I would like to warn dial-up users that on their connection it might take some time for the pictures to load, since they are each about 250kB in size.
First of all, my snazzy car.

The front.

The back.

(A piece of) The garden (taken from the roof).
And finally, the beginning of my house-diary:
First it looked like this:
Terrain with car port.
That car port was standing on a piece of ground that was designated as a corner of the house so it had to go. So, a bit later, it looked like this:
Terrain without car port.
A closer look at the car port's spot:

Wow, CC! That IS a snazzy car! And keep us up to date on your house! ;D
Quote from: koko_99_2001 on April 29, 2005, 05:23:14 PMWow, CC! That IS a snazzy car!
Ofcourse, those pictures were taken mere minutes after it was washed. Most of time there's dirt on the sides (particularly the bottom part) and the back (trunk door).I'm thinking I'm going to have to take a pic of one of the sides too (after a wash), because the current pictures don't convey the situation there.

I already promised I'd do that a long time ago, before I even had a digital camera, and I'm not the person to come back on promises (if I can remember them, that is ofcourse). There's a few more in the pipeline, but I've not 'prepped' them yet for publication here. 8)
I believe this is the first time ever I say this.. but I quite like your house CC :)
Your car isn't too shabby either ;)
Nice pics! XD
The car is pretty nice, and garden too! ;D

See, that's why I said
residings. The terrain
is mine, the house that will be built on that terrain
will be mine, but the house I'm currently in
isn't mine. ;)
Time for an update!
The building company put a nice fence around my terrain.
Look at what they did to the former carport! :o j/k on that smiley
Kewlieness! And your car is awesome :P
News just in! (pics taken the last few days)
Looks like the builders have been back, ahead of schedule even!
And who might that be standing in the middle of that dig? :P

It's not. Just that you haven't posted an official pic of yourself since who-knows-when :P
LOVE the house.
Car is very nice as well. I like VW's.
Quote from: koko_99_2001 on May 29, 2005, 08:44:02 PMJust that you haven't posted an official pic of yourself since who-knows-when :P
I don't get any official pic of myself taken that much. And it's rather hard to take a pic of myself too, since I can't see what I'm taking a picture of if I hold the photo camera with its front at me. :P
Then get someone else to take it! XD Or just look odd and take 14 pictures until your sure at least ONE of them has to be good :P

I just thought of something. Somewhere at work there's currently a fairly recent photo of me, but that would require me to think of it when I'm there, which is always a big uncertainty. And if I took 14 pictures of myself I'm fairly sure there would be something wrong with every one of them. I'm a lousy auto-photographer. :-X
Write it really big on your forehead and then people will point at you and look at you oddly. Then you'll HAVE to remember!
Very nice car!

Write with
what? Because a) it has to come off again as soon as I am finished with the task but b) it has to stay one until I have finished it. Anyway, even withut the big text on my forehead I already managed to copy the jpg to my HDF but a) I forgot to mail it to my home account and b) it's too late now to start bringing out the floppy disc stuff and get out a floppy disk and so forth, so you'll have to wait a little longer.
Racx: which house, the one that's still in the works or the one that's finished? :P
By popular demand, I bring you:

