Well, it's been tumbleweeds around here. I'm checking in - how is everyone? I've been crazy busy programming on Quest For Infamy, and trying to enjoy my summer when I can. Got to do some camping around the 4th.
How is everyone else?
Bt
I took my 2-year-old camping for the first time about a month ago, just me and him. He absolutely loved it and constantly asks when we're going again. Helped my sister-in-law move to a new apartment this week and helped some friends down the road dig a well last week.
Other than that, programming til my eyes bleed.
I've been here!
That's adorable Weldon!
Working working working here! After getting my laptop back (after daily BSODs), it's been all Moebius, Face Noir, Cognition. Plus wedding planning. This coming weekend my fiancé's mom and sister are coming up, and we're doing the bachelor/bachelorette parties and the bridal shower.
I'm like this ~> :bomb: :'(
I'm moving at the end of the month, my current landlord is very displeased. ::)
Meanwhile, after returning from a two week stay in the States, I attended an outdoors Capoeira roda in Galway... I left my "stuff" with the rest of the group's stuff (near the roda, mind you)... amongst my stuff was jeans with wallet, keys, and watch in the pockets... someone stole them while we were playing Capoeira. :( >:(
Have referee comments back from first paper, have more work dumped on me to do that, have two other projects to finish. (But at least I just had a little positive turn on one of those today... yay for tiny victories, I guess. :S)
So, yeah, I am S T R E S S E D and super busy. :-\

It's because you changed your avatar way back when, Bt.
Hey Katie, you may have posted it somewhere, but when is the wedding? :)
Let's see, we bought a house, moved in at the beginning of June, FINALLY unpacked the last boxes this last weekend (of course, some of those boxes ended up in the attic), and then generally being a housewife, which I have LOVED! Currently cross-stitching a baby blanket for one of my best friends who is having a little one :)
But I do try to check in every once in a while!
Cat! Great to see you here :) Congrats on unpacking that quickly. I'm terrible at that (pushes boxes from the May move out of sight).
It's on October 5th :)
Does that mean your username will no longer be KatieHal?
Oh hell no. I'm not changing my username :) I wouldn't want to bother, for one--I have the same username pretty much everywhere. And professionally, I'm going to stick to using my maiden name anyways.

Exciting! !!! For some reason I thought it wasn't until next year. :-\
What have I been doing the past little while, you ask? I've just been in my room, meditating, pondering...
...imagining the waves of blood rushing over me. I think I've been playing Doom too much.
I was going to assume from the picture that you were playing Okami.
Or hanging out in a college freshman girls dorm room.

One day before mine! :D
(There's also a guy at my work who just happens to also be getting married that same weekend, at the same venue, and then going to the same country via the same company (albeit different resorts) for honeymoon the same week as we are.) XD
Between the wedding stuff, buying a house, and working, we've been keeping busy :)
Neat! and congrats:)
Our wedding is not only on the same day as parents anniversary, but we're going to be in the exact same reception hall as well. Good weekend for weddings!
I was in Europe for a month visiting a friend in Germany and working on a farm in Northern Italy through a program called WOOF. Before that, I was back in California in Fresno visiting friends and also went camping in Golden Gate recreation area north of san Francisco bridge and hiked to the top of mount tam. AWESOME Summer. On the game side, the new tomb raider is amazing.
That all sounds awesome, Big C!

Yea that's it, I went through the Italian part of it.
This place just isn't as lively without Lambo.
Big C, your trip sounds awesome - and color me jealous!! I'm definitely going to try and travel a bit after we're done with QFI, that's for sure.
Wow, Katie, just a few months til the wedding! That's amazing.
Bt
It is! I'm excited :)
Also, we drove past a pub called Blackthorn tonight, I thought of you! It's in Southie somewhere.

