Another fun voice actor tidbit: the woman who does Cassima's voice is Mike Fortunato's wife in real life, and Mike does the voice of Alexander!
Being chased by the shadow dragons. While I did die a number of times trying to dodge(I couldn't seem to always get it to work) they looked so cool, and sinister. It was a interesting sequence. I also got horribly killed many times trying to figure out the carriage part until I decided to try the back window. I thought the back story scenes about Valiance were also very interesting. Especially the end. I had suspicion that was going to be the reveal while I was playing, and yet it still surprises me. The guardian part was great fun too, when she was in the form with he glowing eyes it was kind of scary.  Though getting the butterfly took me so long. Oh and the Space Quest dialogue was hilarious too.
What's this I hear about Valanice?
I haven't played the game yet (technical difficulties), so if someone could spoiler tag what a poster above was alluding to with her, I'd appreciate it.

Ok, you wanted it. Here is the MAJOR SPOILER from the end of the game.
You find out that Valanice was under the care/teaching of Mannanan and he was the one who put her in the tower as instructed by Shadrack. It was actually quite sad because he seemed to really care about her. It was all part of the plan for Graham to rescue her. But, they cast a spell on her so she forgot all about the Black Cloak Society and her ties to Manannan.  She probably is his real daughter as he tells her that her "parents" are not her real parents and she calls him father when Agatha and her goon are dragging her out of the carriage. Interesting thing is that if Valanice (part of the Black Cloak society) and Graham (probably descended from the Silver Cloak Society), what kind of powers would Rosella and Alexander inherit (this may be what the prophecy was about) Oh, and they wanted to find the Pandora's box by using the magic mirror but that got fouled up when Graham found it. AND Shadrack told Mannanan to take in Alexander if he was born and teach him the Dark Arts but not to treat him nicely at all to cover it up.
Can't wait to see how this plot ties up in the end!

Great episode. The story is really unfolding.
I love the way Valanice is involved in the story and the way the Black Cloak Society meant Graham to rescue Valanice from the tower in the first place. The episodes of the original King's Quest are coming together very nicely.
Another 'thing' I really loved:
Hagatha. Nice work on her guys!
I wonder how you are thinking to end this whole plot during only two other episodes... Can't wait...
panwsjop memorabilia and pawnshop intereaction graham-narrator.
Owner: Excuse me, Sire Are you talking to yourself?  G: Uh...no
The druid connection :D

There really isn't much I did not enjoy.
loved the minigames- the cnadles, the action sequence and the chess even, though I found the chess one a bit frustrating at first.
The dog guards and the
diversion techigues for the throne room
I am left wondering if
tomato and stick are useful for something other than other bit of  fun humour
And...
I would never figure a TILE of considerable size would fit into Graham's pockets! Just how does he do that? It can hardly be explained just by necessity of the moment. I mean how does he know he may be in need of a tile at a later point in game?
:D

And of course.....
"Tis beyond my reach!
:D:D:D

Depends on how it pans out. If they do it right, they'll put me to tears by the end of the game. If they don't, then I'll be upset for a different reason. Right now, they've just baited the idea. I think it'll all be pretty difficult to forgive, but perhaps that's not what they want us to find out in the end. It's hard to tell.

All I know is that this is actually HUGE. I'm a big drama-w**** too, so... if this goes well, this'll be the EXACT stuff that I'd want to see in the game :D

Picking one favorite is hard.
Finding out that the candle circle was actually a puzzle, then having to go back to the zodiac.  Also, the BANSHEE. Seriously scared me.

Easter egg in pawn shop about Roger Wilco!!
Definitely some funny dialogue.  But really the best part of the game was finishing a ton of hard puzzles, then discovering there is more?!  This game would have taken me well over 10 hours without the hint section.

Man, I beat it this morning, and still was thinking about it at work.
Getting salt. Just too funny!

"We're sorry, the druid you are trying to reach is having an out of body experience". Good thing is wasn't "out-of-clothes experience"... although technically, they're both the same...

The arcade sequence. Surprisingly, I love it. It gave me a chance to kick back at Shadrack and Manannan for the pain they cause.
Can't wait for ep4!

So many things to say!
First I know that Chessboard Land was a Chapter 2 location, but I had just started playing shortly after this episode came out. I was so excited to have a chance to see it! Back when I was playing King's Quest 6 as a kid I always wished that I could get past those knights to see what Chessboard Land was like. What a great design you guys made for it. I was imagining what Chessboard Land would've looked like in KQ6 graphics and I think that it would've looked a lot similar to what was built here :)

Developing Valanice was such a great idea! I had always felt that she had the least personality of the four family members except that she was "motherly." Even in KQ7 I felt the Rosella story was stronger because she was adventuring to save Eldritch while Valanice seemed to me to just be trying to follow Rosella's tracks. I love what you've done for Valanice. I hope she wakes up and gets to play more of a role in the later chapters!