2nd edit: and I think I replaced it with the wrong one at first.
Look! It's SUPER-BOB! No Evil will be able to stand against his combed hair! :D
*waves* :D
So, how did you manage to take the picture(someone took the picture for you?)? ;)
Woo! :D It's CC! :)
YAY! It took a while but we got a new picture :D
Good picture Bob, hope you start to post 'em more often :D
Quote from: LouisianaNight on June 03, 2005, 07:59:56 PMSo, how did you manage to take the picture(someone took the picture for you?)? ;)
As I 'touched' some posts before, a short while ago (almost) everybody at work had (to have) their picture taken and recently we learned why: to put on the intranet. So, all I had to do was locate mine, grab it and transfer it to my home pc, resize it so it didn't stretch the forum and there you go. 8)
Quote from: racx on June 05, 2005, 11:19:53 AMGood picture Bob, hope you start to post 'em more often :D
Not very likely. ::)
That's not good, Linux's thumbnails display a previous image if they come across a filename that's been used before. :-\
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house1.png)
Now you see it (from the front)...
...(and from the back a day later).
And now you don't.
Inner wall construction in progress...
Time for another update I guess:
And that concludes the inner hull.
Isolation may not be good for me, but insulation is good for a house.
The roof of the ceiling floor.
Reinforcement of the ceiling floor.
And the 'pièce de résistance' today: The ground floor of the back side has been completely 'bricked', and they've already started with the roof/ceiling-floor.
EDIT: It seems a forum-update messed around with my 'è'. :-\
Time to bring this baby back to the first page with some more updates!
The roof, still under construction.
The chimney. However, if Saint Nic is planning to deliver presents trough there, he's going to have to make himself pretty thin to fit through there AND find a way to break through the concrete wall that's at the bottom of that chimney (it's not attached to any heating device (yet).
The side of the house with the front door, completely finished (bricked).
The top floor is now completely unaccessible from the oustide, and since the ladder on the inside reaching up has not been installed yet, is completely unaccessible.
And finally, one side of the roof is now complete.
The other side, that's another matter, because that's where a solar collector will have to be placed, but the people who have to place the solar collector don't have time before next Friday, and that side of the roof is supposed to be completely finished this Saturday. Since I can't reach the roof workers, I've left a piece of paper at the construction site telling them to call me on my cell phone when they get there. I hope they don't arrive too soon so I can get some decent sleep before that happens, because on that same day I'll have to leave for my holiday and on that holiday I know I'm going to get some sleep deprivation. :-\
And now, something completely different: the snazzy car, part2!
I had to change some things due to regulatory problems (the law has been changed recently and I did not have the necessary papers to attest the changes to the car had been approved), so it's a little less snazzy (the room between the tires and the 'chassis' has increased by a rew cms). But, at least you'll get to see the darkened rear windows, and the special tires. 8)
Small update this time, work has slowed down considerably.
:o They forgot a part! (By my request.)
And THAT's why.
PS: Yes, I know the second picture's a lot darker than the first one, but just look at the sky and you'll see why. And yes, I already changed the brightness.
What is that? XD
Looks like a skylight or solar power thing...
Quote from: koko_99_2001 on August 14, 2005, 09:24:07 PMLooks like a skylight or solar power thing...
Skylight? Yeah right, ain't nothing in that attic but heating equipment. ;-D
EDIT: Actually, at the moment the only thing that's up there is some roof tiles left over. If one of the tiles currently on my roof gets damaged in any way, I still have the original type to replace them with. And in the future, besides the heating equipment, it's also going to serve as a big storage room. 8)
Solar power on the other hand... almost right. Nah, this one's just for water-heating purposes. Solar power (electricity) is planned for next year. Have to take into account the limit on tax reductions after all. :scholar:
And now, my 'muse' (?sp), i.e. the only one that can inspire me to produce something one might call a form of poetry. It's a shame I only see her on special gatherings of a group I'm part of, which is an average of about twice a year. :-[

