Title: The Casting Game
Post by: sivvrianBARRY on November 07, 2004, 12:13:40 PM
OK, while we wait for more info to be posted about the auditions, how about we play the "KQ9 Audition Casting Game!!"

Here are the parts that have not yet been casted, that will probably exist in the game. Listen to the voice auditions, and then cast one role. You may cast one role per day, although it would be nice to have many different people casting parts.

(Light) Ferryman
Atrella
Valanice
Creepy Creature
Spider - Jeysie
Monster - Koko
The Beast - Jael
Centaur - Yonkey
Guardian - LN
Fruit Creature - 'harvester
Nymph - Storm
Red Chess Pieces (Pawn, Rook/Old Man, and Bishop) - Fatali (he can be them all lol)
Oracle - Say
Dark Ferryman - Rob
Oyster - Mango
Dangling Participle - J-ROC
Old Druid - Bob

Sorry Yonkey, only one pick a day:suffer:

I'll cast Storm as the nymph for my one pick today, though. Oh, and I'm so hyped I'm going to have so many lines as the fruit creature! ::)

I've moved this game to Haven, since these castings are so not official. XD

Just one?  Does that mean we get to spam you everyday until you pick one! !!!

BTW, I picked the Fruit Creature for you since it matches your avatar nicely. ;D

How do you know I have the voice of an old druid?

This (http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/druid1.wav) one's for Rob, since it's in Dutch/Flemish.

This (http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/druid2.wav) is the same in English.

BTW, I had to adjust the input volume when switching to the English version so the first one might be a bit (too) loud.

No I didn't, not all of you. Sure, I've heard Cat, Liz, Alex, you and Kimmie, (not necessarily the audition though) but I think that's about it. Anyway, what audio format (8/16 bit pcm), sample rate (8000-48000, and some inbetween), # of channels (mono/stereo) and filetype should I put it in?

Yeah, they are officially closed, so you can record it in any format you like. 8)

The reason why I'm asking you to try out is because since you're a KQIX Fannatic, you get some benefits.  ;D So even though the Online Auditions are closed, I could show your recording to Mike.  Assuming you record and post it for us, of course.  8)

The reason why I asked was because I noticed that with my last settings, the files would get a bit (too large), even when .ogg-ed. Anyway, I looked up the Auditions page and got Mono (I can handle that), 44100 Hz (I can do that too), but the 96Kpbs I cannot find in my settings, si I'll just do it with 8bit pcm and 16bit, and see if the filesize of a 16bi-tedt isn't too big.

Ahh, you're talking about WAV format.  You can record it at the top quality wav, but you'll need to convert it to mp3 (which is where you'll see the 96kbps setting).  8)

I tried converting a wav to .mp3, but my converter says it doesn't have an mp3-encoder. And even if it did, I'd have to look it up how to specify the 96kbps setting. After all, I've got to do it all console-wise. :sweating:

See, I only revert to Windows when I see no other solution in Linux. And, as it turned out, it was not all that difficult to do. Just download and install another rpm, look up the manual, find out spaces in the filename are not allowed, and off we go! 8)

I tried ogg-ing a .wav too, but to me it seemed the default compression rate was rather low, so the size-loss was not that large. And no, there's no decent Linux distro on my CD, since SuSe only allows CD1 to be downloaded for free, and not CD2 (which you have to buy). Ofcourse, everything that's on CD2 can be downloaded just as well, but it just takes a bit more time. I agree it was easy to do console-wise, but I couldn't have known that before I read the right manual now could I?

Now, about that sending part, where should I send my 'lame excuses posing as an audition'.mp3's to? :P

That poses a slight problem. My homepage-provider doesn't allow mp3's to be put there. :-\ (Silly rules about mp3's being bad... They're my own creation! :furious: )
So, in order to circumvent those rules, I uploaded them with the .wav-extension, but they're definitely mp3, so beware when d/l-ing them, your sound player might say it's an invalid file.

But at least her accent would be cool!

I would say I don't have an accent but you have already proven me wrong with that so. . . . . . . I have a crap accent :P

Nice auditions, Copycat! :D
It should be on the Online Auditions thread though ;)

Quote from: Yonkey on November 13, 2004, 07:58:00 PMThe reason why I'm asking you to try out is because since you're a KQIX Fannatic, you get some benefits.  ;D So even though the Online Auditions are closed, I could show your recording to Mike.  Assuming you record and post it for us, of course.  8)
Oooh! :o Benefits! Now that's an excellent incentive. 8)

I thought the benefits were more of a "we put you at the top of our mailing list" thing :P Maybe I should consider applying... not that I stand a chance of making it in there :-\

And back on topic -
I cast Copycat as the Light Ferryman ;)

There was just one Comic anyway, I couldn't think of anything that would make it more comical without making it worse, that being as bad as it was.

Unfortunately, I was too late for the official Online auditions. :-\

Ehrm, Rob already cast me as the Old Druid. Does this mean my 'appointment' as Old Druid is revoked and replaced by this one, or is this last one invalid?

Indeed, I didn't go to all this trouble just to suit all of you. :P

EDIT: Yes, that's what happens if you start replying to different people in two different tabs.

The fact that any of you enjoyed it, is always good to read, but you may rememeber I needed serious persuasion to do it. 8)

I don't see why you can't do both :-\
Besides, the Light Ferryman suits your voice much better IMO ;)

We're running out of characters for people. :P

Why don't we all try to make the voices of past characters, and see what the results are(I've always wondered what the "fisherman" from KQ4 sounded like ::) ). ;P

It's just that I can't find anyone else with two parts on the 1st page. I guess the final word is up to the original poster (the one who made the list). 8)

Like I said, that's up to Neil, to 'slip' those recordings into Mike's audition-files. Thanks for the vote of confidence though. I really appreciate it (can you see my neck swelling yet?) ;]

If I had a webcam, maybe I could show you, but unfortunately I don't. :P
Anyway, I would like to know if my accent is comparable to that of a Dutchman, or is something entirely different. XB

That leaves just three parts open (under the assumption I can't play Light Ferryman too). :scholar:
