Believe it or not, but I acually hated the last season. The actors are good, don't get me wrong. I really enjoy their preformances, but the writing just turned me off.
Even going so far to turning some episodes off.

I got into Doctor Who when Rose joined the club. So the new seasons. And I did really enjoy them all, up until this one.

(Granted, the Christmas Special and Van Gogh episode were great)

I respect your opinion and you are not the only one out there that does not like series 5. Just as I am not the
only one who thinks series 5 is the best new who series. The writing is different of course and in my opinion
better. When the new series started in 2005 right through till when david tennant
doctor died russell t davies was the head writer. As soon as matt smith took over steven moffett had taken over as the writer. While you could not stand the 5th series I found I could not stand some of russell t davies stuff. . Infact there is one episode in david tennants era I thought was the worst story in Doctor Who history Love and Monsters Yuck.
One thing we do agree upon was that the Vincent Van Gough episode was Excellent and I am pleased you
are not one of those people who stopped watching simply because David Tennant wasn't in the show.

OMG IS THAT THE ONE WITH THE CONCRETE GIRL? IF SO I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU O.O The only good thing about that episode was that David Tennant was in it. It was SO bad.

Yup thats the one. Out of all the episodes I have ever seen, old and new who, this is the worst story I have
ever seen.

KatieHal

I saw part of that on TV once, and then when I was watching the series on DVD, skipped it because it looked so lame.

For some reason I don't seem to remember this concrete girl ep you are talk about. You say it's a David Tennant one. Hmmm.... thinking... thinking... aha... em.. no. Which companion was in it.

In any case I'm looking forward to seeing the Doctor and his daughter dynamic when they eventually meet up again. And how she will initially react to his new form. It would be interesting to learn about all her adventures in space.

Arkillian

I really hope that wasn't just a spoiler then that I should get if I think about it... T.T

The concrete girl is an episode with a creature that absorbed humans and when it did, their faces appeared on it and they were crying in pain. One couple had this really lovely romance happening and by the time they FINALLY hooked up, the creature absorbed the girl. The Doctor faught the creature, and it died, turning into a pile of goo, absorbing into the earth. The Doctor and his universal Deus ex MAchina sonic screwdriver soniced the ground, and forced up the 'last absorbed person' into the concrete. They proceeded to cut out the area of concrete, and the guy proudly displayed his girlfriend- the slab of concrete. Everyone lived happily ever after.

The end.

Oh- except with the parting comment of how the girl and guy have a love life still. Her being a slab of concrete with a morpheus face and him being flesh, and you the viewer having mental images of a man and a slab of concrete....

D:

It is REALLY bad. It stopped me from watching any more of Tennant actually. I'll watch the rest some day eventually, but for now, I'm still recoving from the trauma.

The awesome episodes of Tennants run were written by the guy that does the current Doctor's stuff- the Angels, the children of the Dammed, and I believe the girl in the fire was too. All excellent episodes :) My friend didn't show me much of Tennant's run though. She doesn't like him much :/ IF there's any episodes I should consider, I'll watch them, but I'm not watching that one again. Love and Monsters almost made that Doctor a deal breaker after watching alot of REALLY good episodes of him :(

drunkenmonkey

Yeah the Absorbalof one. The doctor was hardly in that, It was shot separately from Tennant's main eps. It was like the first weeping Angels episode where the Doctor only cameos.

KatieHal

LOVE the Doctor's Daughter. Fun fact, David Tennant is (or at least, was!) dating the actress who played Jenny in that episode (who is Steven Moffat's daughter).

Actually, they're getting married.

You're getting confused. Georgia Moffett is Peter Davison's daughter (his real last name is Moffett - he isn't related to Moffat).

Yeah I was going to bring that up also.

KatieHal

Huh. I could swear I'd read somewhere she was related to Moffat the now-showrunner.

In any case, hey, good for them!

It was on the Doctor Who confidential for that Episode that she is the actual Daughter of a previous Doctor. I'm told that the confidentials - if you want to call them that - are severely shortened on the DVDs.

Don't expect to see the Doctors Daughter Rose martha etc  now that moffett has taken over.
When Steven Moffett took over he said that he didn't like Rose or the direction Rusell T Davies was taking the show. Although there is a rumor that Captain Jack might make an appearance.

I hope Captain Jack comes back! I liked him :) I'd be fine if Rose or Martha didn't come back. Rose was ok, but Amy is SO much better IMHO. I'd be sad if Jack didn't come back, but I wouldn't lose sleep. I donno. I guess I just didn't like the dynamics Rose and Martha introduced. I don't like to think of the Doctor having romantic interests. It makes him too human to me. I like him being crazy and fun :) Maybe angery and emo. Not lovey dovey.

LadyTerra

Another fun fact, Georgia Moffett's mother played Trillian in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy mini-series, written by Douglas Adams, who was a writer on Doctor Who in the 80s.

That would make a really awesome crossover...

I agree with everything you said tennant and ecclestons doctors were both too romantically involved. Blame that
on russell t davies although now to mention it these two doctors were not the first. Paul mcgann who played
the eighth doctor in the 1996 tv movie showed a slight interest.

Hey I did not know this.

What do you guys think of the series 5 opening? I know a lot of people don't like it  because of the slight change of music at the beginning, but I actually Love it and I like all the lighting effects. I would prefer that than seeing the tardis swirling in the vortex in series 1 - 4 opening that makes me dizzy.

KatieHal

I don't mind the hints of romance, but they went a little overboard with them. I never really bought into Martha's crush on him, and it seemed unnecessary to have her have one.

And... cut for later-seasons spoilers....
I was fine with the season 2 ending for Rose. Tragic, yet not, and the unspoken love between them, denied forever...it was great.

Except that "parted forever" = not so much! Her season 4 ending was SO LAME. One, that she came back at all. Terrible. Two, that she got a hand-me-down Doctor whom she apparently was totally cool just transferring her feelings onto? Also lame!! I wish they'd left Rose in her cut off universe and left it at that. It was a much better ending. Oh and I also disliked her getting tagged on YET AGAIN when the 10th Doctor was making his goodbye rounds (that lasted a conspicuously long time).
