After obtaining the very last item on the scroll by the tree, the game tries to load the next cut scene, (perhaps cassima's speech?) the game crashes with the following error detail.

laptop specs are as follows:

I've attempted a clean reinstall in another directory other than program files, ran as admin, reduce graphics details to med quality and to 800x720 resolution non fullscreen, all of which still causes the game to crash at the same point.
Yeah I'm not entirely sure exactly what causes this but you are at the very absolute end of the episode right there. If you want to see the rest of it play out I'd recommend just taking a look here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THjDIW54z5s
to see that part at least, and then just start up Episode 4 to play through that one.
Thanks for the link! Does this have anything to do with not being able to find the "suffer"? I played the game over and over again looking for it even following the tips provided in the hints section, he will not turn up for me. :-[
yep yep , I'm having the same issue . In any case , thanks for the Youtube link !
Any chance of a fix for this issue? Same problem; TSL.exe stops responding after the last bit, can't see the ending in game :(

Realistically probably not - we haven't even touched Episode 3 in quite some time and really not even the engine we did 1-4 in for a couple of months at all. We're so busy with everything else we're getting moving right now that unless there's something that was keeping people from even being able to play an entire episode we probably wouldn't have much time for looking into it at the moment.
Thanks so much for the link! My friend who is playing with me got stuck at this point and tried redoing it four times. I did it once and then came here looking for a solution. Men. Never want to read the manual. LOL.
Unfortunately the same bug here (Win XPSP3). The game repeatedly crashed before playing the final animation in ep 3.
(Posted on: February 28, 2012, 04:08:22 PM)
I now installed the game on a totally different machine, running Win 7: the game crashes on the same point (on loading the last/ending animation in episode 3). So it seems a more general problem to me.
I had the same problem, too. Thanks for the YouTube link!
Yeah same issue here, I even tried tweaking the resolution to no avail. Hopefully at some point a patch will be released as that scene was among one of the best in the game
Yeah if I ever actually have some free time I'll probably take a look at this and see if I can figure out why it's flipping out on so many people.
Same problem here, thanks for the link, I was scared I was screwed on the ending :-[
Works fine to the last cut scene, then it just locks up. Drive looks like it's trying but nothing ever loads.
I had the same issue. Thanks for the link. But because this happened, does this mean there's no autosave to continue with in episode 4?