Fantastic designs on the villains! The Hagatha and Manannan designs are both very crisp and have both a wicked and yet human design. Very nice

Speaking of graphics, how about those animations? There were so many great animations from both in-game and in cutscene, but one that just comes to mind is when that ogre monster gripped Valanice and held her over the stairwell. It's great animation choices like that that aren't necessary to create the game but just make it feel so much more real and alive.

Actually, I think my favorite animation in the chapter is when Graham sometimes stops to take a breath while you're scaling the tower. It's so subtle, but it reminds you that Graham's a bit too old for this sort of thing now. For Valanice though, he'll do whatever it takes :) I love what a simple animation choice can add for the reality of the game

Some people don't like the arcade sequence but you know what? I absolutely loved every second of it. I'm really happy that you guys were bold enough to create that. It clearly took a lot of time and effort to make and I think that it's such a very powerful way to show Graham's unending devotion to Valanice. Very very nice work

Dying to the nail... Damn! I have a feeling that death was added into the game after the guard dog's voice was recorded because it was just so funny.
There are so many more things to say but wow, you guys definitely delivered us a fantastic chapter in a fantastic game. Thank you.

Let's hear what your new favorite moments are!

I had lots of favorite parts  ;D

On the silly side, I really enjoyed
when Graham "quits"
and
a particular new death scene/script on the Isle of the Crown (don't want to say too much, since I think the contest is still going)
I thought the artistry was absolutely spectacular on the tower and the forest spirit. The music was excellent throughout.

I also very much enjoyed the chessboard puzzle: it was just the perfect difficulty, to where I got frustrated enough that it felt really good to solve, but not frustrated enough to turn to the hints forum  :D

Thanks for the great work, to the whole Phoenix Online team!

My favourite part (and this is more than a moment) is:
The back story with Valanice in the tower.  It really ties the episode together - the episode begins with a flashback, and it ends with a flashback, each giving more information, yet creating more questions.  And then in the middle is the dream sequence, which, in spite of me more often than not despising arcade sequences in adventure games, was my favourite part of the game proper.  It was such a contrast to the collect-the-ingredients quest, and totally unexpected.  Since it was a dream world, I had no idea what was going to happen next, yet all of the guidance made sure I didn't get stuck like I would have if it were pure adventure.  Yeah, not making it an arcade sequence would have totally broken the flow of that section since it really needed to move and not get bogged down in getting stuck on puzzle solving, yet it needed to be interactive.  It really makes me look forward to when Graham gets all the ingredients and finally enters the dream realm properly.  I also loved how it's implied that Valanice is Falk (that's how I interpreted it).
Other highlights, though not as loved as the above:
Lieutenant: Do you think this qualifies as an emergency?!
Graham: Oh yes, most definitely.

The way you layered in the significance of Rosella's voice.  There's Graham's lamentation when he puts the eye on her, I loved the princess and the pea bit, and I loved the idea of using nightshade/shell to capture her voice, there's Graham being more comforted by Rosella's voice than the sound of the sea any seashell could give, and then, for a final touch, there's Rosella murmuring about the prophecy and how they didn't really know who they were.

Stick in the mud's commentary in general, I loved him in KQ6 too.

The animation in the Stongehenge-like place during the casting of the magic is cool.  So is the animation of the guardian of the forest
And my favourite death is:
The good news is you got your ingredient.  The bad news is that you don't need it anymore, because YOU KILLED YOUR DAUGHTER!!!
QuoteAll I can say is:
If Manannan is a good guy in the end I might have a brain melt down. NOOOOOOOOO! He seemed like he had a human side in that cut scene! D: And he's Valanice's Father! AHHHHH! MIND F@#$!!!! D:

Eeh, I think they're goig for a vibe that he's more like Gullom or Grima Wormtongue. Not really "good".
My favorite parts would have to be the humor. I think some of it flows flawlessly from the KQ series: the fighting knights, the hole in the wall, etc. I loved the long sequence going on about Space Quest and Roger Wilco in the pawn shop (I've said before, I think the longer narrations are fantastic, it's just that the ones that don't stand out as much or aren't as 'comedy gold' as the rest should be briefer).

Also, I do like the music. It's not the sort of music I would listen to in my spare time per se, but it does make the entire effort feel very professional.