Haha, I may have to stop there on my next trip out. I should bestow on them the extra 'e'. It's what makes you extra special, and I can't hog that all to myself.
Jordan was just mentioning the other day about how she wants to go back to Boston and go to Silvertone again. We really dug that place.
Bt
It's a good place. Though we've got so many good places around Boston, I highly encourage checking some others out too!
I'm working about 70 hours a week.
But at a theater. With people I like. So even though I'm exhausted all the time, my friends don't remember what I look like, and I hardly ever get to be online.... it's good!
Glad to hear you're doing something you enjoy! But we still need you to come back.
...We need everyone to come back. When I'm one of the most active people here, we have a problem!
What about me?

Ha, good one Numbers!
hah "numbers" not a bad way to name... umm... "numbers" I suppose :P
The problem is, when I first signed up, it was only to access the download page for TSL. I didn't think I was ever going to participate in the forums, so I just made my username a bunch of numbers that don't mean anything. And I'm too lazy to change it, so...there you have it. A very impractical username finally gets an explanation.

I have been regrettably super-busy with moving house and office work and seeing a friend off to the States. I've tried to pop my head in semi-regularly, but that hasn't produced much activity on my part really. :-\
Even if I don't post for a while I still check the forums a few times a week. I was even checking it on the farm in Italy on my iphone. You know what? There should be some other thread called "Life", in which people continually write about stuff going on, ask for advice, post pics, etc. etc. That would be a pretty cool way of learning more about people on the forum. Just an idea.
Make it! :D
I've been so busy lately. I had a botched arm implant procedure and that meant it took much longer to heal up, so moving my arm very much (and typing) was a no-no. It seems to now have finally healed up after three weeks (it should have taken a day or two max), but it still looks terrible. And then I had to pack up all of my things and leave and get to Vienna and find an apartment and move my stuff in and do lots and lots of paperwork. :S Fun stuff. I love my apartment so much! :D It has 19th century etched glass double doors and parquet floors and really, really high ceilings and it's everything I've ever wanted in an apartment! :D
I concur on the make a "Life" thread idea. Historically, that was the role of the Good & Bad thread and the What's Going On thread (I imagine people find the format a bit restrictive there, though).
actually someone else ended up creating a thread similar to that (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?topic=13690.msg357367#msg357367)
I feel like this thread needs to resurface, because it's REALLY been dead around here lately.
So, uh...does anybody have anything they want to talk about? Any good books you've read lately? Any movies you're looking forward to?
I'm excited for the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic season 4 premiere on November 23rd!
Ooh! And The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in December!
Assassin's Creed 4. I'm so glad I upgraded my system last year: 6 core, 8 gb ram, GTX 660 video card.
I played the Battlefield 4 beta, it was ok, but I am more into story driven stuff.
As far as TV, I've been watching Seinfeld reruns. Also, a Japanese television series called "Zatoichi" from the 70's. It's about a blind swordsman, really cool.

I'm cautiously optimistic about that one. The first Hobbit movie was a very mixed bag for me. I can go into detail in the "Good book to movie adaptations" thread if you want. Anyway, the trailers look okay, though the best parts are definitely the parts with Smaug himself. With that voice, he is literally a sexy beast. I'm not gay, but...wow.

I never played any of the Assassin's Creed games, though I've heard that the multiplayer was pretty amusing.
The only Battlefield game I played was 1942, but mostly just to mess around with my friends on multiplayer maps like Wake Island. I have fond memories of being on that aircraft carrier with a few buddies, throwing down a pack of dynamite right into the middle of them, looking up at them, yelling "Bail out!", and detonating it, sending us all flying through the air. Then I got kicked out of the server because my score went into the negatives.
Having my guy yell "Enemy submarine spotted!" on a desert map was pretty amusing too, at least the first time. Finally, I remember one time my friends and I had just disabled an enemy tank, causing it to burst into flames. I called out to my friends "I'll finish it off!" and ran up to the tank, stabbing it with my knife...which somehow caused it to blow the crap up, killing me instantly. Yep...those were good times.

