Title: Sierra's characters linger in limbo
Post by: Sir Perceval of Daventry on December 25, 2013, 01:45:41 AM
Was watching a play through of SQ6 and it really hit me just how can crappy it is in some ways to be a Sierra diehard. While everything must come to an end sooner or later, and while sometimes its best to just kill a series before it kills itself, I think that when you have series, such as KQ and SQ, which go on for a decade or more, and have characters whom the players/audience have an investment in, I think those characters and their fans deserve a truly climatic end. Yet, its been 18 years since SQ6, and 15 years since KQ8 and both of those series (and most of Sierras other series) never had closure or anything truly climatic to close out the series. Roger Wilcos next adventure never happened. We never know what becomes of the Royal Family of Daventry. Does Larry Laffer ever settle down and hang up the Leisure Suit? I think we, and those beloved characters, have waited far too long, and we deserve an answer

...or you could just accept the fact that not everything in life works out the way you want it to.

Or I could have a different opinion from you, without condescension.

I wasn't being condescending, merely logical and realistic.

Unfortunately, lots of people never get to experience closure or catharsis in real life. I think the reason we expect fictional characters to is because we envison their lives to be perfect, and because they exist in a designed world, there's no reason for them to not get those things, while to us they often remain sadly unattainable. Perceval is right to feel cheated, but I think 15 years is a long time to have an investment in something that has only led you to disappointment. :P

Right there with you, Deloria. It's a bummer that the series was halted, but franchises get the axe all the time. Getting depressed about it isn't going to help. Just ask the millions of mopey Breaking Bad fans.
