Title: E3 Brain Explosion 2 - Zelda HD
Post by: wilco64256 on June 09, 2011, 12:19:18 PM
Yeah this is clearly a piece of a real game that's being worked on strictly for Wii U, I don't believe for one second that they did all this work just to demo the HD on the new console.  And it looks AMAZING.

I want.  Gimme now.

Wow, that looks so pretty!!

The controller/handheld is a little intimidating. I hope it handles well.

It's actually officially confirmed to NOT be a new Zelda game but merely a tech demo to show off the WiiU's features. Don't get too excited. Although I am excited for the future of Zelda on the WiiU in HD.

It looks pretty, it does.

But, you know, it makes me think - I don't WANT Link looking heroic, fighting giant room sized baddies that look "realistic"....  I know some people dig that, but I like Zelda looking more cartoonish.  I'd give my right eye for a new Zelda game that looked and played like Link To The Past!!!

Sometimes, I think these large, bombastic and detailed 3D rendered games suck.

That one's making an appearance on 3DS sometime soon.

And yeah they may SAY that it's not an actual game in production but they could have just as easily shown off the HD capabilities by redoing something already done for Twilight Princess with enhanced graphics so I don't buy this "we designed that entire thing just for the graphics and now we'll throw it away" concept Nintendo's claiming.

Gamecube had a demo of Ganon and Link fighting when they were showing off the system, and that didn't go anywhere as far as I know.

If you ask me we have plenty of overly-cartoonish Zelda games and only one solitary semi-realistic one. I adored Twilight Princess. It wasn't all realistic, there were still some exaggerated features on different characters, but the landscape and the areas were gorgeous and looked very atmospheric. It worked. Very well. I want more.

You wouldn't call Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask LTTP style, Bt?

No, not at all.  Not that they're not good games - but just very different from The Zelda that I love.  I love Zelda 1 and LTTP.... like, love, love.  Two of my most favorite games ever.

I'd just like to see another like that - simpler graphics, a little less "lore"..... Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have very involved plots and tons of intricate lore.

Are you talking about the art style or the style of gameplay? (3D third person vs top-down view) Because Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass for DS are top-down games. They aren't very good, though...especially compared to LTTP.

There is Minish Cap for GBA which is sprite-based and top-down. Again, not as good as LTTP but I really enjoyed it.

Oh Minish Cap was plenty of fun in its own right as well.  I'm hoping that the Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons games make it to the 3DS eshop along with the other games that are heading that way (Link's Awakening is going to be on there shortly).  But yes I would also like another nicely done top-down Zelda game in the LttP style.  That game took me just as long to finish the first time I played it as Ocarina of Time did.

I really haven't played any of the handheld games.... my wife has a DS, but honestly, I rarely consider "Gameboy" games to be real video games, ha!

Almost nothing is as good as LTTP really. Link's Awakening came close but got points for being the first portable Zelda.

I had alot of fun with the two DS zeldas. Liked thr stylus gameplay. But they are rather short. Minoan Cap was short too.

The two Oracle games weren't bad, decent length adventures.

Oh, Bt, you owe it to yourself to download a rom of Link's Awakening and give it a playthrough.  It is, hands down, the best Gameboy game ever released, in my opinion.  It was the first Zelda game I ever played, even before LttP, and DAMN, it blew me away as a kid.  In those days, it was unheard of for a portable game to have such depth.  Stylistically and gameplay-wise, it's VERY close to LttP.  If you love that game, you should check it out.  :)

Link's Awakening DX has been rereleased on the 3DS virtual console. That's the color version of the game, with the extra dungeon.

Cool.  I always meant to play Link's Awakening.  Might give that a try.

Graphics wise, that system looks amazing.  As a console...I gotta admit that huge controller thing seems disappointing to me.  I liked how the Wii had the motion element to the controls.

The Wii U won't be taking anything away from that - you will still be able to use the Wii-remote and Nunchuck combinations to play titles, and the touch-screen controller itself is motion-responsive as well.

That's the first time I've actually read that someone liked the Wii's motion controls lol. All I've ever heard are complaints and criticisms about it.

Yeah there were some games where the motion controls were really awful, but there are others where they're done really nicely.  I always thought the motion controls would work well in shooters and was very happy with how nicely they handled in Resident Evil 4 and the Goldeneye remake.  Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping the Motion+ thing works as well as Nintendo (and hands-on reviewers) have said that it does in Skyward Sword.

I thought the controls for Goldeneye Wii were really hard on the wrist. I rather like resorting to the Classic Controller Pro instead. Don't get to lean around corners and stuff, but whatever. I haven't played that game in ages. Still need to beat it. Prime 3 and Prime Trilogy are also really hard on the wrists. I wish the Trilogy would let you use the GameCube controller. Lame that it doesn't.

Given that the WiiU is still in development, I imagine if enough people want gamecube control they might go ahead and add it.  That would not surprise me at all.  They are currently getting feedback and hopefully doing something with it.  Time will tell.

I prefer the gold classic controller pro that came with my copy of Goldeneye to the motion controls. I'm just used to it with James bond games by now. I can't vouch for Skyward Sword, as I left the line when a media guy cut. I had waited for like, an hour to play the thing, only to be cut off by a media guy.

Skyward Sword requires Wii Motion Plus. You can't use a controller. You also can't use a controller in Twilight Princess either unless you actually have the GameCube version.

Oh nice!  Good to know, thanks.  :)
