Even when we were still going to the church, I don't think we ever had any meatless Fridays. Sure, there were Fridays when we had fish instead of meat, but that was not because we were Catholic, and didn't happen every Friday. Besides, there's few fish species I like eating. :S

I'm a meatitarian...so I'll be having some form of meat today.

I already had some pork at lunch!  Pepperoni Pizza!  Mmmm...

(Although I was lacking the person I'm supposed to have a Pepperoni Pizza date with. :( )

And I think I'll have some chicken tonight.

I don't think I've ever eaten meat even once on a Friday during Lent.  Well, I'll go on eating my fish then. :P Enjoy your meat...lol

Actually, I have up meat for Lent. So I haven't eaten a piece of meat in over a month.

J-ROC

I don't think I could ever not eat meat....I mean yeah, I've had vegitarian meals and such....but man, dead cow...I loves it!

Errr... I'm assuming that fish!=meat is a religious thing? Because I would consider fish to be meat. Not that I think eating fish instead of, say, beef is a bad thing (in fact, I think it's a good thing), I'm just a little puzzled how it would qualify as "not eating meat".

At any rate... I'm now agnostic (I used to be Catholic), so Lent is now a pretty much non-important thing to me. I never saw much point in causing yourself harm by choosing to give something up that you enjoy but is not harming you... but then, that's part of the reason I was never good at being religious and finally gave it up. ;)

I'm not a big meat person anyways... I like chicken, but I generally stick to just breads, dairy, veggies, and fruit.

The point of it is supposed to be that Jesus didn't eat meat for the 40 days he was in the desert being tempted by the devil.  So that's why you give up something you love for Lent. To resist temptation.  There may be no social reward from it, but it's spiritually fulfilling.

Down with the devil! :D ;)

Jeysie

Ahh. OK, I can understand that. I don't have any particular desire to follow it, but it makes sense to me. :)

I guess when you're brought up always following Lent, it doesn't become that hard of a thing to do.  Except meat has been hard to give up this year.  But the cravings are going away for chicken. Which is good. :D I don't eat red meat to begin with, so it's just been giving up chicken that's been hard. lol

Mary Jane

I'll remember to keep you and your meatlessness in my prayers.

Now you're all really going to believe that I'm crazy for this. lol I plan on becoming a vegetarian once I get out of the house. (my parents don't approve, they think I'll die from malnutrition. :P)

Jeysie

I don't not follow Lent because I think it's hard to do, just that, as I said, I don't have any desire to give something up that's not harming me. I'm not knocking people who do follow Lent, though... if your beliefs are fulfilling to you, that's all that matters. :) Especially if following Lent does cause you to give up something potentially harmful (like red meat), then it's very much a good thing.

And vegetarians do have to be sure to get enough protein, but with all the tofu and soy products out there nowadays, it's not a big deal. Properly chosen and prepared fruits and veggies are great for vitamins and fiber, so no malnutrition involved.

Try telling my parents that. lol  They don't think I get enough fruit and vegetables. Except in the past few years I've been discovering more and more foods that I love.  I'm not entirely sure what it was, but I think I fell in love with spinach on Tuesday. :D  I don't know what the name of the food was (it was almost like a thin pastie), but it was the most delicious thing I've ever eaten! :D

Now I'm kind of confused. I mean... if you become a vegetarian, you'll be eating mostly fruits and vegetables... won't that make them happy, then, if they don't think you eat enough of them?

*shivers* I dont like fish... Anything that swims, crawls, or burrows, in my opinion, should not be swallowed and digested...  ::)
