I wonder if Grim Fandango 2 will live upto the same standard ;)
same here... ahven't played anything lately... my last adventure was a nc action/adventure... nwn, loved it though... but other then that... nothing really ; (
I haven't played any recent games either :(
My favorite recent game is Grim Fandango, which also happens to be the most recent game I played... just show how much I'm not in touch with The Scence :P
Jason -
Is there going to be "Grim Fandango 2"? I don't see how they can make a sequal to that ???
Not to mention it's hard to believe they'll even consider making another adventure :-\
There was a press release stating that they would be making Grim Fandango 2 and Monkey Island 5 ;)
I haven't played any of those...guess I won't vote...but I'll enjoy watching who wins!
Cat
The NeverWinter Nights Triology. :lovegoggles:
I believe what Cris meant by recent, was not as recent from the release of the game, more like you recently played. I believe.
And I agree with Q and Neil :P ... do our flash games count?! :P cuz that's the only recent thing I played! :D
Well, if that's what Kurt meant... ;)
The most recent one I played was KQ6, but that was more for "work". ;P
The most recent one I played for fun... uhhh... that's actually been a while! :( I think it might have been "Beneath a Steel Sky".
Peace & Luv, Liz
I don't like most of the new adventure games. Although I can think of a one recent(recently played) game that MIGHT be close enough. Arena, it's a RPG, but I like the riddles. 10 years old, but it's free ;D
It's at Arena (http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/download-legal-arena.htm)
The emulator that makes it(and almost any DOS program) work on almost any OS(like Windows)
is here
Windows- Dosbox (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dosbox/DOSBox0.61-win32-installer.exe)
Everyone else- Dosbox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/)
P.S. KQpong is WAY too fast, I don't think it would be fun if it was any slower though. :)

The NeverWinter Nights Triology. :lovegoggles:
are the other two games worth it?? (silly question to ask you i guess ; ) ...but i was just curious cuz i wanted to buy them... and well, there are a lot of fan made levels (and some are great), so i was curious if i the expansions are worth buying ; )
Never played any of those.
Closest thing to an adventure game that I've played recently was absolutely amazing.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
*wets pants*
Other: The Longest Journey!!
I've only just started Syberia and haven't played any of those others. I want to play Grim Fandango though :)

Hahaha, unless the "adventure" is bouncing Connor's head, munching pills, eating mints, or zapping rosella... I don't think they count. XD
The most recent adventure game I played was KQ2+ by AGDI. I wouldn't call it my overall favourite, but I guess it's my "recent" favourite.

lol, dont worry, Neil and I developed those games and neither we can beat them :P (well neil is better at them than myself :P) but GunHoMac
owns KQPong! lol you could ask him what is his secret to do so good at it :P
I don't think I will. I'm sure he's better at it than me, but I think I'm doing alright(I made it into the top 10, for now at least).
P.S. I still think it's WAY too fast(and I still think it should be that way ;D ). Can anyone here actually follow the head(on the bonus round)?
Wait, beat the game? It doesn't go on infinetly? It ends at 2000 or something? ???
it is ilimitated, as you can humanly possible go :P
Nice link! I'll try to check this out when I have free time to play it ;-D

