Title: E3 2013: What are you excited about?
Post by: KatieHal on June 13, 2013, 09:24:09 AM
There have already been quite a few announcements and reveals at E3 this year--what are you excited about? What are you not so excited about? What did you totally not see coming? :)

I was particularly excited to see this new and very amusing demo from Quantic Dream:

Well, another Battlefront game is finally getting made...don't know if it'll be any good or not, though. However, I'm pretty psyched about what I've seen from the new Wolfenstein game, which looks like a vast improvement over the last entry.

I haven't really followed E3 this year, but one each of a disappointment and a cause for excitement do come to mind:

I was somewhat interested in the new Thief: the series is an old favourite of mine, and it looked as though the new game might be a good addition. Alas, even ameliorated by the fact that one can disable the "focus" feature, what I've seen of late has cooled my interest somewhat: it just doesn't look overmuch like "Thief". :/

On the other hand, I'm very excited by what I've seen and read about Moebius -- my criticisms given in response to the E3 video remaining but notwithstanding.

I'll admit that, technologically, that video is very impressive. It does however somewhat reinforce a feeling that Quantic Dream's games tend to be nearly movies, a feeling that I think that I developed from what I've read about Heavy Rain and a preview of Beyond: Two Souls. (Fahrenheit had perhaps some tendencies in this direction, but had its "rubber band" approach to its story, at the least.)

Heavy Rain was more or less like playing a movie, but your performance in different sections DID still matter. I really enjoyed it, personally, and I was still tense almost the whole time playing and got very invested in the story. If it's something you have the chance to try and think you might like, I recommend giving it a chance.

I'm not entirely sure if The Dark Sorceror is just a new tech demo that has nothing to do with a game they're making or what. They tend to release tech demos like that, but it would be cool to see a fantasy-style game from them, or something with more comedy. A change of pace, certainly. :)