Since all the tasks were completed before the crash, I don't really mind it. I would think most people would agree that they'd rather see the final episode out faster, than to have people looking into this :) Maybe once the final one is completed these little things can be addressed.
Once all the episodes are done, are they going to be combined into one long game IE: no need to manually start each episode?
With Episode 5 being done in a completely different engine than the first four, and how insanely busy we've become with other projects it's not very likely we'll ever be able to combine all 5 episodes into a single free-flowing game. I won't say that it's completely impossible as there's always a possibility, but I certainly wouldn't hold your breath. Even if that did happen it wouldn't surface for years as we'd port all the first four episodes into Unity which would be a massive undertaking to begin with.
Just wanted to add: Same issue for me. On a Dell XPS 15 laptop.
Windows 7 SP 1 64-bit.
Nvidia GeForce GT 540M.
Hopepfully you get around to fixing it, because it looks like it affects a lot of people. But I'll watch the end on YouTube.
(Posted on: May 29, 2012, 09:52:15 AM)
Oh ... I didn't realise the YouTube video is a Let's Play, where the player talks over the top of the ending. That's going to ruin the ending somewhat :|
Is there a clean video of the ending somewhere? If not, can somebody make one?
Also: Maybe the issue is caused by a bad saved game state somewhere. Can someone upload their saved game from right before the ending so I can try it out?
(Posted on: May 29, 2012, 09:59:39 AM)
Just an update: I tried the "Windows 7 audio patch" on the downloads page; it didn't help. I've been trying to think about what could be causing this problem (not sure why I'm obsessing so much but I love this game so much, it would be a tremendous shame if nobody in the future could get past this part).
Perhaps it broke when Episode 4 came out. Has anybody actually finished Episode 3 using the Episode 4 client? Just a thought (since the original report was made soon after Episode 4 came out, and was followed by a bunch of "me toos"). Unfortunately, I can't find the Episode 3 download link any more. I'd like to test my theory, but I never downloaded Episode 3 back before Episode 4 came out. Can anybody point me to a download link, or make one available?
If any TSL staff member wants me to test something out, I'm happy to.
Oddly enough, out of our entire testing crew only one person had this issue at the end of Episode 3. Everybody else was able to finish it no problem.
Same issue here, windows 7, just crushes... :(
I have the same problem too on my Windows7 64-bit machine.
Can you please try the attached save and see if you can reproduce the crash on your end? Maybe the crash is caused by the state the game is in, and not a system configuration problem...
Thank you
Edit:
I was able to fix the problem when I found this post:
http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?topic=11310.msg334376#msg334376
Here's what I did:
1. Uninstall TSL
2. Download and install TSL Ep3: http://www.faircloudfinancial.com/TSL-EP3.msi
3. Restore from your save, and the ending plays.
Edit2:
If you follow these directions make sure you delete the any left over folders in your games installation directory (other than your save directory) when you uninstall TSL Ep3 and install TSL Ep4.
If you don't you'll suffer from the Ep4 cutscene bug, and could potentially prevent you from finishing Ep4 without the game crashing when trying to save at a certain point.
Same here, Windows XP SP3 32bit, GeForce 480, latest drivers.
Anyway, thanks for the amazing game! Keep up the good work.
I hope you beta-test your commercial games better than you do your free programs. Pretty disappointed as the games are really good and I wanted to see how episode 3 finished.
TSL 5 should be much more stable as it is being made in Unity. We were using a heavily modified version of Torque before so it was hard to nail down every last bug. We definitely have some very thorough beta testers, though. :)
Okay, I'm about to reinstall TSL. Should "the glitch" be fixed if I install the full build, or do I HAVE to install the episode 3 build first and THEN 4?
Give me exact instructions on what to do now that I've uninstalled.
It seems to just be an issue with the full 1-4 game being installed. If you only have 1-3 installed then you should be able to get to the ending of Episode 3 just fine, then reinstall 4 to play that one.
But the episode 3 build says (Patch Only- 500 MB) (Requires Previous 1+2 Episode Build), and seeing as I can't FIND that build...
Yeah... I don't think that build is available for download anymore. Also, there's a memory leak (the program keeps taking up more and more memory) that makes the game crash after you've been playing for a while. Have you tried saving just before the ending, exiting and restarting TSL and loading that save? That's how I was able to get the ending to play on my computer.
I CAN'T do that if the game isn't installed, and considering what I wrote in my last post I don't know if that'll work or not.
So should I just reinstall it from the full build or not?!
Okay, I'm tired of waiting... downloading Full Build and I'm going to attempt Snabbott's idea. Once I get there.

The Episode 3 installer is available at the link posted earlier in the thread here:
http://www.faircloudfinancial.com/TSL-EP3.msi
Thanks, Rog!
Downloading it now. So should I complete episode 3 before going to the full build or go ahead and download it right after?
Complete episode 3 using the 1-3 build and then install the patch for episode 4. That's how I got the ending for my LP. :)
Here's a save file if you need it. Just talk to the blacksmith, and the ending sequence should play after your conversation.

