Title: Olde Adventure Game Problems
Post by: FataliOmega on August 29, 2004, 05:48:32 PM
Thanks to Storm's Identify the Death screenshot, Im desperate to play Altered Destiny. When I boot it up immediately two problems come to my attention.

1) The speed is incredibly fast
2) The music/sound doesnt play (It wants an Ad-Lib card sound card)

Do you guys have any suggestions? What slow down utilities would you recommend. I cant play it without the sound and music, what can I do about it?

Thanks

-Erik

Turbo to slow it down(google for it).

DOSbox if it's DOS.

VDMsound, if it's Windows.

How about you give me the step-by-step process from loading the GAME to mounting, etc.  All the walkthroughs are actually too advanced for me :P  I would SO appreciate it!

Sure, Cat.

Steps in order:

1) download from http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dosbox/DOSBox0.61-win32-installer.exe?download

Choose directory (folder) of your choice to store the dosbox in.

2) Double click on the installer file you just got, install like you would any normal program.

3) Now, go to the folder where you installed to, and double click on the 'dosbox.exe' file. (it will probably just say 'dosbox')

4) It will open up two black background boxes. One of them has a "Z:/" command prompt in it. go into this box by clicking once on it.

5) Now, type:the word mount followed by a space and the letter of the drive your dos computer programs are in. Another space, then the directory path of where your dos programs are.

Heres an example:

mount c c:\altered

I typed the 'c' in because the drive where my dos games are is the "c" drive. Then I typed the c:\altered because the name of the folder where my dos games are held in is called 'altered' and its directly under the c drive (without any folders before it)

6) Now, assuming it worked, type 'c:' (or whatever the letter of the drive you entered was, followed by a colon). This should make the prompt look like "C:\" instead of Z:/"

7)You are now in the folder that you mounted yourself in. Type:

dir /p for a list of folders/files in the folder you mounted.

cd\ followed by the name of the folder thats inside the folder you mounted that you want to 'open.'

Or simply the name of the file that you want to run

Anyway, IM me / post me, if this doesnt work.  8)

Technically, it'd be easier to do on MSN, but it's also about game problems since I can't get DOSbox to work.  *shrugs* I guess we'll find out when I get to try if the instructions are enough.

So far Dosbox has run all the ancient games I can think to try... the speed is the right speed, the sound works perfect... It really runs the way It should. I hope everything works for you, Cat. I dont see any reason why it shouldnt.  8)

If I have any problem running DOSbox, it will be because I can't follow directions or I'm too computerly incompetent! :P