:smitten:
I'm going to try something different this time: a collage (?) of the 6 biggest rooms in my house. Some of the pictures (IIRC the middle ones)have been rotated 90% in order to not demolish the perspective completely, they are as bad as it is now. The top is the back, the bottom is the front.
From top left to right bottom: living, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, bedroom, carport.
The rooms I left out:
The washing room, located between the kitchen and the bedroom.
The storage room, squeezed beside the storage room, also between the kitchen and the bedroom.
The toilet, besides the one in the bathroom, sqeezed between the carport and the front bedroom.
Ofcourse, there's also a hallways, one side runs from between the bedroom at the right middle up to the bathroom on the left middle and then turns 90° to the front, where it lands into the front office room, like this (yes, I also left out the office room, but that picture is incorporated into this one):
Edit (x3): changed collage, corrected img-tag, corrected spelling errors. :sweating:
EDIT: An update even messed with the degree-symbol...
8)
Wow, your house is looking good :D
You just wait, there's more pictures coming from the outside. ;)
Tthe outside wasn't quite finished when I thought it was: the space between the bricks had to be 'closed':
Left the old, right the new
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house19.png)
Either my fingers are small, or those electricity wires are thick.
New and improved carport (look at the floor)
Watch out: multiple electricity lanes ahead
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house22.png)
Even worse: which wire goes where?
Yet more wires, I just can't get over it, the sheer amount is staggering
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house24.png)
And finally, for this wire-post, is the (still rolled up) cable wire (IIRC)
EDIT: Oops, wrong link.
Are we done yet? Nooo....
The underbelly of the house, pitchdark, meaning I didn't know what I was photographing until I could watch it on the LCD screen afterwards
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house26.png)
Aha, the windows are here
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house27.png)
Backside: now fitted with the doors, windows, and shutters.
A closer look at those shutters: but this time from the inside
Date of last photo: 2005/08/31. 8)
Whilst the work on the outside is nearly done, the work on the inside is in full swing, but, let's start where we left off last time:
This is the window of the bathroom. Obviously, that means you can't just look out, nor can anyone from the oustide look in.
It would seem they're covering up their tracks (cables), but I can still see where it's been covered up! 8)
And finally, there it is: the complete front side, but with no car port door (yet).
We're going back inside now: and look at the structure they need to reach the ceiling in the lbathroom
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house33.png)
A finished ceiling
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house34.png)
An unfinished ceiling
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house35.png)
Dirty work in progress, since they covered up the window, with the niehghbor's house mirrored in the background. However, I'm not quite sure they've got the right side on the oustide/inside. ::)
Can't have a house without heating. And no, I don't have floor heating.
And ofcourse, you need pipes to transport the hot water to the heating radiators.
Obviosuly, this is where it's all coming from
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house39.png)
Where the hot water starts its distribution throughout the house.
Why are all these cables going into the bathroom? And, more importantly, where do they all lead to?
CC, It looks like this project is getting under way. When do you think it will be completed?
Huzzah, the car port door has arrived! I was expecting it to be a bit lighter brown though. :-\
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house42.png)
I can even open the car port door and look out across the street.
Okay, who's been coming through here whilst the floor was still wet?
Building garbage.
Yup, we're right under the roof, on the top floor, but where is this pipe coming from/leading to?
And this concludes today's session: the bathroom tiles.

Kitchen part 2.
This concludes the housing part today. Date of last picture: 2005/12/23.
The flooring of the living room took its time, then all the walls had to be painted, which also took some time, mainly because it was being done by an uncle of mine, in his spare time. Oh, and the ceilings had to be painted too. After the ceiling had been done, the light fixtures could be attached, and the lighting bulbs screwed in. And then, when the bedrooms were complete, we moved in, in the second half of February. Next house pictures will be of the finished product.
Now for some entertainment pictures:
My first snowman of winter 2005/2006. Actually, it wasn't exactly winter (yet), it was only November 25! That's why you already see the remaining snow having been melted around the snowman.
This time it's winter: December 30 to be exact. Due to the surge in temperature that was being predicted that night the picture had to be taken the same night and not the next morning, so I had to fiddle a bit with the brightness to make sure you can see me. As you can see, I managed to make it a bit higher than the previous one. My aim is to make one just as big as me, but since the strength in my arms is not good enough to hoist a second (big) snowball onto the first (bigger snowball, which I can roll, but at the end that's becoming hard to do too) I have to hoist a smaller snowball onto the first. Then I have to add extra snow to that second snowball so it becomes bigger. And ofcourse, I have to add snow where two snowballs attach too, because when you put two circles on each other, the top one is liable to fall off. My snowmen are all made out of three snowballs with added snow.
And finally, a picture of me, I think it must have been right after my hair had been cut, otherwise I can't see why I did it.
Look! It's CC! And look! A snowman! The house looks REALLY nice. ^^ This thread is making me want to take pictures of our bathroom, since it's being remodeled. :P But yeah, the house looks nice; the snowmen look fab, and you look awesome! ^^
You and the snowman bare a striking resemblance! :D
J/K ;P Nice pics though. :) Can't wait to see the final ones! ;D
8)
Great pics! The house is looking awesome, and I love the snowman. ;D

I think it's more because they're in .png format and each pic is almost 300kb. If you saved them as jpg's instead they'd be a lot smaller and load much quicker. :P
Quote from: Yonkey on March 22, 2006, 05:33:56 PMIf you saved them as jpg's instead they'd be a lot smaller and load much quicker. :P
I don't think so. They were originally in jpg (1600x1200 pixels). All I have done to them is:
- rotate them 90° if I photographed something in portrait mode;
- resize them to 400 pixels left to right;
- save them as png with maximum quality.
Besides that, png is open-source and jpg is patented, and Linux is all about open-source. 8)
Let's get this show on the road again!
I promised the finished product, so here we go:
Did I tell y'all I used to play (church)organ? Ofcourse this is clearly not a pipe organ, but an electric one, never had enough room to fit a pipe organ. In my last year(s) of school I used to practice at school in a church on a church organ though. Started on a piano, because the first year they weren't organizing organ yet. But, that was a looooong time ago. And on top of that, you can see a blast-from-the-past radio. See it glow? That's because it's powered by light bulbs. :scholar: (http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house62.png)
The tv-corner in the living room, where you can see my stuffed/fluffy dinosaur resting.(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house63.png)
The office room, where my two computers are. In the front, you see my old Pentium II. It's rarely used anymore, I daily use the one on the desk behind that one. The computer is behind the desk panel, so you can't see it. You can't see the LCD monitor either, because (most of) it's blocked by the CRT monitor. BTW, they're both 17-inch models. 8)(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/house64.png)
Other side of the office room, where all of my Programs/Games/CD/DVD(-boxes), books are stacked.
MY bed room. You can just see the top of my fluffy bear on the bed's right. There's also a (lot) smaller fluffy killer whale, and a (equal size to the killer whale) fluffy dolphin. ;D There's also a fluffy dog. I believe I already told y'all I love fluffy. :P On the wall you can see two Greenpeace-posters. At the back there's an inflated sitting bag.

The fluffy dinosour @ work watching over the work-laptop and the remote controls of the devices located on the tv-furniture (that would be a tv, two VCR's, and a DVD/HDD-player/writer). My cell phone is also on that table, closest to the camera.
Icing on the cake, even though it's a bit blurry.

Who might this young whippersnapper be? :D
Date of last house picture: 2006/03/09. The last two are bit more recent but since my camera doesn't save the date the photograps were taken and my memory can't recall when they were taken either, I can't tell.

The next year they made the fair-game in which I had managed to win a flurry animals two years in a row (the bear and the dino) pretty cheap a bit harder, which rendered the method I had used thusfar unuseable and I couldn't come up with a new one that was as efficient so I quit playing that fair-game.
Next (and probably final) instalment of house-pictures will be that of the driveway leading to the carport. You see, with my snazzy cartires, I couldn't dare cross the two considerable height differences leading up to the carport. Furthermore, when it had rained, the ground was all muddy so even if there wasn't a height difference, I might get myself stuck inthere. So, until the driveway was put in place, I parked my car on a parking space beside the road. However, that parking space was so narrow on the road I needed to put one side of cartires on my (sometimes muddy) terrain. :-\

Close enough. 8) NO, it's not weird optical illusion, the shoes really
do differ that much in size. They didn't at first, but they have become that way. First another picture, then some explanation.
The one of the left is the 'flatfooted', the one on the right the 'arched'.
On these pictures, you can clearly see there's something missing on the left shoe, and that's a part of the sole of that shoe. I think these shoes must have been at least 5, and probably even 10 or more years old. I only use them when I have to do a lot of walking somewhere. Last July, while I was on holiday, and when I was doing a walk of 10-15 kms (IIRC), suddenly that part came loose. Luckily, I was not alone, and another person of my walking team had found a rope a bit earlier and he used that to tie around that shoe and keep the sole part as close to the walking boot as possible. That helped a bit, but it wasn't perfect of course. It couldn't come off completely, but it wasn't held completely in place either. When we rested, I started hyperventilating, and my arm muscles cramped, which brought about the end of my walk. :-X And I had
so looked forward to this walk, since it was with my 'muse' (see a few pages back for a pic of her), and only two others). :-\
So, when I came back home from that holiday, I brought it into a shop to get it fixed. Then, a few months ago, there's was another meeting, of the same group I was on holiday with and where it came loose in July 2005. There was a walk scheduled too, so (of course) I brought my walking boots. And while we were walking about, there it went loose again... Nice shoe repair... :stabs: *clip* *clip* *clip* as it flapped up and down and then suddenly, the *clip* stopped. I thought, wtf, did it re-attach itself to the shoe? And I walked further merrily. When I changed shoes at the end of the day, before I started the ride home, I saw what happened: the part of the sole came completely loose and was left behind.
So, the shoes were discared shortly after those pictures were taken, and I now have new walking shoes. ;)
Makes sense to me. XD
*has had shoes fall apart before*
I once was having an AWFUL day and it was almost the end (only four hours of classes left XD) and I was walking into the VA where one class was...and the heel of my shoe broke on me!
We saw this movie about ultrasound and stuff. Someone used this creepy sound machine to bond her heel back onto her shoe. There was this drama thing where she was at work and steped into a grate and her arch-enemy was like "Ha." but the bond between her shoe and the heel was so strong the grate came out before the shoe broke. XD She handed the grate thing to the ebil girl and it was funny. :P They tried to test the strength by breaking it with a machine, but the machine broke before the shoe would.
lol, I ended up super gluing the heel back on. Unfortunately, about two months later, it broke again. I REALLY need to take it to a shoe repair place. The trouble: no money to do so :(