I still need to watch that, I'm WAAAAY behind!
So, if I ever wanted to play it again, with all that, it would be fine?
*one month later*
Well, that didn't work!
... *sigh* Your Save/Restore trick didn't work, Snabbott. I saved right before getting the Silver Moon back, restored, and got the last ingredient. Aaaaannnd.... CRASH! Again.
This is getting irritating! I'm even running the game as an Administrator (which I did to fix the "Death Scene Crash".
Any other suggestions? Please don't suggest reinstalling that 1-2-3 build, because we all know what happened last time: I got an Unwinnable situation for my troubles!
Sorry to hear about that, Graham :\
Well, the "Save/Exit/Restart/Restore" trick didn't work. And I'm not sure how to get that save file to work (I've tried both Open and Save to "tsl", neither work)...
There has to be a way!
WELDOOOOON!
WILCOOOOO!
I actually don't know that there is a real fix for getting past this. It doesn't happen to everybody, in fact it never happened to anybody in testing and I've never been able replicate said bug on any of my computers either during testing or since the release.
You- YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!!
:( :'( >:( >:( >:( >:( :o
So... does this mean I won't EVER see that ending?!
*exasperated sigh* Yes, I realise both Rosella and Toegoff have shown it. BUT! That, to me, isn't good enough since LPers talk.
And if it doesn't work on my laptop, what are the odds it'll work on my desktop (which I haven't actually done, since it seemed to go rather slow in downloading) either?
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!
*sob*
I'm sorry Graham D:
Can I do anything? Cookies? Anything? D:
I... I want to try one more thing (unless I somehow find either the programming code stuff for episode 3 or find another solution I hadn't thought of yet).
I want to try downloading the game onto my desktop PC. Snabbott, you mentioned it worked on yours. Were you trying the game on multiple computers, or just one? If it's the former, then perhaps it's just my laptop that's big gin' out on me. I've had that happen a few times before with certain games. The AGDI remakes of KQ1-2-3 and QFGII don't work on my laptop, nor did Space Quest: Incinerations. Neither did Ahriman's Prophecy, but that I'm not as surprised by since that IS a game from 10 or so years ago, and it barely works on my desktop (mainly something is wrong with the save game option, even though it was working until recently!)
..."Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded."
...
...
................
DAMN IT!!! I don't know how to fix that, you stupid machine!
I'm sorry you're having so much trouble, GrahamRocks. :(
That sounds like an Internet Explorer error. See if this helps:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie8-windows_other/error-message-your-current-security-settings-do/59cc236d-7baf-4552-92ff-b34b9a6942aa
If you still have the installer on your laptop, you could put it on a flash drive and move it to your desktop that way. :-\
I experienced the same issue (Graham walking of the screen - Game crashes). Tried with WinXP and with Win7 - different resolutions, quality and drivers. I want to try the Episode 1-3 version but the ones you can find a link for does only download a few MBs before breaking up. Can someone reupload the Episode 1-3 version of the game or point me to a working link for it?
Never mind - I managed to download it using JDownloader. After exchanging the .exe file from the Ep1-Ep4 package with the one from the Ep1-Ep3 package I managed to watch that final cutscene AND even starting Ep4 without a problem. For those of you who don't have the .exe file from the Ep1-Ep3 package anymore I reuploaded it here
[Link Removed]
Just rename your old .exe file from The Silver Lining and use this instead. After that restore your savegame from Episode3 and play as usual. At least for me it worked and the .exe file is only a few megabytes.
While we appreciate the advice, we can't really allow random folks to put up files that modify the game. Both for general safety reasons and due to our license deal with Activision. Thanks for the tips though!
I understand that you cannot jeopardize your licence agreement but I don't understand why it is no problem to post a link to the whole Ep1-Ep3 package (that is the link where I had gotten the file in the first place)
http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?topic=11310.msg334376#msg334376
but it is not all right to post a single file out of this package (to reduce download time). It would be nice if you could explain that to me.
But if it really is not allowed to post a single file for me please consider to do it yourself (you don't need to use this file if it is too suspicious - use the ones from your own link posted above if you cannot trust me) and call it fix or patch or whatever because there are many people (as me) who weren't able to finish ep3 and this really helped me (tried it several times). The game imo is pretty good and has a great story and it would be so sad if some people couldn't play it probably even if there is a solution for the problem.

Simply put - we have no way of knowing that the single file in question was not modified by the person posting it. Our license deal also requires that we retain control of all distribution of the game and its files, we can't have third parties distributing all or part of TSL in any way.

Thank you for you answer which I totally respect and understand. So I promise to not post any files from your game again.
But as I stated before: please consider (whenever you have the time to do so) to upload the tsl.exe file contained in the Ep1-Ep3 package from your (not mine) link again. It saves download time for the ones with the problem, it is the only file needed to fix this problem and you can be sure that it still is your unmodified file. I was very happy after I managed to fix this problem using your link which has unfortunately a very bad connection (so I had to use a download helper after several connection breaks to help me get it). Oh - and thanks again for this great game and all your work you still invest in it.
I managed to track down the original TSL Episode 3 installer, extracted out the exe file, and added it to the download page with instructions. Hopefully this workaround allows the final cutscene to work for everyone now. Thank you for the suggested fix, MarkoH01! I apologize for not seeing this post sooner.
