Oh...lol The 'itas' aren't pronounced the same. There's more of a stress on ita in Lolita.  And the ita in spanakopita just comes with the flow of the world.

Well, I'm not Catholic, I'm Southern Baptist...I participatedin Lent for the first time about four years ago, and then again last year.  It was so difficult for me, at least at the beginning to say no to the things I gave up, but by about half-way through, it wasn't difficult at all.  I guess part of it is just giving up the habit of it!

It really isn't in the bible at all though, and I heard originally it was an excuse for fishermen to get more money during Lent.

The Catholic church moved a lot of holidays to coincide with the old heathen holidays. However, Thanksgiving isn't even a Catholic holiday, at least not worldwide. Maybe the US Catholics adopted it, but the European ones didn't.
