Title: Let's Play King's Quest V
Post by: Enchantermon on April 11, 2011, 09:26:41 PM
Finally, my next LP has begun! Follow Graham and Cedric on a journey to rescue Castle Daventry and the royal family trapped within! Sorry for the long wait!

As a side note, I'm recording my LPs on a new computer I built for my parents since my poor laptop can't handle both Fraps and SCI (or anything newer than that) games running at the same time. As a result, the sound is a little fidgety, so please bear with me as I try to find a good mix.

Good luck!

Why does your video cut off specifically at 36:05, btw?

Man, that's a long intro.

I should probably feel ashamed for saying this, but I'm not.  Cedric is adorable.  He's a terrible adventuring partner, don't get me wrong, but he's so cute with his little monocle and vest!  <insert high-pitched squee here>

Coincidence. I didn't even notice the numbers until you pointed it out.

What, me talking or the game's intro? I talked a little too much, I think, but the game's intro wasn't much longer than KQIV's. It was just less interesting. Wait until we get to the end. *shudder*

Lol. I suppose there's a certain cuteness about him, I'll grant you that, but still. ;)

Hell, yeah!
I'll finally know how the whole story goes on :D Thx Enchantermon, I'll watch your Walkthroughs as soon as I have some time... :D (I would haveincluded a dancing smiley somewhere in my post, but there was none...)

Awesome, thanks. :)
Hopefully I'll get the next one up soon. I apologize for this taking so long, but I've got several other commitments going at the same time.

Heh. One of my friends in college used it a lot in humorous situations, and it grew on me. :)

I admit your voice sounds so different than I assigned you (since I assign voices to everything I read on the net) that for a split second I had to remind myself that this is the same enchantermon.  It doesn't help that your avatar looks like a kid...

Heh. I tend to do that, too. And my avatar is a kid from Digimon Tamers. I think he's 12 or 13 in the show.

I know, right? I just can't resist saying it. ^_^

You think you talk to much. For me, I like it when people talk lots through their walkththrough. I find it more entertaining.  ;D

I am going to be watching it soon. ;D

I always found it interesting that Graham wants stuff in return from everyone except the shoe makers /He seems to have double standards.

Perhaps it's because he could see that the shoemaker was dirt poor and couldn't afford to give him anything. Besides, you'd have to live pretty frugally in order to retire from the sale of a pair of shoes. :P

He seems to have double standards.

Very true, King's Quest is frequently inconsistent with itself. You're told to pick up anything that isn't nailed down, as if to say that there are no ethics of taking stuff, but then Alexander or Graham won't take things because they're worried about ethicality.

And how you can't hear most creatures even though you have a magic spell on that states specifically ALL creatures. Apparently only FRIENDLY creatures or something should've been specified.

I didn't have the time to watch the videos, but now I was able to watch part 2.
so far I have to say that I don't understand all the people saying that KQ7 was stupid because of its childish characters; those ants singing were REAAALLY disney-like, too! (And don't mention Cedric ... )
anywho...
it is again a very nice game, the story - as far as I've seen it - is very appealing... looking forward to watching the rest :D

They say it's childish because the toony art, has more more moments of less seriousness, and because King's Quest is traditionally realistic graphics. They were just re aiming the game to the market thoguh. Alot of games came out then with a cartooned art style. I liked King's Quest 7- just not as much as 6. I'm biased though ;) Would've liked KQ7 to be more forgiving on a higher res format though :( KQ5 and 6 translated alot better. IT's cause it's lineart and it doesn't scale nice :/

aah, alright I've never seen it from that point of view :D It's just that I really love KQ7 a lot, because I grew up with that game (I didn't know about the other parts at all; I found out about them a few months ago ^^) and I was just shocked that so many people didn't enjoy KQ7 - or even hated it!

... When I think about it now,  I am reaaaaally looking forward to seeing your, Enchantermon, gameplays of KQ7... Hee hee, your comments are going to be fun, I guess :D

....

....

I had a nice long reply that got destroyed :/

Moral of the story. KQ7 art had sprites that looked out of place. KQ7 plot was very Disney rather than romantic. KQ7 Rosella acted totally out of character in comparison to the other games to the point that I call her false Rosella in my mind. I think they had different writers for it? What ever happened, if you had no idea what the game was about, you're fine. If you grew up on King's Quest, Rosella turning from a well breed, well mannered princess that would help anyone no matter what to well, I like how KQ7 made her bolder, but I didn't like her snarky side at all in KQ7. It was totally out of place.

In saying this, I enjoyed the game alot.

Enchantermon- when you get to KQ6, think of me and all the other Alexima fans out there  :smitten: I know I'll be bringing a bucket to melt into when I watch it  :sweetheart: *giggles*

Haha, thanks.
I understand that KQVII is markedly different than the other games, but that doesn't make me hate it. It's certainly not the best in the series, but it's also far from the worst. I first discovered it in a public library (until then, I thought there were only six games; this was before we got an internet connection) and I was overjoyed because of how much I had enjoyed the rest of the games. Perhaps I was a bit blinded by my elation, but I really enjoyed it (except for the Ooga Booga parts because of the Boogeyman randomly popping up everywhere and scaring the crap out of me).

Ark: I disagree about Rosella. I always thought of her as more of a headstrong woman (given her father's adventurous nature), which fits with how KQ7 portrayed her. Her snarkier side, which does show up a couple of times in KQIV as well, is for the most part kept to herself, and when she interacts with others she does her best to be proper and respectful, only letting herself go when she's been harshly disrespected (which she wouldn't be used to, being a young princess). That didn't feel out of character to me, really.

I really enjoyed your walkthroughs hon :) I like them more than the professional ones actually cause they're so clinical. I like how you have a fanboy chuckle and crack jokes at Cedric through the game XD Looking forward to KQ6 :)

Thanks! :) I think it's more interesting to be casual when doing things like this to make it feel less sterile and more like you're playing a game with someone rather than just watching someone play. Of course, the whole lack of interactivity kind of kills the illusion, but hey, you can only do so much.

Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying them! KQ6 isn't going to be up for a while (keep an eye on the Lost and Found thread). My best estimate right now is the beginning of July, but we'll see.

what i really like about your walkthroughs is the background information you provide... it's kinda hard to get any interesting KQ trivia these days (altough there is internet) ...
