My favorite King's Quest death has to be the one from King's Quest V when falling off a cliff. I just love how overacted that scream is, and how it goes on for an unusually long time. XD
What's your favorite death or death message?
That scream always terrified me, and I remember when I was little and ran into the glitch where he falls forever in the elf cave thing. XD
That said, the one where he falls off a 2-foot ledge on the beach in front of Mordack's castle is pretty great. :P
I love all the KQ6 deaths. When I realised you can actually visit the death screen *in the game proper* I was completely flabbergasted :D
I really like all the silly spell-mistake deaths in KQ3. I think it's a nice touch. But I wish they'd checked the manual properly. XD
Kings Quest 7
Being pulled to your death by the skeleton graveyard. It is probably the most legitimately horrific death in all of Kings Quest.
Being turned into a cat in KQ3! :D
I concur on the KQ3 "transformations". :D
Oddly enough in another game they wouldn't have ended it as soon as you turned into a Cat.
KQ2- Death by Brambles (in the remake especially. Brrr, dark!), and Death by Enchanter (Always a good pun opportunity!)
According to Wikipedia, if you play a pirated version of Zak McKracken, you're locked up halfway through the game and given a lecture on piracy. :P I don't know if this ends the game or not.
Wow. o_O That's kinda cool!
Edit: Found it!
That reminds me of my worst copy protection experience. I bought a game (WAY back in the day - on a 5.25" floppy) and immediately made a copy of the disk for backup. When I tried to run the game, I got a message that I had been convicted of piracy, and the game would not run. Not only was the copy corrupt, but the original was, too (The original disk was not write-protected)! >:( I never got to play the game. :( In retrospect, I probably could have taken some action against the company, but I didn't know about such things at the time.
Another thing just occurred to me. That might have been the time I bought games at trade show. In that case, it's possible that the original disk was pirated and already corrupt.
Some of the copy protection was just dreadful.
Lands of Lore admittingly was the worst, functional, one I've seen. Not only does it bring up the copy protection multiple times throughout the game but it actually takes over a minute to actually drag out the solution.
...
Let me see another favorite KQ death...
Ok how about my favorite falling death.
It is between KQ5 and KQ7...
KQ5: WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
KQ7: oooooOooooOOooooaAaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! *CRASH!*
7 definately has the most silly death scream.

I wanna play a game where being turned into a cat simply unlocks a new world of possibilities :D
*would like to be a cat in RL, actually*
KQ1 (AGI): Falling through the woodcutter's floor.
KQ1 (SCI/VGA): Being turned into a Graham cracker.
KQ2: "This is a poisoned lake! Too bad, you die of extreme poisoning."
KQ2+: Choosing to go into the Space Quest realm.
KQ3: Walking onto the dragon screen, only to die instantly.
KQ3 (VGA): "You're all ears now, Gwydion!"
KQ3 Redux: Again, the dragon death. The animation when he blows you up is just beautiful.
KQ4: Trying to swim through the swamp as a frog.
KQ5: So many, like falling two feet on Mordack's island, but another one I like is talking to the sleeping bandit. Also, the death message when the snake kills you should have read "This is a poison snake! Too bad, you die of extreme poisoning."
KQ6: Attempting to fight the Minotaur in hand-to-hand combat.
KQ7: Letting the scorpion smack you in the head with its stinger.
MoE: Getting your soul sucked out by a Weeper, as well as letting Lucreto burn you up with his flamethrower.
TSL: Stepping on a nail in the throne room. Also, taking your winged shoes off and leaving the Winged Ones' city.
I'll have to try some of those. XD
Also, I rather enjoy the genie-related deaths in KQ6. "Come on in! The water's fine!"

What is funny is after a while if you fall for ANY of them, it really must have been on purpose just to see what the death was like.
Though I am surprised when people will just watch you die and not warn you.

*strokes Jamiecat's neck* <3 I wanna be a diamond in RL. Or possibly a graceful snow leopard. :P Being a cat would be wonderful and we could sleep intertwined in so many new ways. :D

I've been wondering about that death actually. Was it his scream that brought the ceiling down? Or him stomping on one foot?
Another death I'm wondering about in TSL is the Basement Stairs Death. Since it's so dark, I was wondering if he hit his head or broke his neck by the fall. I thiiink it's the latter...?

I don't think it matters much. He's equally dead either way. :P

Sometimes the narrator is just so fed up that she ends the game whether you like it or not.
Heck my favorite Silver Lining death was the trap door one where the Narrator outright says "I am sure Graham could get out of this himself, but there is NO way I am narrating for someone who is smelly. GAME OVER!"

Haha, I like that idea. XD
But I can't help wondering... are these deaths ELEGANT enough? Surely they lack a certain... FINESSE? :P
I made some notes about this in a book I had but for the life of me I can't find it now... Oh well. *is totally useless at finding things* :P

What?
That's not a question. :P
I don't get what he means.
He was wondering whether the deaths in KQ or TSL were elegant enough. :P Mostly because he murdered someone in the Ultimate Murder Mysteries thread and his tell was that he preferred elegant and strange deaths. :P
Yes, I was caught red-handed! :D
