Do you have an idea of the rating for the game?
The storyline does sound interesting...but I get creeped out watching Criminal Minds so I'm not too sure if I'll be able to enjoy it. :-[
We don't have one yet, of course, but it will definitely be a more mature game in a number of ways than TSL. I think it'll be "Teen" at the very least, quite probably higher than that.
We don't want it to be a crazy gore-fest though, we do still want to reach a wide audience of adventure gamers with it, too :)
With the storyline that was released, I was thinking it would have to be Teen at least.
But, I'm glad you're not going for overly gory game. :)
Personally (and as a parent), I would like to see it at Teen. With the subject matter, I can't imagine it being less than that.
LA noire is M and not very graphic just as a example a game does not have to be overly gory or violent to have a M rating i would like to see POS first game be M because I view TSL as T M would show growth and maturity since TSL
I would say make the game the way it needs to be in order to tell the story effectively. Just don't make it Mature merely for the sake of the rating.

If I understood correctly, there won't be any cameos of the female nipple, so there's no need to worry it going to Mature.
Actually, I can think of several M-rated games out there are decidedly NOT mature. (Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust is one of the most immature games I've ever seen.)
I personally think that TSL is somewhat like a combination of KQ7 and MoE. KQ7 was definitely an E-rated game, while MoE earned its T rating. TSL, to me, is like an E-10+. It's found a middle ground between the two--not as goofy as KQ7, but not as bleak as MoE. It also has scenes of intensity like MoE, but enough KQ7-like humor to prevent it from turning into a doom-and-gloom experience.
I picture Cognition as being more violent and intense than TSL, but probably not on the same level as, say, Phantasmagoria.

Phantasmagoria was 90's FMV violent and it mostly got a M rating because of the "rape" and because it was one of the first fmvs to focus on horror and murder
YEAH!! Bring on the female nipple!!!!
Sigh....... just because a game is rated "M" doesn't make it "mature".... a game can have more adult or complex themes without being rated "M". It's part of the "dark, grittty™" mythos that you need foul language, gore and nudity to make a game adult.

This. The same thing goes for movies. Alfred Hitchcock managed to make some really good movies without going there. :)

You should read the interview that Truffaut did with him. Hitchcock was really frustrated because the studios, after Hay's office took control, didn't allow him to do all that stuff. His first film, that was made pre-code, even starts with a full frame close up of a woman drowning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd-0F4IF8tM#t=00m50s).
