KQ6 Enhanced and file viewing?

Hmm, does anyone know how to use Sciviewer or some similar file viewing program to access the material from KQ6 Enhanced? The character artwork, enhanced icons, etc?

Whenever I load up sci viewer on the cd-room I seem to only pull up the regular dos graphics.

I understand the hires artwork is kept in the files in the Actors folder, but I can't think of anything that can read those files. They are ".bin" files, but I can't seem to open them.
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

They're probably not a standard SCI format so SCI Viewer can't read them. I don't think a tool exists that can.

I have one of the SCI files and it's really nice. I wish I could get it to play, but it only audios on one emulator, and only visuals on the other. I can't get it to work right! I thought it was cause it was 256 colour, but my brother thinks the file is corrupted.

Me want KQ6 enhanced. Pretty please? I wish the one on gog was the enhanced version. Alas, tis only the standard one. I think I may have had the enhanced one at one time, but I'm not sure. If anyone can tell me where to obtain the enhanced version, I'd appreciate it.

And arkillian, this is probably a stupid question, but did you try DOSbox? The newest version works wonders for me.

There's a post on GOG that describes how to run the enhanced version of KQVI with the GOG's pack, so apparently it contains both versions. I haven't tried it, though.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

I'm having a hard time understanding those instructions... How do I create a sierra.ini? What is a sierra.ini first of all? Those directions should be dumbed down so idiots like me can understand them... XD

Ok, so I figured out how to create those files... But now I've run into another issue... Apparently they won't work on a 64 bit machine... There has to be some way to get them to work... Any suggestions? I'm going to try playing around with the settings and use what little computer knowledge I have...

Yup- totally. Tried it in Dos Box, straight, through Winamp, Media Player, Media Player Classic, and couldn't get Scummv to play the game at all :/ As I said, could be a corrupt file.

Oh, what exactly is KQVI Enhanced?  Is it the one with the high-res portraits?

KQ6 Enhanced is just the Windows version. Which works mighty fine in ScummVM without any effort at all.

But does it work on windows 7 64 bit? it works fine on 32 bit, but sadly i don't own a 32 bit computer. getting certain things to run on a 64 bit machine can be difficult, especially legacy games.

I thought so, but I was just checking.  I already have this version.

Actually, you need to buy it from gog. There's a whole series of steps you have to go through to get it to work correctly. If you buy the game from gog.com, you need to go into the files and do some editing. The directions to do so took a little while for me to get the hang of, but I figured it out eventually. Are you using a mac or a windows computer, arkilian? If you have access to a windows pc, it makes the process easier. If not, I don't actually know how to do it otherwise... I'm new to the mac operating system, so I'm getting the hang of it slowly but surely... I'll go ahead and copy and paste the directions from the gog forums.

QuoteGo to your "King's Quest 6" folder and create a new folder called "WIN". Create a "SIERRA.INI" in the "WIN" folder and paste this...
[info]
title = King's Quest VI
cursorview = TRUE
minhunk = 204K
minhires = 375K
audioBuffs = 2
synthtype=highsynth
genmidi=true
audpath=.\
audio=.\
sync= .\
movieplayer=0
Go back to your "King's Quest 6" folder and create a "King's Quest VI.bat" and paste this...
Sciwv.exe WIN\sierra.ini
Creating .bat and .ini files can be done in notepad or any text editor. The extension just has to be changed from .txt to .bat or .ini

Please also note that the enhanced version will not work on a 64 bit computer, or not that I can tell. I am going to continue doing some research into whether or not I can get it to work. For it to work on a mac, you need scummvm and winebottler. Once you have those, buy and download the KQ 4+5+6 pack from Gog.com and install it using winebottler (which is a windows emulator. there's no other way to get the files to install). Once you've done that, move the .win folder you created earlier into the KQ6 folder that should now be on your computer somewhere. I'm going to continue trying to do some experiments seeing if I can get the game to work on different systems. I'm really tempted to try it out on my hacked wii...

I hope this helps out.

Yep. I want to try doing the same thing with the disc collections, but I haven't yet had a chance to do so. Especially considering it's 2:37 AM in my timezone...

That's all unnecessary, aside from actually buying it. Just get the patch/installer from The Sierra Help Pages which fixes everything for you.

Also untrue. You can just run the game in ScummVM. Even if you have a 64-bit processor it will work. The 64-bit processor rule is only in regards to the original Windows executable which is 16-bit. ScummVM works on 64-bit Windows as well as any other platform it's ported to. Once you run Collector's installer/patch from SHP, all you have to do is add it into ScummVM and boom. You've got KQ6 enhanced working swimmingly on  a 64-bit Windows OS.
