Saw it yesterday in Disney Real3D or whatever.  not imax, but.....

IT WAS AMAZING! I didn't really know  about the old tron stuff or even that this was a sequel until my friend mentioned it after the movie was over.  The 3d and special effects were epic and the storyline was really good.  I am gonna watch it again probably next week. (Not in 3d though)

My family and I saw it last night for our traditional Christmas Eve movie.  Eh, I wasn't a fan.  Granted, I don't think I ever saw the original Tron (and if I did I was far too young to remember it [though I DO remember the People Mover at Disneyland having a Tron sequence in it, where you're inside the digital world]), so I had no grounds for comparison.

It had lots of promise.  The special effects were mindblowing, and the music was beyond epic.  Plus the fact that they stuck to the cheesy lighted up spacesuit thingies was a sweetly loyal touch!  The characters were cool, (Sam was a total badass), and the disc-throwing action was freaking incredible.  I imagine that it was much better improved upon compared to the original.

But the storyline...gah, I just didn't like it.  I thought it was long and drawn out, and got more boring as the movie went on.  I found myself thinking about things other than the movie as I was supposed to be watching it ("Okay, I made up the cookie plate for Maxine and her family, so that's done...maybe I should wrap Travis' presents as two seperate items...the Charlie Brown Christmas DVD is on the bookcase, so we have it ready later tonight...oh, aren't I supposed to be watching this $11.50 piece of garbage?")

I don't know, it just wasn't my favorite.  I can't say it wasn't my type of movie, because that's not true (Star Wars chica here! *Raises hand*), but something about this movie and I didn't mesh well.  I know there are a lot of loyalists out there, so I apologize to you guys, but I most definitely wouldn't watch this movie again, even for free.

It's ok. I'm a die hard Tron fan and I found it vanilla too. It's certinly pretty, but in the middle where the action stopped being actioning and it was all exposition, I think they could've dealt with that better.

Also, it may not've been your thing. IT's quite different to Starwars despite how similar the plot layout is. I think modern movies tend to be waterdown and prettied up versions of what they should be :/

dark-daventry

I agree with Doon and Katie's posts. I LOVED Tron Legacy. I also LOVED Serenity. And be happy that Serenity was even made. If the fans hadn't been vocal enough, the movie would never have been made, and I'm thankful it was. I'll take a rushed conclusion to an epic and amazing series to no conclusion whatsoever.

I'll be seeing Tron over and over again for sure! I've seen it twice now, and it's still good to me! Perhaps us young ones will enjoy it more...

I just watched the original 1982 Tron. The visuals and animation were quite good (considering the historical context), but the plot and general mechanics of the digital frontier were not well explained. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it and what it contributed in backstory to Tron.

Please don't morph the meaning of what I'm saying- I'm not saying I hated it. I really liked Tron! There's a good chance that I'll be seeing it for a 3rd time with one of my town friends! A vanilla plot isn't always a bad thing. t just wasn't a memorable plot. And I didn't hate Serenity- I was just disappointed that it couldn't be stretched into a whole season. I wish the fan's voice was strong enough to make another season of it instead.

Please- I don't want everyone announcing that they loved Serenity in spite of my post. I used it as an example of a plot that didn't work like it could've. I know ALOT of Fire fly fans that agree with me that it was too fast, but they were glad it was concluded also.

The original Tron brushed over alot of details cause they weren't so tech savy back then. The 1980s crowd wasn't as interested in the technicalities as the modern crowd is though. Alot of the older crowd have more fun working it out for themselves. IT was all meant to be mad science, so explanation was unnecessary :) A hair brain theory that shouldn't have been possible, when in reality, it's now days a hell of alot more plausible than it ever was O.O I mean, in 20 years time, could we do what Tron is doing?

It's funny when you look at future projections of Earth in old films and how we should be now. 20 years is a long time for science. If you look at the technology progress in that time, there is no way they could foresee that things could be like they are now!

According to Back to the Future, we should already have hoverboards and flying cars!

Oh man- I wish T.T

1985 surmised  that the world would be under military law, and people would be able to read people's thoughts 25 years ago. That didn't happen luckily O.O Thought police are pretty freaky.

Actually, we are progressing into new digital frontiers. Like holograms. A college posted a series of YouTube videos of an actual 3D hologram video. It's in black and white and nowhere near commercial production, but they were able to make a video feed from an actual 3 dimensional hologram. I think they did it by having two mirrors in a chamber spinning really fast or something... I'm a bit fuzzy on the details. The point is, we actually already have some of the stuff you think we don't. And also remember that japan has a lot of new technology commercially available you wouldn't even dream of here. They had electronic vending machines in public way before the US did. And the u.s. Government doesn't disclose everything they have either. Heres a factual example: the Internet was actually created in the 60's. It wasn't until bush senior came to power that it became commercially available in the late 80's or early 90's. I'm sure the government has things they won't talk about that will blow our tech out of the water.

But im getting way too off-topic...

I saw tron a third time now... The ending is still epic after 3 times. Although I got to the theater late and had to sit really close to the screen, and I missed the first like ten minutes. Not a big deal for me as ive seen it twice beforehand, but my friend was seeing it for the first time with me, and I had to fill her in on all the details she missed.

Yeah, I watch Alice in wonderland on the far right of the cinema. Not cool when it's 3D :( the 3D trips me out in the best of times cause of my eyesight let alone on an angle. Up the front is just as bad.

Nothing can beat the time I had to see stewart little 2 in the very front row in a non-stadium configuration. I swear, my neck was bent for the next week afterwards. They should have a health warning about that! But I've also seen people sit up front in a deserted movie theater. I can't for the life of me figure out what possessed them to sit up front of their own accord. I know of no one personally who would do such a thing. I even know a few people who would simply walk out if they had to sit up front.

They get the movie first though- and it's BIGGER ^^;

dark-daventry

I don't know what you mean by "they see it first"... I mean, everyone in the theater is seeing it at the exact same time... As for seeing it bigger, while that's true, I'd rather see something from a little farther away. I like seeing things on big screens, but I draw the line when I have to move in close in order to make it bigger.

HAHAH! It's a joke, DD. They see the light rays of the film first, but it's travelling 'at the speed of light' so a few meters don't matter anyways ;) There's also luxury for kids with the front cause the parents want to be at the back :)

As much as I disliked this movie, I find myself Youtubing the music.  A lot.  It's really epic and fun.  I'm actually listening to it right now.