Numbers, you're talking to the girl who is writing a KQ5 fanfic without having ever played a single KQ game, fan remakes and TSL aside.
Besides, I admitted it months ago on the What Are You Doing? Thread.
Okay, here's my two cents (for the penny that it's worth ;D )
I am looking forward to (in no particular order):
1. Obduction -- it's the newest kickstarter from Cyan. Hopefully it will get funded, they're about 2/3s the way to their goal. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cyaninc/obduction (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cyaninc/obduction)
2. GK1HD -- This is going to be awesome, if the voice acting supports the fancy new graphics. (I hope they get another narrator like the first. It reminded me of my Cajun grandfather.) (Although personally, I was hoping for a Gray Matter 2 for Mystery Game X.)
3. Moebius -- Anything with Jane Jensen's magical creative pixie dust sprinkled all over it is worth a look.
4. The Silver Lining Episode 5 -- I have been waiting for that magical day when pigs take flight and Houston freezes over which will also be the same time that episode 5 comes out. (I'm not saying that it's a far-off dream, either. Two years ago, we did have an ice storm in Houston and it did freeze over, and pigs can fly if you shoot them from a cannon. ) (Okay, so, I'm feeling a little goofy today.)
5. Finishing my novel -- Which at this point seems like a pipe dream that is more elusive than trying to catch sunbeams in ones hands.
6. The Hobbit Part 2 -- I, too, am awaiting this movie this winter. I found the first to be a poor adaptation of the book, but it was a good enough movie to stand on its own.
7. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians -- Yes, this is a real movie that will be riffed live in theaters on December 5 by the guys from Mystery Science Theater 3000. And I thought that Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny was an affront to all that is good and Christmasy. I guess I was wrong.
I've been REALLY busy working on our game, but I did manage to read Doctor Sleep by Stephen King - the sequel to the Shining. Really great read - just a real page burner. I read it in a couple of days.
Bt
I've heard really good things about that book. Basically, I've heard that it's how you're supposed to do a horror sequel--different enough that it's not retreading old ground, but not so different that it's completely disconnected from the first. And considering how iconic the first one is, it's frankly amazing that Doctor Sleep wasn't completely panned upon its release.
I hope to check out Quest for Infamy once I've finished playing through all of the QfG games as all of the different classes.
By the way, how is Kingdom of Sorrow coming along? Hopefully it won't be on the backburner for too long. I'm excited to play it for the same reason that I was excited to play KQ2+, which is that it's like a whole new entry in the series. I like the KQ remakes and all, but there are only so many liberties you can take with them without pissing off the purists. That's why I loved KQ2+--it didn't care about established canon, it just merrily went its own way with the story. The original KQ2 was never a particularly fun part of the series regardless.
*nods*
I agree wholeheartedly, Numbers.
I personally love KQ2+ and KQ3 Redux. I wasn't exactly the biggest fan of their KQ1 remake, since it basically prettyfied the EGA remake (as if it didn't look nice enough), added voice acting (Josh Mandel for instance) and character portraits, and added one new death scene (try using the Carrot on yourself when you're near a cliff and the goat is with you).
Other than that? Pretty much the same as the EGA remake.
They could have done so much more with that remake, but they didn't.
I second the question about Kingdom of Sorrow. I never got into the book (despite owning all 3), and I'm still really interested in you guys' adaptation of it. Of course, I'm excited about Quest for Infamy as well, and I put money toward that one, so maybe my excitement is misplaced. :P
As for me, I'm looking forward to, um, surviving fall semester.
And also MAGFest!
I think all the games I care about either came out already or aren't coming out for a few years. XD
I've actually been so distant from the next games coming out. I don't even know what games to expect from any console right now lol
I still occasionally lurk around here, been busy with my own company which takes a lot of my time. Can't complain either, since I've recently attracted my 8th employee and that for a company which is a little over five years old . . .
Yea, seems like many are busy. I still come here, check it out. Still waiting on that last episode. This "adult" era is no joke, half the people I know are MIA. Anyways, I digest. Back to the Sopranos... I'd love to have a Sopranos group discussion, but I can't talk about it without being entirely inappropriate. Every other word is @#$!.
