the soundtrack made me start listening to daft punk again. (I stopped for no particular reason, i just listen to so much :P )

lol I got the free song from itunes, I just haven't caved in and got the other payed songs. I most likely will though. I got lots of money stored in my itunes account. I get gift-cards to itunes and never use them because I don't listen to music much. The stuff I do listen to, I can listen easily from youtube, or I can get for so much cheaper at my local Newbury Comics (which for those that don't know, is the single best store ever invented by man. I'm not even kidding).

the whole soundtrack and a lot of their other stuff is good.  I am a big fan of house. (the genre)

If I buy music, I buy the cds cheap at amazon or something.  I want to get a good vinyl record player though, because the uncompressed sound is so amazing especially on some of my favorite albums that suffer from compression on cds...
normally i just steal my music.
you should get the rest of the soundtrack, it's all good stuff.

You know, I never really listened to albums (I'm a little young anyway. I wasn't really alive back when they were big. When I was growing up, it was all about CASSETTES!) but the audio quality of an MP3 is fine for me. I don't see why people really need super high quality audio. I mean, yes, high quality audio is important, but MP3 provides me that quality most of the time.

Gah!  Here I am again. ::)

For some reason, although I initially didn't like this movie, something about it keeps nagging at me.  It has been on my mind since I saw it on Christmas Eve!  I keep finding myself Googling it, watching youtube videos, and researching it.  It must have had more of an impact on me than I realized!

So here's the thing: I actually really REALLY want to see it again. :o I looked up a lot of things that bothered me, or things that I thought were boring, and I realized that there are lots of references to the original Tron (which I haven't seen yet.)  I mean, I didn't really "peel the onion," so to speak.  I kinda just took it at face value and left it at that.  But the more I think about it, it was full of religious undertones.  Why didn't I realize that?!

Now that I understand things a bit better, I have a newfound respect for it.  It was a lot better than I realized, and I would really like to give it another try.  I wonder if they're still playing it anywhere...

So am I forgiven for calling it "an $11.50 piece of garbage," and for saying that "I wouldn't watch it again, even for free?"

It felt very Starwars to me- so perhaps Buddist? Is that the religion you mean? IT is very similar to Starwars in so many ways <3

No haids. YOU ARE NEVER FORGIVEN! XD Of course you are, Haids. I could never stay mad at you.

And yes, it really does have a lot of religious themes in it. And I'm not even religious. The whole "creator" thing is obviously taken from the idea of God and the Bible.

I highly suggest you see it again, but after you've seen the original. Then your appreciation of it will be that much better. There's one reference at the beginning that will fly right over your head if you haven't seen the original.

Yeah, I had the feeling I was missing out on a lot of inside jokes from the original.  Is the 80's version available on DVD?  I might just buy it if it is.  Gotta love Amazon!

Well, there were definitely a lot of Buddhist themes in it (example: "You're kinda messing with my whole Zen thing, man!" ;)), but that wasn't exactly what I meant.  I meant the idea of Flynn being the "creator" and how he created the programs in his image.  How it was his universe, and one of his righthand men (CLU) turned against him and tried to be the Creator, but could never be.

But you're so right, Arkillian, it was incredibly Star-Warsy.

I'm definitely going to try and watch the original, and even try to see Legacy in theatres again.  I know I'll dig it more the second time. :)

Woah, this is seriously insightful. Now I'm off to think about parallels between Tron: Legacy and Paradise Lost.

Uggggghhhhhh.  I'm sorry to have reminded you of that 512-page disaster. :X

But thanks for saying so. :) I find Christian themes in everything, and the more reviews and such that I read about Tron: Legacy, the more I see it.  Now I'm kicking myself, wondering how I didn't notice it in the first place.

EDIT: Duuuuuuuuuuude, I found the whole 1982 movie on yourtube!  I guess I'll be watching it in the near future, then. :pleased:

(Probably tomorrow or the next night, though.  I'm fighting to stay awake as it is!)