Yeah, I had a similar reaction.  When I was on a break, I was thinking of all the possibilities around...
Valanice's druid connection
... but when it got to that final cut scene ... that was such a twist - no, not a twist, that's putting it too mildly - that my imagination also got short circuited.  Reminds me of some of the stuff that went down in Gabriel Knight 3 that was too 'what the hell?!!!!' for me to fully process (though not quite in the same way).

The
tower sequence
is definitely my favorite!

The end video showing
Valanice's Druid connection and how the earliar games are being tied to gether with the silver and black cloak storylines....Wow!! Hmmm.... So essentially she was just bait for Graham? I hope she will have some significant role to play in the upcoming episodes.
I just love the connection these two have... :D Great work!! It is such a joy playing this game.
Personally I loved the puzzle on the Isle of the Mists where you get to see all the magic with the zodiac signs in the fire and the ingredients....that looked really cool.
FINALLY!! I finished the game...!!!...and of course, AMAZING work guys!  I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.  The only disappointing part was that it was over. :( Oh well.  Something to look forward to later in 2011!

Okay, first off...
Manannan is turning into Severus Snape. If he does, I may be forced to actually LIKE him  :help:
I AM SO WITH YOU, ARKILLIAN!  That's exactly what I thought of when it showed him standing on the hill all alone...is he or isn't he what we think he is? ??? Total mind-blow!

As to my favorite parts, I gotta say that the conversation with Cassima was definitely one of the better scenes in the game.  I know you guys have gotten a lot of negative feedback stating that the narrations are too long, the characters talk forever, it feels too much like a novel and blah diddy blah diddy blah.  Personally, for me, that is the absolute best part of the game! It humanizes our favorite characters, gives them more depth.  Hearing their backstories and what they experience beyond what we've played just gives a whole new perspective on how well we already thought we knew the characters.  Don't even THINK about cutting down the dialogue, either.  If you do, make it optional like you did with the narrations (which I also love. <3), because I really enjoy listening to it all.

Katie.  Oh Katie.  "Liutenant Shorty" is not only a ridiculously appropriate name for your canine alter ego, but her voice was so hysterical that I had to save right after greeting her just so I could play back her dialogue over and over again!  When Graham first approaches her, I nearly peed my pants when she yelled her greeting back at him! I also had to turn the volume down a little to stop the crackling of my speakers--absolutely classic!  So far my new favorite character, and a girl guard dog?  We can do it! ;)

And is it weird that I really dig sitting through the credits? I mean, seeing everyone's name emblazoned up there to "The Day You Were Gone" makes me a little teary-eyed, I'm not gonna lie.  You've obviously been through hell putting this game together, and seeing you all credited for it just makes me happy-cry! :'(:)  It's been a journey, and I'm so proud of everyone that watching the credits is something I actually look forward to!

Again, I N C R E D I B L E work, you guys.  I've been  a supporter since I found you guys, and I will always be one.  Keep doing what you do and I'll keep doing what I do.  Keep 'em coming. :)  Bravo!

Gah ha ha! ;D I figured, since I post it all the time in the "What are you doing" thread, I might as wel just cut to the chase and let everyone know that that's what I'm ALWAYS doing. :)

I did!  And it was well worth the forever I took in so doing--I had a lot of time to think about stuff and consider where the story was going.  Definitely a great episode!
The puzzles were GREAT, took me back to being 5 years old and saying "wait I don't get it" as my dad and brother planned out how to complete the crafty puzzles (particularly in Chessboard Land).  Not gonna lie, I did the Isle of Mists puzzle by going "hey when we die, all of these glow, let's do all the ones that aren't glowing and see if we live" but we did legitimately read the Four Winds to make sure we had better reasoning behind doing what we did.

Distracting the dog was soooo funny.

I loooooove backstories, sooo good!

This has almost nothing to do with what was in the game, but after 10 hours of playing Episode 3 (it was a rainy day, we had nothing else to do) and getting to a point where we really had no idea what to do, my brother and I were just running around bugging EVERYONE by trying to give them EVERY item and for some reason we really had a deep desire to bug Edgar and always ran by him yelling "HEY EDGAR!!!" at the computer and trying to make up reasons why he should actually care about every dang item in our pockets.  Yeah, we're horrible people for attempting to strike up conversation using his comatose wife's voice.  For the record, Edgar is one of my favorite characters so this is not out of spite, this is out of sheer hyperness and the desire to talk to him more in the game lol.  :P
Thanks Lenny! So glad you enjoyed the game!

LOL about using the voice on Edgar. Man, if we'd thought of that one, you can be sure there'd have been some kind of long sad narration attached to it! XD
