So, I saw Tron: Legacy today in IMAX, and my response?  :o absolutely amazing. I saw the first one last night, and frankly, I'm much more into the new one. I loved every single micro-second of it! And now I've got to see it like three hundred more times. Seriously, I'm salivating more. The reviews among the press are apparently mixed, but I loved it. Has anyone else seen it yet? If so, what are your opinions on the movie? Did Disney do a good job doing a sequel to a nearly 30 year old movie? Or did they just derez the franchise for good?

I've been waiting for it to come out for the last 1.5 years XD I've seen all the teaser trailers. I'm seeing it on IMAX 3D tonight, and tomorrow also XD I know I'm gonna love it. The original TRON REALLY needed to wait for technology to catch up. It could've been SO much more with actually technology in it. I'm SURE I'm gonna be floored when I watch it tonight <3

Based on what you just wrote, you'll be refusing to leave the theater. I LOVED IT!!!!! And I literally just saw the first movie last night. My friend and I plan on re-watching the first movie, but recording our comments as we go along. Here's a sample: FRISSSBEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! Because really, that's what the original identity discs were. The new ones are SO MUCH COOLER! Trust me, you'll be stunned. I'd say 3D-Wise Tron: Legacy beats Avatar by a long shot. I mean, the whole thing is a visual effects powerhouse. And it WORKS! Now if only Disney would move their butts on Tron 3. And yes, it's been confirmed that a 3rd movie is planned, so long as Legacy does well. I think it will. And there is certainly room for a sequel, but I'm not even going to put anything in spoiler tags. I'm gonna wait to post anything about the ending other than the fact that it was EPIC!

The first movie wasn't good, but it wasn't bad. It was just weird. In theory, it was great. But today's technology does the idea so much more justice.

*froths at mouth* OH YES.

Yeah- by the trailers, it had such clean vivid lines the the original just couldn't reproduce. And some of the effects. They had to dumb down alot of effects to make it awesome. It can't compare to CG. Rewatching it to me, I see what it COULD have been, not what it wasn't. It's meant to be a very visual movie. If it's better than Avatar then oh f@#$. I may need a bucket O.O

I take it your excited to see it...

I love the IMAX theater near me though. It's one of the two Jordan's Furniture IMAX theaters. The one's with custom made tempur-pedic seats and "butt-kickers", sound amplifiers in every seat. You literally feel the movie. I mean, my Coke was rattling during half the movie. Of all the movies I've seen at that theater (and I've seen a lot) Tron: Legacy is by far the one that makes me coke shake the most. I approve. Oh, and the soundtrack by Daft Punk is amazing. Like, for the first time ever, I actually want to buy a soundtrack. Never happened to me before...

I have been extremely excited for Tron since the teaser was released a while ago. I plan to see it multiple times.

As you should. And just so everyone may know the awesomeness that is Tron: Legacy, I present thee with the trailers... In link form only. I'm still trying to figure out how to embed YouTube videos on the forum, if it's even possible... If it is, I'd love for someone to tell me how... Just note that almost 99.9 percent of the footage in the comic-con preview does not appear in the film. At all, in any way, shape or form. I think it was shot specifically for comic-con, but I have no idea... In any event, here are the trailers for you to enjoy, as well as a preview of the Daft Punk soundtrack. Simply mind blowing!

I'm probably gonna go bankrupt seeing this movie so many times, and in IMAX no less. There's simply no other way to experience this movie... If you ask me, this movie should be a permanent staple for IMAX. I mean, have it on Blu-Ray and stuff, but if you wanna see the movie the way it was meant to be seen, see it in IMAX. It really shows what IMAX is capable of. And it's a lot.

And maybe it's just me, but I seriously love Jeff Bridges' voice. Like, I think he needs to narrate more movie trailers. But maybe that's just me...

Just seen it... I had a VERY mixed opinion on it.

Firstly- IT IS SO PRETTY

OMG yes. Like, it was the TSL to the King's Quest. I was wowed out the whole movie.

BUT

There's a few sad things for me. They're spoilers- sorry.
No Tron / Flynn bromance. I wanted to see that SO bad- to see those two tag teaming it. The first Tron had it. I really missed it with Tron being the bad guy most of the movie :( He didn't even turn good i an epic way T.T

No closure. There better be a Tron 3, cause damn, if there isn't, I'll actually dislike the movie. The end of the movie was an anticlimatical version of the original :( The original had Flynn saving the world, this one ended up getting erased, along with his father. If Tron 3 comes out and Tron and his father get saved, I'll acknowledge it as a trilogy.
A few REALLY cool things that WEREN'T CG effects though!!
Flynn/ Flynn- The best. Flynns's dad is COOL. Period

How Starwars this movie was. OH MY GOSH- you can totally translate every main character into a Starwars one.Even the ships were Starwarsy- Infact, if Starwars was based in a digital universe, it would be TRON! XD

They did the user versus program thing alot better.