In my last picture post I promised pictures of the growing grass on the left side. This is the picture taken from normal height taken from the front facing the back. There's one from the other way round too, but it just shows the same, from a different angle, so I'm just posting this one and...
EXTREME CLOSE-UP! So you see, even though it wasn't very visible from normal height, it's growing nonetheless.
The next day... you can now see there's grass growing from normal height.

Yet another little quiz-picture you can think about the following week. What material can you see in this picture?
What? Okay, this isn't a house picture and the grass is still growing but this is a picture of the neighbor's kittycat. This was the closest I could come with my camera, if I got any closer she's just jump down on the other side. In the meantime, I've been able to come close enough for her to sniff my hands, but I couldn't pet her (yet).
Here you go, a few days later we have this picture from normal height.

An update on the front garden, there's bark between the plants now.
A change of background now, there's now also grass growing at the back.
Grass, grass and more grass is being sown at the back. The one from the last picture has reached a somewhat normal height but with those warm temperatures and drought lately every grass plant is now frantically searching for water just to survive, so the growing has come to an (almost) complete stop.
Date of last picture: June 29, 2006.

QuoteI don't think it's Granite. It's not shiny enough
Some parts at the top look shiney. But you are probably right, I live in the flat Midwest and have never seen a piece of rock bigger than a melon except when we vacationed in Maine one year, so I'm no rock expert. Some random construction rock then. :P
Some of that looks like clay...CC that's not part of your yard is it? :-\
Hmmm.. What parts of it look like clay to you? Clay I do know and I'm missing it. :-\
I agree with Petra Rocks. My entire backyard is practically clay. XD
The clay I’ve seen comes in all kinds of colors. Georgia has red Florida has gray and I’ve seen multicolored clay as well as clay with pockets of sand in it. It could be stone too but there are a lot of clean flat surfaces which you wouldn’t normally find naturally unless this is from a quarry. ??? Interesting pic.
I see what you are saying. Some of those lighter colored ones are like no clay I've ever seen, but the more earth colored ones could be I suppose.

When I took the picture the heavy construction had completely ended, and it's not a refuse pile either, as you can see in my reply to Shades. :scholar:
New pics? Nah, just an explanation to my little quiz-question.
Since so many heavy construction vehicles had ridden over the ground at the back, it was seriously compacted and not suitable to sow anything on (certainly not grass). So, it had to be loosened up (a bit/a lot).
On the picture you see the result of the first phase of 'loosening it up'. The ground has been 'torn' into small chunks, which is what you see. No rock/granite, or anything. If you picked it up, you could easily reduce it into normal (loose) ground.
So, after that stage, more stages followed, reducing the size of the ground chunks even further, until it was suited (small enough) to grow grass on, and the result is what you see in the grass-growing pictures. 8)
New pics!

At the left, you see where the hot water's stored that's coming from the solar panels on my roof. More to the right you see the device that's a) meant to heat the water to heat my house b) heat the water if the water coming from the solar panels is not warm enough. b) takes precedence over a) any time.

In case you didn't know, that's a Diablo1-box. However, since I couldn't manage to defeat Diablo himself at the end with my ranger (always my preferred character, in any RPG-game BTW) I quickly lost intrest and didn't bother buying its sequels.

