Chat Room

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but how likely would it be for the site to have a chat room that TSL fans can go to, to chill out and unwind and to talk about the games. I know, this would be a place that I'd go to and talk to new friends. Maybe we could login with our forum names and obviously there would be chat moderators frequenting. I hope you find this as good an idea as I do.

Apparently TSL used to have a chat room, but it got kinda wild and out of control.  I'd love one too. :)

Not sure how you mean. :-\  After two successful eps. the fans are sure to behave now, though. No more negativity, this is a great place to be. :)

Haids1987

I don't mean it was vulgar or anything, I mean that it was just kinda crazy and hard to keep track of.

Check out a few old chat logs:

I see, yeah it's just a matter of laying down some rules about spamming. But I've never seen a chat room that isn't like that, just a little. ;D We'll have important things to talk about now.

Haids1987

For sheez! :)  Moooooooods, are you listening?

I would love this! :D There was only one chat event since I've been here, not long after I started posting, and I couldn't get in due to technical reasons. :(

The chat room used to be open every weekend, as long as there were enough mods\admins to keep an eye on things. At some point though, I think everyone was just too busy to keep an eye on things for the whole weekend, and it was just neglected.

The crazyness was kind of encouraged though. :P At the end of every chat session, we'd have kicking parties where the admins give everyone temporary mod powers and everyone starts kicking everyone else out of the chatroom. XD

That actually kinda explains some stuff... XD

Jafar

Yep. Of course, there were some chats on more formal occasions, where we couldn't be all chaotic. I remember Ken Williams showing up, and the fans got to take turns asking a few questions about the game. I'll have to look that one up...

I remember that one! Well, reading it long afterward anyways. :P Still really cool though! :D

Here's the Ken one.

Jafar

Ah, yeah, that one. :P

That was very structured and orderly, so the chatroom isn't totally untameable... :P

With all the traffic here these days though, it might be harder to moderate the chatroom.
Still, I'd love to see it come back someday.

That's probably what went wrong with the old chat. Do we specifically need at least one mod in there at all times. And not just open for the weekend, always opened and the TSL team can come in just to chat whenever, and not be obliged to moderate.  I don't know, can we put it to a poll or something.

Haids1987

Or the mods can give a selected few of us "temporary mod powers" and we can keep an eye on each other. ;)

Bad idea, I think. :D Being kicked out from a room for the hell of it doesn't sound like my idea of a good time. Chat parties may be fine for the weekends, but what I'm looking for it a place to chill out and wind down with a few friends. :)

Jafar

Well, it only happened when the chatroom was closing anyway. The chats were more sane during open hours; the kicking party was just kind of a silly tradition. :P

Also, looking back through some old posts, I was half right about why the chatroom stopped opening. The mods were too busy to always show up, and also there hadn't been a lot of people going to the chat recently, so they figured there was no point to keep on holding chatroom sessions regularly.

how about we just make an unofficial one?
#silverlining in irc.freenode.net.

If some other people agree I will make it.

 I like the idea.

By what means would one connect to the IRC channel? (I know of IRC but not its specifics.)

If atec were to set aup a channel with the info he produced, just replace "irc.aniverse.net" with "irc.freenode.net" and "#MAHQ" with "#silverlining".
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!
