And away we go! This first video is a little over 30 minutes long; I don't know if all of them will be that long but they certainly won't be much longer. There were a lot of explanations that drew it out too, and I had to kill time until Manannan left. Anyway, enjoy! Comments and criticisms are welcome as always.

Extras! - FINAL
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

Arkillian

Just so you know, you can time when Manannan appears and disappears, and if you don't enter where you shouldn't be, then he doesn't give you extra shores. Just one. IF you get given extra chores it takes away from your free time from him

Also, I think time speeds up when you're on fast :)

Thanks. I know this; but since I was trying to give a complete tour of the house and all of the things you can do, as well as how this game is different because you're a slave, it was necessary to get myself in a little bit of trouble and get ordered around more than I would if I just waited for him to leave.

No; the animations speed up but the clock does not. In fact, I think I mentioned in the video that the in-game clock did not run at the same time as our clocks, but in fact it does.

Arkillian

Well, there's definitely a formula, and the more chores you do, the less free time you get. If you know that though then it's cool ^^

Enchantermon

Yeah. I'll just have to be careful with my time. When I played through it just before TSL came out, I was able to get everything done at the bottom of the mountain and get back up before Manannan came back home, then I just finished the spells while he was asleep. I won't rush through it quite so fast for this, but I should still have plenty of time to get everything done before I run out of food for Manannan.

Arkillian

Yeah- when you know what to do it's easy, eh? You need to be careful not to mis the boat then, cause that'll disappear 15 minutes after you defeat Manannan off memory then all your effort is wasted. That happened to me T.T Sucked BIG time.

Enchantermon

The boat is timed, too? That I did not know. Thanks.

It is! It's the worst thing EVAH D: I was so upset when I turned up and it had left T.T

Enchantermon

Wait, had you already visited the pirates? I knew it was timed after you pay them, but is it also timed before?

Arkillian

Actually- I can't answer that. I guess I should've left it to the last minute T.T I don't know if they're timed too :(

Enchantermon

Ah. Yeah, plus I think the pirates only appear in the bar twice after you free yourself; after that, if you haven't paid them, you're stuck.

Arkillian

Yeah- teleportation at random stone THEN epic freedom T.T Check.

Enchantermon

Lol.

Part 2 is up! This part was very interesting for a number of reasons, one being that during the recording (it's edited out, so you won't notice), I noticed that I cannot open my inventory; if I do, Fraps wigs out and the game crashes. I haven't tried it, but I'm pretty sure the same will happen if I try to use the magic map too, so I'm down an advantage. I doubt I'll need it, but still, it's a little disappointing. All comments and critiques are welcome. :)

Part 3 is up! The magic map works, I discovered, because I remembered that I can look at it with the command line, and for some reason Fraps records it fine. There must be a difference between the game displaying the inventory and the game displaying the map, though I don't know what it is. Anyway, it works, so I'm happy. Comment and critique if you feel so inclined! :)

You are supposed to type look in the bandits house to check for movement, if so exit the screen down the ladder and check again. I'm pretty sure you don't need to be robbed to get the gold from the bandits. It was torture watching you there, to be honest. Also you can eavesdrop on the bandits in the tavern as a fly. I'm not sure if you remembered the mistletoe or not. The eagle also appears in the waterfall screen where you get the mud.

I used to be so efficient at this game and had everything done for max points before Manannan returned from his first journey and then I fed him the porridge and jumped on the ship.

Wait, what?
:wall:
I never thought about trying that. The last time I played (right before TSL came out), I got lucky and they were asleep on the first try, but before that the last time was a long, long time ago, and I thought I remembered from that time that saving and restoring reset the chance as to whether the bandits were there or not. Apparently I was wrong. But I never thought to use look to actually check the house. Wow.

Yeah...you don't. Because it's a Let's Play, I wanted to show what happened when you were robbed and what you could do about it. If I implied or said in the video that you had to be robbed to get the gold, that was a slip of the tongue, sorry.
Quote from: drunkenmonkey on January 13, 2011, 11:25:20 PMAlso you can eavesdrop on the bandits in the tavern as a fly.
Yes, you can. I heard about that a while back, but forgot to try it.
Quote from: drunkenmonkey on January 13, 2011, 11:25:20 PMI'm not sure if you remembered the mistletoe or not.
Yeah, I got it. I don't know if it was in that video or not, but I do have it.

Oh, really? I've never seen him there; that's good to know.

Nice. I'm pretty much the same way, though I usually wait to complete the rest of the spells and visit the oracle until after I've done away with him, but I can get all of my other errands done in town and make the cookie before he gets back from his journey. Since this is a Let's Play, though, I wanted to take things a little slower so as to not leave anyone who hadn't played the game in the dust.

Thanks for your comments; I appreciate it. Even though I feel like an idiot now, learning new things about the game is really cool. When I last played KQIII, I learned about flying as a fly into the acorn tree's hole for the first time (when I first played the game, my uncle helped me with that puzzle and suggested I reach in the hole), and when I last played KQII I learned about (and forgot to record) the Easter Egg message you get when trying to ride the carpet in the cave up on the mountain. It always gives me a good feeling to discover something new, whether it's by accident or by someone telling me. :)

Lambonius

I'm pretty sure you actually HAVE to eavesdrop on the bandits in the tavern to get full points.

Enchantermon

Oh.....crap.
Yeah, you're right. Thanks; I might be able to do something about that still.

Part 4 is up! Something weird happened with Gwydion towards the end; his walking became erratic. Not sure what's up with that; might have just been DOSBox acting up.

Part 5 and we're done! Sort of.

I am aware that my little spiel at the end sound weird; when I finally got to it my mind went completely blank for some reason and I couldn't think of what I wanted to say. :P Anyway, enjoy! :)

Didn't know a pirate could show up on the beach like that 0_o

Enchantermon

Yup. He's always been there for me. Maybe if you do the spell faster he isn't, but it's nothing the edge-of-the-screen trick can't cure.

Interesting I don't wait for the second message on the pirate ship. As soon as the pirate shouts
"land ho captain" I cast the sleep spell and escape. Its one more screen to swim to the beach, but the pirates are all sleeping on the ship. Therefore no pirate shows up on the beach.
