but you could always move a partly thread into the archive and put a link in the active part so that future readers could read the old posts too.

lol, nvm ; )

EDIT: back to topic: ...so anyone around here having difficulties with Dutch spelling and/or grammer??

Actually, that's not a bad idea.  I've already merged random junk in there though, so I still don't think it's very easy to read the thing from start to finish.  However, it does solve cleaning up the mess from the forums and saves from having anyone's post count decreased.  Nice!  !!!

As long as none of my small posting-sprees are affected I don't think it'd affect me much. I evenly spread out my posts, due to time-constraints ofcourse.

I don't, but I recently took a(n online) test in English spelling/grammar and the result wasn't as good as I expected. :-\ And yet, I haven't seen any complaint on this board as to my grammar yet. Does that mean you're all even worse at English spelling/grammar or that I don't use difficult spelling/grammar that's easy to miss? ::)

Probably the latter. English has its fair share of arcane rules, stuff that hardly anyone outside of English teachers and linguists even comes across in actual usage, let alone remembers. There's also the inevitable "exceptions to the rule" to throw things off as well.

Dutch spelling (particularly the new one) even has "exceptions to the exceptions to the rule". ::)

Since I am unable to learn any language rules, I also have to go with my gut feeling, both in Dutch and English (spelling and grammar). In elementary (when the old spelling rules were still valid) I got 100 % on almost every spelling test. Nowadays (with the new spelling rules, and not having practised spelling for a long time), it's dropped to somewhere in the mid 95 %'s. Ofcourse, if you're going to make me spell unusual or difficult words, I'd most likely make mistakes, but in the practical field, I do quite well.
My gut language feeling doesn't work in French, nor in German, or any other language for that matter, just Dutch (and Flemish) and English. 8)

We have that too, new words, but those new words still have to adhere to the spelling standards, people in society can't make new spelling standards in Dutch.

Yep, our spelling rules are controlled by a body of some kind, and a few years ago, under the guise of making it simpler, they made it worse. :-\

it isn't worse!! ; ) ...lol, it is quite simple..... ugh, what was worse was the preference spelling a few years before

*shivers*

luckily they cancelled that ; )

When it comes to English grammer, I have trouble remembering the rules, so I just go by what sounds right to me... I passed most of my English tests that way :P

If something sounds wrong I just don't use it - there's usually another way to say the same thing. There are some things that sound wrong to me but are actually correct, like "we will had been"... I had to memorize those for school, but forgot most of them after the test  :P

IIRC, that was a thing invented by the Dutch, not the Flemish. :-X

I don't have any trouble remembering the rules, I just don't, simple as that.

To me that looks like a mix-up if different time-related conjugations (yes, I also don't remember how those things were called in English, I do know them in Dutch though, but I guess that won't help very much :-\).
