Is it just me or is SOMEONE a Star Trek fan in the second episode? I saw a couple of TNG references.... maybe a coincidence? I dunno ;)

It is not a good day to die!

I'm assuming that's a Trek reference, but I was never sure.

<---- Not a Star Trek fan. That's actually a reference to Flatliners. :)

You're not? :o

I'd bet there are a bunch of other people who took it as a Trek reference, though. :P

I don't dislike it. I just never followed it. The big Trekkie among the directors is Rich.

I've never even heard of Flatliners.

"It's a good day to die," is a VERY well-known Star Trek phrase from Worf and the Klingons.  I guarantee you that 95% of the people that hear it (and recognize it as a reference to something) are going to immediately think of Star Trek.  Not that it matters.  ;)

Star Trek rules.  May the saga live long and prosper  ;D

I had heard of Flatliners, but I haven't seen it. Oddly enough, a Google search for "a good day to die" didn't immediately turn up anything about either. Apparently, it's not as popular a phrase as I would have thought.

The famous phrase is "Today is a good day to die". The movie opens with Kiefer Sutherland saying that. The movie is a about a bunch of students who play with death, and die for seconds to be later resurrected. I remember it being an excellent movie.

It's a very well known line from Star Trek.  The Klingons say it all the time when going into battle.  The interesting thing is that Flatliners was done in 1990.  I'm not sure when the Klingons first said it on Star Trek, but it would have been on Next Generation, which started in 1988, I believe.  And the episode revealing the Klingons as a warrior race was in season one, though I don't know if they used that line in the episode.  It's quite possible that they did though.  So it's entirely possible that Flatliners was referencing Star Trek.

And just to complicate things, apparently that line was something that Crazy Horse said going into battle.  So Star Trek likely referenced that with the Klingons, and Flatliners may have been referencing Star Trek, and you referenced Flatliners.  My head hurts.

Cez, I think you got that wrong. I'M the big trekkie on the team. I own 23 seasons of it on DVD, plus a number of books AND various iPhone apps (including the Klingon Language Suite). Then again, I'm not a director... That being said, if you want to put in some trek references in future episodes, just come to me. I got em, and I know where to get them. And by the way, there are four lights!

So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

Four lights... NICE :) Cez... once flatliners steals this phrase..... maybe we could... NAH....

Seriously though. I thought "Today is a good day to die" was original trek..... Google it... Crazy Horse? We're all wrong.

It's a Jollo's line. "I'm just a clown, not a miracle worker". I didn't write that line. I don't actually remember who did.

Well, if you didn't, it's pretty like that I did. :) I wouldn't call myself a Trekkie, but I'm familiar enough with the series and the tropes and the famous lines.
