra testing and cleanup to get it working properly.

How will you handle the various end-of-episode cliffhangers though if it's one long game?  Will you use additional scenes to transition the episodes together?  Or will you just have each chapter fade to black and then the next one begin?  If the latter, it'd still feel very episodic, since you'd still basically be playing one part of the story at a time.

In KQ6 you had to accomplish specific tasks and reach certain points in the game to make progress right?  And there were still brief cutscenes as you accomplished some tasks that moved the plot of the game forward, but it doesn't feel episodic.

YAY!  I will be very excited to play it like this, as I am really not a big fan of the episodic feel.  Also then it's a little more non linear, and there will be more exploring to be done.  should be great!

What Weldon said. :)

Almost all of those cutscenes existed before the game was organized into episodes--they all already have a place in th narrative where they would show up regardless, we only moved them slightly to place them more strategically in the episodes to where it made sense for them to show up and where it worked to the best dramatic effect.

Answering a question of doon's here, where it's fitting to thread:

So in the Director's Cut version, will exploration be the same as in the episodic format (the map progressively becoming larger, with more places to explore as you progress)? Or will you start with the whole map to explore?

The second. You would have the whole map and probably the whole list of ingredients right off the bat.

Plus the cookie.  There won't be any other way to get it in the Director's Cut.

Wow, this sounds awesome. How long after the release of Episode 5 should we expect it?

Coming from Weldon, that may just be the most specific thing he's EVER said lol. I can't wait for the director's cut... It should definitely be interesting!

Are there going to be any more puzzles or screens or anything added to the Director's Cut? What about developer commentary?
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

Commentary tracks are something we've thought of.  We'll see when we get there if it becomes an actual feature.
