So, I'm riding my bicycle down the river road and then I saw them:

The flying b******s are back!

HISSSSS!! HISSSSS!!!

Hmm, for some reason when I saw the title of this thread I thought of this:
You can't understand the horror of these creatures untill you've seen one of them beat another one to a bloody pulp and then attack you.
Watch your mouth! That's my mother you're talking about! ;)
Your mother is a swan?
What an odd thread.

Obscure references ftw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOOM). :)

Gah ha ha! ;D
But they're pretty and their feathers can be good inventory items. :P
Hmmm. I'm picturing more like Bjork (http://images.wikia.com/fashion/images/7/70/Bjork-swan-dress3.jpeg) in a crazy dress. :P
Yes, admittedly, that one's not done well at all. :P But some pretty feather dresses (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_U65inaSp8ZE/TTB_XGrZ2PI/AAAAAAAAABg/tbrkSFSqc5k/s320/peacock%2Bfeather%2Bcocktail%2Bdress.jpg) do, in fact, exist. :P
True. That one IS very pretty--I could see you rocking it, Deloria! You'd be stunning.

Hmmm... Now all I need is Photoshop and some spare time. :P
I quess one has to spend a childhood next to their breeding grounds to understand the vile nature of these creatures. One moment you're looking one of them sticking it's neck in water, then you spend some time chasing the lizards and suddenly you hear a sound behind you:
"Wallet or life, buddy!"
They really are b******s.
Hmmm. Swans were really never a problem here in the Seattle 'burbs. It was always geese that scurred me. *Shudder*
To be honest, I'm not really sure if I've ever actually SEEN a live swan...hmmm...
A huge flock of swans migrated through my town this past year. It was pretty cool, and the first time I had ever seen a live swan. :)
Awwww! That sounds beautiful! :smitten:
Sounds like a good place to have taken a girl and gotten all makey-outey. ;)
GEESE!!
NILS: Hiya Mårt!
MÅRTEN: *CHOMP* *CRUNCH* *GLUB* *BURB*
And thus ends Selma Lagerlöf's career as a writer.

When you see a flock of birds flying, the last place you want to stay is right under them. Trust me, this is experience speaking.

Lol. Well, they were just sitting in a field and it was kind of cold out, so it wasn't exactly makey-outey material, lol. Still cool to see, though. :)

Well, this is true (I've also had this experience...not exactly a joyful one), but still, if they were all in one spot...*siiiiiiiiiiiiigh* Like in The Notebook!

Ah, see, now if it were warm and on a lake...that would be perfect. :)

Wow scary I thought of the same movie!
There's a couple swans - or at least used to be - at one of the lakes at Elon. I stayed clear. :P Got chased by the ducks a couple times though XD

The lake is right next to one of the dining halls so they probably get fed a lot by students walking out :P

You know, when I look at that picture, I see a swampy area, that has been taken over by geese. This of course means that the geese have eaten almost all the fish away giving the lake to planktons, microscopic species and insects. That would mean muddy bottom that would smell of something rotten. Not to mention the shores must be white from bird excrement. Oh yes, I fear those two actors had to breath through their mouths for a long time.
Personally I find it funny that almost all of the romantic ideas that we have come from a time when you would wear a wig to cover up either syphilis or fungal infections.

Too familiar situation. Some folks just don't understand that "Don't feed the birds" is there for a reason. We had a problem once with some birds that started to rip out our trashcans. Had to teach them the fear of man all over again, in non-lethal ways of course.
Ugh. One of the few animals I hate is the Canadian Goose for the same reason. Those things are
vicious.

That reminds me of a story someone told me about these bears that used to scrounge for food at a dump near her hometown. When some environmentalists shut down the dump, the bears went into town for food (no one was attacked. They just went into the trash). Unfortunately, every attempt to relocate the bears failed, since they always find their way back to their preferred feeding spot.
Didn't want to start a new threat and I think this is enough crazy already to post this.
So, it's summer 2010 and I'm working as a temp at the local police, mostly helping them with video conversion and getting stuff on the YouTube. Before I came in, they had already strarted a plan to shoot a video about the youth drunk driving. It was meant to be a small story, something different from the classical old guy telling kids that they shouldn't do this or that or they'll be in jail. So, I got to be there when they shot it and since nobody else had the time, I edited it and made the special effects. The result was Kuolema Kyydissä (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLU2vhRnh6c), "Death on Board".
Budget was miniscule, even by Finnish standards. After we finshed that one, we asked if we could another. They said "yes", we said "YES!" After a quick session we clindly a topic, "outboard motor thefts", we said "sh..." But quickly the frowns were turned upside down and we came up with something that we liked. Result: Perät Lukkoon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHU1RdgSxsU), "Lock up Your Rears". It's slang for holding your s**t, literally. Nobody got it, but we laughed all the way through. I think they're going to remove it soon, since it's meant only for summertime. So at the moment they're literally back!!
