Towards the end of King's Quest VII, Mab promised Valanice that if they all survived the conflict with Malicia, Valanice would have only sweet dreams for the rest of her life.
Maybe the bad things that are happening to her are not bad dreams, although to me it certainly looks like they are. Here are some possibilities that I've thought of to reconcile this apparent plothole:
1. There are forces at work in "The Silver Lining" that are stronger than Mab.
2. Mab forgot her promise to Valanice and/or nullified it for some reason.
3. What's happening to Valanice has nothing to do with dreams, and so Mab's promise is irrelevant.
Is there any word on which is correct?

is probably closest to the truth. And her nightmares in TSL could just be bad
memories, not necessarily bad
dreams.
It has a little bit more to do with "1", but not exactly that. :)
