A feeble wizard is no match for a well-trained knight in the physical department... he should stick to what he's good at  ;P

well, they were both knights and i guess evely matched with their physical powers, magic gave him the edge..... and guess what?.... it worked  :suffer:

lol, ok apo's made and accepted, and dew want's to get back on topic :o

Yep, I remember BASIC. I also remember not being all that great at it.  :-[

I do remember the old pasttime of going into computer stores and typing

10 PRINT "I AM A LOSER"
20 GOTO 10
RUN

c++?? ; ) hahaha... well all those languages look like each other ; ) at least the basics does...

How true.  What other programming languages do you know and like?

Also, Yonkey, how does a topic become a sticky topic?  Is this fair to other users that respond and their post starts out at number 4 or 5 instead of being number 1?

Yonkey

Heh, actually I was writing in C# but I guess it's the same syntax.   XD

I should have written it in VB code (to stick with the BASIC theme and all :P):

Do
    Console.WriteLine("I AM A LOSER")
Loop While True

Java, C/C++/C#, VB, PHP, ActionScript (Flash MX), SQL, JavaScript, I guess... heh, they're all pretty similar.  ;P

In this forum, the sticky topics are all official threads.  The whole point of them being sticky is that they get priority over the other topics.  ;D

I know you didnt ask me, but it is my department and whatever goes sticky, locked or related are discussed previously wheter they go or not, approved by me

Everyone starts at 1, so yes, it is fair

Programing? I used to work with HyperTalk (the programing language that they made Myst with)... but it was along time ago...

Right now I'm toying with learning C++...

Languages:
JAVA, C/C++, VB (ie. VBA, VB 6.0, VB.NET), ASP (not a real language, i know) Assembly (wew!! that one is fun!! ; ) ehh.... i think i'm forgetting something but I don't know what ; )

...I know some scripts too, but i don't consider them as languages, (javascript-> JAVA; VBscript->VB. the scripts are a bit different but not noticably)

ps. Yonkey, I didn't knew SQL was a programming languages, only thought it was used for making queries??

I know pretty much jack for actual programming languages. I might remember a smattering of BASIC, but that's it.

I do know the "language" of HTML and CSS pretty well, but I don't know what you'd call that. "Loser's Wanna-Be Programming", prolly. ;)

B'rrr

hahahaha....well HTML is a language ; ) ...but i don't consider it as a programming language though. it is more a language to 'make up' text ; ) webpages and such ; )

hmmm.... but that is only from my POV ; \

Well, yes, I know that HyperText Markup Language is a language in the technical sense, but not necessarily in the programming perception sense, as it were. ;)

yeahh, i knew that you could do that wit sql.... but i never considerd it as a programming language... oh well, doesn't really matter, it is all due to the difference of your(and my ; ) deffinition

Oh yeah, I know Assembler and VHDL too, but I'd never program anything with those since they're more used in hardware.  ;D

Yeah, I guess SQL isn't really a programming language, but I've been using it as one. ;)  In particular, for string manipulation & date conversion.  It's definitely a different way of thinking, but doing a SELECT query is just like doing a for loop on an array and the WHERE clause is like an if statement.  The rest just has to do with the displaying of results, and the FROM is the array(s) you're looking through.  XD

Jeysie, with BASIC I remember making the screen flash different colors and play sounds and notes.  It was fun because it was so simplistic.  Remember Octave?

yeahh i did some courses in programming embedded software and programming processors so we used assembly for that.... it was quite fun ; )

Dew: Hee! Yeah, I remember the color and sound stuff! I used to muck about with that too. I never composed/designed anything that wouldn't make you want to claw your ears/eyes off, though. (Hey, I was 7 years old... cut me some slack. Of course, nowadays a 7 year old could probably fake a whole MIDI symphony or some crap... :P Told you I wasn't a brain.)

Back to Yonkey's thoughts on SQL. My programer friend (personal code guru) often combines mySQL and Perl with great results.  Neither are technically programing languages but he does wonders with them! :)

Prolog was fun ;), but again not quite a programming language.  Well, most of the crap we did with it wasn't very complicated anyway.

Ugh, speaking of Perl, the old KQ9 site had so much Perl in it!  :X  I'm so happy that this new one only uses one cgi script, and that's just cuz I couldn't be bothered doing it in PHP.  ;D