ISOs= love. There were a few very Matrixy things. This and the pimp guy were them ;)

I love that there was more disc action!!
Conclusion, I'll be TOTALLY keen on seeing a Tron 3 to wrap this all up. If they do, then to me it'll be the best movie of 2010. Period. Right now, my favourites are all tied up with Scott Pilgrim, Inception and Avatar.

And lol- "You're messing with my Zen thing, man."

OK- extra cool things, the actors that originally play Tron and Flynn (senior) are the same actors in the modern film which I TOTALLY called while in the theater and was correct (Thanks IMDB) and
That thing with Tron not having enough air time, as Tron he didn't, but Alan Bradley, Tron's creator gets some good air time. I just wish that there was some Flynn / Tron bromance. That would've made the movie for me in an epic way...
dark-daventry

Well Disney did mention that a third movie was in the works, provided this one does Well.
did the world actually get deleted though? I thought it was just a big flash of light... and we don't actually see what happened to tron. He was in the water, yes, but we don't see anything more than that.
Well, I suppose the only way to figure these things out is to see it again!

Yeah T.T They left it SO open ended for a third movie. I kinda wish they had wrapped it up a little better. Still though, I was pleased.

Oh- and I've figured out which star wars characters the main cast are- wanna hear? :D

Yes, I do! Please share! Oh, And I will say one thing: those lightsaber like things are obviously a stab at star wars...

Lets see...
Kevin Flynn (Senior)- Obi Wan Kenobi (Lol- Zen master + robes + many other references XD )
Clu- Anakin Skywalker (Cause he reminds me of Dark Ani- so misguided :) )
Sam Flynn- Luke Skywalker (Cause he's such a hero XD )
Quorra- Leia (Not cause she's a chick- I swear. Same friggin mould those two!)
Tron- OK, I reserve Han Solo for Tron in hope that Tron 3 actually has him being a hero, till then, he's Darth Vader cause he's TOTALLY the tragic bad guy that has his 'Luke- I am your father' moment without the words XD
Jarvis- Dude is creepy. He's Darth Maul for sure
Gem- She I can't pick cause there isn't many chicks in the Starwars universe.  If I was to pick anyone however regardless of gender, it'd actually be Darth Sidious / Palpatine. Frigging double crossing b******. You had to see it coming though.
Zuse- Dude is a PIMP. He's so Jabba the Hutt
Yeah- we saw the light sabers coming though, right? Everyone uses them now days. The plot was very Starwars too. The quadbike racing, and the vehicles are all what I'd imagine a computer world version of Starwars to look like too XD See, Starwars have weird as vehicles too! Storm troopers and the Tron armies have uniform armour with biker helmets too. IT's just so... similar XD I dig the disco pimp scene too. That's probably Starwars at some point, but I pin that one to Matrix.

What's REALLY funny is that I'm doign a Starwars RP with my two friends that were watching the movie, and we all burst into laughter when we heard the ship's name- Light rider. That's the name of the ship we ride in in our Starwars campain XD Lol.

Just got back from seeing it - really liked it! :D Course, I remembered pretty much nothing from the first one, so it was like I'd never even seen it, and I'd like to watch this one again once I've rewatched the first.

This is a truly phenomenal film. Numerous reviews call the film visually exceptional, but mediocre otherwise; however; I found the story to be uniquely though-provoking. Daft Punk's soundtrack added an additional layer of slickness and polish to an already beautifully produced film.

The storyline was a bit mediocre though when you get over how pretty it is. IT's not going to be remembered for it's plot at all to be honest which is a shame. It's looking like its a 2 part storyline though. I'm hoping that part 2 will make up for what part 1 didn't cover.

waltzdancing

Is it as bad as Avatar, plot wise I mean? (Sorry if you liked the film. Please don't harm me)

Arkillian

Avatar wasn't a bad plot- and neither was Tron. They were just a little more on the vanilla side. That's cool though, cause sometimes you don't want the focus to be the plot. In Avatar's case, the focus was the world and the characters and the culture. For Tron, it was similar, but I think also they slowed the plot down caus they had 1.5 movies worth of plot and couldn't shove it into 1.

Count yourself lucky that it wasn't a plot like Serenity. That movie ruined Firefly for me, cause they didn't alowe for a gradual character expansion. IT was Sudden. In your face, and I went Cool! WAIT THAT CHARACTER DIED and THAT GUY IS CRITICALLY INJURED AND... AND D:

I'd rather a slow plot than a fast one.

KatieHal

Saw Tron and enjoyed it :) It was a fun movie! Better plot than Avatar, IMO. Which I'd actually argue didn't have much character development at all--the hero was the hero because...um...because he was the hero. They lingered on the visuals, which were stunning, absolutely, but the plot was very cookie-cutter and predictable. (Again, IMO)

Gasp! Speaking ill of Serenity?! Nooo!! Ahem. Suffice to say I disagree, and also will point out that it's almost impossible to get the same slow character development in a two hour movie as a 14-episode series.

Don't get me wrong- I love Firefly! I didn't like having a season worth of plot shoved in my face though. It was a last ditch effort to wrap up a story the deserved another season where lesser series got flogged to death. IT's the saddest thing ever really :/
