That Cain Velasquez/Brock Lesnar fight was awesome.  I was pretty sure Cain would win.
I know the dos santos match up will be a good fight as well. Anyone else see it?

I'm also looking forward to a Machida comeback.

Post anything MMA or martial arts here.  It's a far cry from King's Quest, but really cool stuff.  Any martial artists here? Done some Karate/BJJ/Judo myself.

A friend of mine hosts UFC nights for the big fights, so I did indeed see this last weekend's fight. I was shocked at how the Lesnar fight went! Just, damn! Also I was shocked at how, well...normal and well-spoken Lesnar was once I heard him talk.

Myself, I've been taking American Jiu Jitsu for almost 6 years--sometime in the late spring/early summer I'll be going for my first degree black belt. :) Which is both awesome and scary!

Yes but I'm currently taking a semester abroad and don't really get the chance to follow it since September.

It is very entertaining but I really hate all the pre-match talk.

I liked the pre-game talk we made up much better. Like how we kept talking up Lesnar to ridiculous levels--saying that he could pound his chest and that sword tattoo became a real sword, that his tattoo of a unicorn skull from one that he killed and ate, etc...  ;D

Is he related to Chuck Norris?

I'm pretty sure he devoured Chuck Norris and gained his strength.

Below, Brock Lesnar, for those who haven't seen him!

Ha. I was shocked that Lesnar got rocked, but that's the name of the game. His previous fights he's always rocked them...which means it's probably high time he got his butt kicked so it falls in line. No one stays on top forever...and I loved the Tito fight...I'm not a big Tito fan anyway...too cocky for his own good...

American Jiu Jitsu?  Is that mostly wristlocks and standing techniques?

I was shocked at the Lesnar fight. With Cain winning, maybe they will have UFC in Mexico city.  There are some great Mexican boxers from what I hear, be interesting to see them in the ring.  And Tito... Well, I have heard him trash talk quite a bit. I will find the link, but in an interview he compares himself to George Saint Pierre and says he would like to take a shot at Anderson Silva.  Now THAT takes a lot of cockiness to say.  I would love to see a GSP and Anderson Silva fight. But you know what? Anderson Silva is 3x as cocky as Tito.  When he wins, he plays that little air guitar and shakes his hips.  Dana almost booted him for his antics. But he is a great fighter. He gets cocky and fights with his hands down.

American Jiu Jitsu?  Is that mostly wristlocks and standing techniques?

It boils down to self defense focused techniques--we learn all kinds of stuff from ground fighting to judo to aikido and so forth. This is the website for the dojo I go to, and a quote from the site to describe our style.

"Our school focuses on a modern, non-traditional form of martial art called American Jiu Jitsu. Our defensive techniques are meant to stop an attacker in the most efficient way possible. Anyone can perform our techniques regardless of size and strength. Jiu Jitsu teaches the fighting science behind striking, throwing (Judo and Aikido), weapon defenses, multiple attack scenarios and ground assaults."

Looks cool. Judo workouts are killer.  I checked this site, looks like you get taught a lot of different things.  I agree that to be effective in real life combat its beneficial to know as much as possible.  My introduction to ground fighting taught me this well.  Good luck on your black belt test! That's quite an achievement.

KatieHal

Oh yeah--it's quite a variety! But really interesting, and definitely a good workout.

Thanks! I'm both excited and nervous for it...glad it's still a number of months off yet!

Cool! I actually have two black-belt friends, so I can appreciate the amount of skill that it takes to get that far.

I never imagined that I'd see the human equivalent of an ogre.  I guess life never ceases to amaze you with its sights.  He looks as if he was raised by a pack of gorillas.

You think a gorilla could love that? :P

Sure, he could be a nice person.  But he's definitely scary looking.  You can't argue that.