Have you read it? It's an excellent piece of literature, imo, even if you disagree with its philosophy.

LOL, yeah, I read it my junior year of high school and hated most of it.  I've been a Christian my whole life, but that book was too much for me.  I just couldn't get into it, and I really, really tried.  It just wasn't my taste.

Sorry, Doon, I didn't mean to be harsh, because it really was an epic piece.  I mean, Milton was blind when he wrote a big chunk of it, and he really knew what he was talking about!  I just have bad memories of staying up until 2:30, fighting to keep my eyes open and struggling to focus on and be engaged in something I reeeeeaaaaaally didn't want to read.  I'm just bitter when it comes to Paradise Lost, I suppose.  I apologize! :)

Anyway, I accidentally started getting sucked into the original TRON.  I really and truly do have to go to bed now, but I got 15 minutes into the movie and I love it so far! ;D

I shall resume in the morrow. Good night, Questers!

I had similar struggles trying to read it as well. It's extremely archaic and arcane by modern standards, but the essence of the work is very powerful and timeless, as evidenced by the fact that we are now discussing it in a thread originally about a modern sci-fi movie.

Very true, and I'm sorry for being disrespectful.  Maybe one day I'll give it another chance, like how I'm now willing to try Tron again.  I might have grown into it, and now that I'm an adult (:X) and am more comfortable and knowledgeable about the Bible, I'll grasp its meaning better and not be so negative.

Love ya, Doon.

... if the fact that they call Kevin a god means that this is the ONLY reason that this is a Christian story, then you shouldn't watch the chronicles of Narnia, cause that whole movie is actual heavily christian basis. Singular gods is not an uncommon trait in religions outside of the Christian group of religions. I think you'll find that Tron parrallels asian beliefs FAR closer. Specially Kevin. He is VERY Confucius. The meditation, his house, his manner. VERY. The attitude of the world? Also. It's all about reincarnation cause of the reincarnation motif at the end of the movie. That's not Christian. If there is no TRON 3, then maybe you have an argument for Christianity in it, btu there's so many things I can point out that are Asian in origin. The thing is that it's a westernized Asian so it's hard to tell.

At the end of the day though, they may just be into asian films and was influenced by it, or made up something based on it's own religion cause well, it's it's own story- it doesn't need a base. Kevin IS the god of his world.  The writers of Tron Legacy wrote Lost as well so there's bound to be some philosophy in it, but try not to over think it. It's a story. Enjoy it :) It has pretty art and stuff <3

There are plans for a third Tron movie, btw. According to an article I read recently, the upcoming Blu-Ray release of Legacy will have a teaser for the third film. All I know is that I'm so buying that Blu-Ray. I may even buy a 3D capable TV just for this movie. I mean, it is a good movie in my opinion.

Being a very unreligious person, I'm the last person to talk about religious themes. I respect people's views and beliefs, but I don't necessarily believe the same thing. But I can certainly appreciate having religious undertones in a movie, especially if it enhances the entire thing. Like Tron. The whole idea of Flynn being "The Creator" was really powerful to me, and it really resonated well with religious themes to me. Again, I'm not a very religious person, so half the time I don't know what I'm talking about XD

I don't know Asian religions very well, so I really can't draw many parallels between Legacy and their culture.  I know Christianity, so the religious parallels I saw are clearly Christian, though I believe you when you say that there are more Asian religious references than Christian.  And of course the idea that Flynn was a god is most definitely not the only Christian motif I saw, that was just an example.  I could list more if you want, but I'd have to write an essay in order to get all my thoughts together. ;)

As for the Chronicles of Narnia--Arkillian, c'mon, it's me! :) Narnia is my absolute favorite book series, and I adore the movies.  My testimony as to how I really started embracing my Christianity actually really stems from reading the Chronicles.  (And I already DO have that written in a sort of essay form, so if you're interested...;))  I definitely can see the Christian parallels in those books/movies--have you been following the "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" thread at all? ;D