Why would the light not be in the same place on both pictures if it was? Or did I interpret that sentence the wrong way?
I believe that that was a reference to the rules of refraction and whatnot as the angle at which we are viewing the car is changed, and (upon my own inspection) the position of the other lights seems changed more so than any relative change in the position of the suspected piece of paper... yes, I looked at the pictures for far too long ::) :P

The suspected piece of paper did not change its position during the time in which I relocated myself and the camera and took the picture from another angle than before. What other lights are you talking about?
The other ligths in the picture; other in that they are not suspected of being a piece of paper. ;) The light on the dashboard for instance changes shape (more rectangular in the second, not so much just a line of light on the dash), and the light at a weird angle (to our larger suspect) in both pictures is in the first "on" the rear view mirror and in the second clearly to the (viewer's) left of the mirror.
...before I start over-analyzing this... I should stop...

The light on the dashboard might have been photographed from such a sharp angle only one side of it could be seen in the first picture, and more prominent in the second. And good catch of the light first on and then on the side of the rear view mirror.
Now, do the position of those other lights confirm to you the big shape is, or is not, a suspected piece of papier?
All their positions confirm to me is that the suspected piece of paper is not in fact a light. It's true nature requires more analysis. I'm fairly certain that it's something more tangible (i.e.-solid) because it seems that it's a white something reflecting the light. All of which supports the idea that it would be a piece of paper...
*wonders if a study of proportions in the picture would lead to a revelation that the suspected paper is 8.5*11 :P *

inches... standard paper is about 8.5*11 inches  :P

Light through a window.
May I say it looks as though it's mirrored light? :P
hmm... a mirror could do it... especially if the mirror moved between photos... but then that's a random factor not an environmental one (I had been assuming that it was some effect of having the car in that locale...not something introduced by the photographer)... I don't think I'll guess again just now...
Quote from: Deloria on February 17, 2007, 08:44:49 AMMay I say it looks as though it's mirrored light? :P
If the light was mirrored anywhere, that would have been outside the room the car was in. There was no mirror present in the room, except for the car window itself.

It's been a while, but on February 6, 2007, I got greeted by a magnificent sight as I drove into my town, it had snowed and it had not melted (yet)! However, it was a work night, meaning I had to go back to work the next day. But, since it (the snow) would not last until the next weekend (probably not even the next day), I had to act quick. However, when I came to my own home, I saw the amount of snow/m² was not that high, meaning I would have to roll far&wide if I wanted to make a big one, and I just didn't have that much time.

No new pictures, yet, but I have some lovely news to share with you!
Apart from being called untrustworthy (old news), I've now also been called 'egotripper'.
Of course I didn't devise that elaborate scheme to help the other users of our accounting program to keep inputting data. And of course, I and my colleague didn't put notices in our email to them notifying them they should do some checks before they asked for our help. No, I only did it so I could show off. Yeah right. Dumbasses. :furious:
Have I mentioned yet how I definitely don't like the financial manager of our department, the one who started this all?
They obviously don't know you very well if they're calling you an egotripper. :-\
To top it all, said financial manager is portraying himself as an expert in knowing me and me colleagues. :-X

He's an idiot then and needs to rethink what he's doing.
Every once in a while I hook up my photo camera to my pc and copy the pictures on its flash memory to my hard drive. After that, I decide which one are worthy of showing up in my memory thread and I open them, resize them, rotate them if necessary, and re-save them as png. So, here we go, starting as far back as May:
Amazing how such a small star is actually a planet.
So, which one do you prefer? The one on the left, with a moustache and beard that hasn't been shaved for two weeks, and the hair all untidy? Or the one on the right, where the beard has been shaved off, the moustache has been trimmed and the hair has had copious amounts of water applied to it to keep it down?
I got a new toy @ work. Not that I can do a lot with it at home, but at least this one's got more than 1 USB-slot, doesn't take ages to load, and can work on battery power a lot longer. This is when it's closed (obviously). The only downside is it's widescreen, meaning the picture that was taken of a (now deceased) kittycat can no longer fill the whole of the screen. :-\
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/laptop2.png)
And this is when it's open.