There is a free pc Final Fantasy game(as legal as KQ9)
lol gotta love that part :P
KQpong...it's all in the wrist if that top spot is what you missed...I've gotta go with Grim Fandango as my fav last played adventure game...I was so inspired that I downloaded emulators and roms for every possible system and game I could think of...sally forth adventure ho!
kwel, i want to check those site out!! ...i really like tripple triad!! ...the time I spend in getting all cards was ... a lot ;-D ...i just love card games (esp ccg's ; )
....but when do I find the time?? :'(
Ooh! I forgot one! I recently played the longest journey which, though not nearly as engrossing or awesome as kq or grim fandango, wasn't bad. One of the best parts about it was...it was really long, really freaking long, if kq9's that long I'll send everyone who worked on it a million dollars...
...
Ok, I admit, its monopoly money but still...
yeah still.... that is a lot of monopoly money ; ) ...how many games do you own, cuz there are a lot of team members ;-D
i was second on the list for KQPong :D, i was first :-\, i wonder if i still am number 2 on the list
I wouldn't exactly call Sanitarium a recent adventure game. A great adventure game though nonetheless...
I don't really play any recent adventure games. Myst scared me. It also confused me to death. I even ended up using a walkthrough. Still had no clue! Also I couldn't stand the way of getting around. I am a 112% supporter of the screen by screen format. I can't find any adventure games that really interest me so I don't play them. Also the "adventure" of baging Connors head around? Tres cool.
I don't really play retail adventure games either. Maybe you should try some of the free/shareware/trial ones, they're usually better.
Okay, by "recent" I meant "within the last 5 years." Sanitarium broke that by 1 year, but since I still see it for sale at Best Buy and Wal-Mart, I included it. I guess Grim Fandango can count too. I'm talking about games you can actually buy at a store without having to drag the bargain bins. I know it's been awhile, but adventure games used to be on shelves too, and nowadays they're making it back there.
As for myself, I voted for Broken Sword. That game was just awesome in all sorts of levels. Definitely the best adventure game to come along in years. As for others, I recommend "The Black Mirror." It's got a bit of a different flavor to it, but it's a traditional pure adventure game and the story is okay enough.
Don't let games like Myst scare you away from buying new adventures, though. One of the main reasons they don't make new ones is because people don't buy them anymore. If you buy good ones like Broken Sword, then the market will begin to show some improvement.
Also, if you want to include good original freeware fangames (that is, not based on existing franchises), those are admissable too.
Uru is great, though Syberia has a bit more plot-wise.
I really like Broken Sword up till the ending - thought it was kind of lame, so I didn't vote for that. Syberia I remember really enjoying, but it was kind of long ago for me. Same with Sanitarium - that's a really good game, though. I didn't play the others, so I had to vote for:
URU
I voted for this because it invoked memories of first playing the original Myst. I kept a journal and drew everything in the journal, took notes, etc., which I hadn't done since I played the original Myst game. I found myself wanting to get home so I could boot up my PC and play the game. I played it in 1st person because I thought the controls for 3rd person kind of sucked. Also, I have stereoscopic 3D glasses that work with the NVIDIA card I have and playing the game in true 3D was incredible. THe graphics were simply breathtaking. Sure, the story wasn't epic in scope, but it did give a lot of background to the D'ni world and as a long-time Myst series fan, that was worthwhile (heck I even own the books!).
Yeah, the graphics in that game are pretty awesome. ;D Too bad the upcoming xpack is the last one, but hopefully Uru will one day be resurrected...
I dont understand why they call action games action/adventure :-\, cos i saw Return to Castle Wolfenstein and thats classed as Action/Adventure :-\, and the prequels were classified as Action :-\, confusing and stupid :(
I agree, some action/adventure games are actually only action, i have no idea why they call them adventure, cuz the adventure part is really small and often very easy ; (

I dont understand why they call action games action/adventure :-\
Simple - the people who label those games "adventure" either have no idea what adventures really are, or want to make the game more appealing - it's not just another shoot-'em-up action game, it's an action/ADENTURE!! and that's so much better :P
Basically, any game where you have to do something besides shooting/fighting the whole time (e.g, pick up a key and open a door with it) can be, and usually is, labelled "action/adventure" :P
lol, I posted what I wanted to vote, but never even voted ;-D
*votes* ; )
Aren't they going to start making offline expansion packs for Uru?
There's one coming out in mid-June, if it sells well they'll make more. Otherwise no more x-packs for a while. ;P
Other: The Longest Journey :D
It's really fantastic game with great graphics, story and sounds and most important point & click adventure as we all love.
Indy.
Welcome Indiana Jones! ;D
That's interesting that The Longest Journey is your favourite adventure game, but your avatar is from KQ4. :o Why not TLJ? ???
Let me join Neil is saying "hi there" Indian_Jones! I hope we see you around, as I always say "post early, and often". If you have any questions just ask!
Welcome to the forum, Indiana_Jones!! ;D
Welcome Indiana!!
BTW, Neil...did last weeks poll get posted? Since the site went down, I don't remember if it had to be re-posted or not...oh well, we'll get a new one today anyway, right? :P
Welcome
Thanks everyone for welcoming me...This site is amazing. I am watching this site from the days it was amateurish untill now when it became professional. :D
I am really exited waiting to KQ9 after the disappointment from KQ8 :-[. As for my Avatar it is from KQ4 because KQ is my most favorite games series ever, i've been playing all of them several times including the new VGA remakes by TIERRA. KQ4 is my most favorite in the series (or maybe KQ6...don't know) so that's why I chose this avatar.
However I'm really not sure when KQ9 is coming ???exactly and this is something I would like to know.
I recently found this (http://www.artworxinn.com/alex/downloads.htm) !!! This version of dosbox with ROLAND MT-32 support and I hear all the games with REAL MT-32 sounds if you didn't try it yet you should do it fast, it works great!.
The VDMSOUND doesn't give you the same sounds experience as this Dosbox version.
Thank you all.
<3
I will do my best to post here more.
Indy.
EDIT (By Yonkey): Forum stretching so I switched your avatar to a smaller one from KQ4. ;D
Thanks Indy! XD
Now I understand, KQ4 is your favourite adventure game but TLJ is your favourite recent adventure game. 8)
As for when KQ9 will be out... keep watching our site, forum and subscribe to the Newsletter (http://www.postudios.com/archivedTSL/media/newsletter). :)