So, can anyone tell me what this little building is that has been erected somewhere in my garden some weeks ago?
As last time, once I feel its appropriate, I'll post another picture, with which I will clarify.
The bottom one looks like an outhouse, though nowadays it is more probably a tool shed. :P What kind of berries are they? :) They look almost like the wild raspberries that grow here in great abundance, though the pic is a bit fuzzy and they flowered months ago. :)
Quote from: Petra Rocks on August 12, 2007, 10:03:55 PMWhat kind of berries are they? :) They look almost like the wild raspberries that grow here in great abundance, though the pic is a bit fuzzy and they flowered months ago. :)
They're of the red kind. Yes, I know it's a bit fuzzy, that's why I said the autofocus messed up. I have no idea if it's possible to focus manually, and if it is, how to manage that. Mind you, it's a very simple digital camera. Yes, they flowered months ago. In fact, that picture was taken at least weeks ago. At that time, they were still ripening, nowadays you can't find any ripe berries anymore. 8)

As a bonus question, if the outhouse/tool shed were empty, would it be able to contain my bicycle, as shown earlier, with both wheels on the ground and not diagonally?

Female tends to look...I dunno...softer....My hair certainly looked bad when I was growing it out, as it grew three times as fast in the back than it did in the front.

Yes, double posting, and probably three-time posting too, but I don't like to put too many pictures in one post.
A few weeks ago, I went on a trip to the USA, Fort Lauderdale, Florida to be exact and since I forgot my digital camera, I had to buy & use a disposable one. The pictures I post were not taken in the same order I'm putting them, but that way it's easiest to tell the story.
This is the type of plane in which I travelled over the ocean. Rows 3-3-2 and everyone had his/her own video screen in the back of the chair in front of him. On that video screen they showed the safety instructions, so there's no more need for the stewards & stewardesses to show everyone how it's done anymore. During flight you have the choice: listen to one of the 20 radio stations, watch one of the 9 video feeds, one of them showing live flight information, or play one of (IIRC) 5 interactive games, like a 'Space Invaders'-clone. On those videofeeds you could even watch movies, on the flight to the US only movies that were out in Europe but on the way back movies that weren't out in Europe yet but who were in the US. That was nice. ;D
(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/domestic%20plane.png)
This is the type of plane in which I flew from Newark/New York to Fort Lauderdale & back. No individual videoscreens anymore, so no more interactive games, but there were monitors spread through the plane which showed the safety instructions and a selection of the videofeeds that were available on the transatlantic flight. That plane was smaller and had 3-3 seats. You could still listen to one of the 20 radio stations though, even thought what they played was also identical to what you could hear on the transatlantic flight.
(Posted on: November 15, 2007, 12:51:13 AM)
I would like to add the transatlantic plane arrived at Newark too late for me to pass Immigration
and get to the next gate, so I had to reschedule. Luckily, there was still a seat available on a later flight that day. Before I left there, I alerted the driver that was supposed to pick me up at Fort Lauderdale airport I would be arriving at a later time. In Fort Lauderdale, after I had picked up my suitcase I looked around for someone holding a sign of the company I was visiting but couldn't see anyone. I walked out, looked around everywhere and still couldn't see anyone. Just as I arrived back at my starting point and was thinking about calling him again, he was calling me on my cell phone. 'Where are you'? I was outside at that time. 'Come back inside'. 'Is that you?' Yes, this is me *wave*. I can't understand why I missed him the first time. :-\ We go to his car and I never expected it to be this big.

This is the inside of the limo. Nice soft seats. And very important when I arrived: fresh water. It was hot in those clothes. I stripped out some of my clothes at the top, rolled up my pant sleeves, and quenched my thirst. I fiddled a bit with contrast and stuff as I forgot to use the flash because I thought it was light enough.

This is the hotel I was staying at. However, since I was arriving when it was dark, I couldn't see it at the time. This picture was taken shortly before I left again. (http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/guide1.png)
I was greeted by this man on the right. We went to the front desk, there was a bit of an issue about the credit card, but finally they understood the credit card that was used to reserve the room (not my own) would suffice. The guide told me there were 2 other investors there, Swedes, and they were going to watch a comedy show in a short time. He asked if I wanted to come, and of course I said yes. After all, it was all on him. After refreshing myself quickly in my room, I went to the place he said he'd wait for me and we went to the comedy club. Apart from the 2 Swedes (a couple) there was another employee from the company with his date. I had made a photo of the Swedish couple, but unfortunately, my disposable camera failed on that one. I am trying to obtain another photograph of them, but to date, with little success. The stand-up comedians that were performing in there that night, were okay, but nothing more.
On the next day, our guide had planned a visit to the company, which after all, was the main reason we were there (both the Swedish couple and I were investors in the company).

I was shown around the company by the man that's interviewed when you follow this (http://www.scorpionperformance.com/southfloridabusiness/) link.
Unfortunately, Investor Relations is in another location so I can't meet the guy who calls me on the phone at regular intervals to keep me up to date on the company's doings. Before we leave (the company) we get envelopes containing the money to reimburse our plane tickets. After the tour we go to a restaurant, where the other guy from the company, the one we met at the comedy club the day before, joins us, but without his date this time. I'm going to buy a disposable camera when I get back in the hotel later that day. The next day, if the weather is good, we'll visit the Everglades. If not, we were going to visit a big shopping center. Luckily the weather was good. ;)

We're sitting at the front of the air boat, and the 'driver' warned us we'd get wet. He did his very best, taking his corners so we'd definitely get soaking wet. Once we were, he took his turns a lot smoother, so he was doing it on purpose. At least being in the front of the boat enabled us to take pictures like these ones:
Gators! Can you spot 'em?
Those are lovely pictures. :)
I see one, possibly two, gators!
I see but one. :-\
I think there were two, unfortunately, I think they might have been too far apart to get them in one shot.
Oops, I forgot, I also got some presents when I left the company:
Unfortunately, the t-shirts are both 'Large', and I'm not exactly that fat/wide...The cap I wore, since I forgot to bring my usual one.
I have succeeded in procuring a picture of the Swedish couple, be it on some type of wishing card, and it's been 'fingered' with. By their request I will not divulge their names, and no, you won't be able to see it via the name of the file either:
The wife had the best accent, I don't think if you heard her talking English you could hear it was not her mother tongue. However, she didn't know much English, so the male Swede did most of the talking. Whenever the Swedes were talking amongst themselves, I couldn't understand a single word.
One of the other pictures that failed on my disposable camera was the one I took of another airboat. However, included in the message from the Swedish couple was this picture:
That's the type of airboat we were 'riding'.
Moving on, you can see a certain individual wrestling an alligator...
After we went on the airboat, we also went on a safari truck. Due to the default widescreen feature of my disposable camera the pictures I took of certain animals showed the animal far too little to be of any use.
The last two days I spent reading and/or watching tv/listening to the radio in my room since the Swedish couple was going to rent a car to drive to some relatives, and our guide SMS-ed me he had a meeting, wouldn't be able to organize any more activities the third day but would contact me again on the fourth day. Did he contact me on the fourth day? Hell no! In fact, I never saw him again onwards from the third morning, where we exchanged cell phone numbers, I've got the one from the male Swede too. If I had known the guide hadn't planned anything for me the last two days, either I could have gotten home sooner, or I could have rented a car myself and visited some TSL members, if they were up for it. A nice touch, every morning there was that day's paper on your doorstep.
On the final day, the limo driver was only a bit late and luckily he had been told by our guide to come to the hotel several hours in advance so that was no problem. I had put on warmer clothes to compensate for the weather at my final destination, Brussels, so I sat near a small water fountain to get some 'freshness' at the hotel. The limo itself had air-conditioning of course. We arrived at Ft Lauderdale airport, someone asked if I wanted to check in outside, but apparently, that wasn't possible for international flights. Inside someone (from Continental) showed me how to check-in electronically. On the flight to the US, I had to check in my luggage again in Newark, on these flights that was not needed. There was some hold-up at Newark airport, there was a long line of air planes waiting to take off, we heard after we departed from the gate. We were number 15 in the line. At one time, some passengers left their seats, even though the 'fasten seatbelt' sign was still on, and apparently, when that happens a plane is not allowed to move anywhere. The captain ordered said persons to get into their seats asap or we would lose our 'place' in the line. Luckily, we were able to keep our place. Of course, with all that waiting, the arrival time kept getting later too, on the flight information channel. That's all we can see while taxiing anyway.Using your cell phone isn't allowed unless the cabin door is open, so there is no way I can warn those coming to pick me up at the airport I'll be an hour late. Sure, I could use the phone on board, but I wouldn't know how that works, and it would probably cost a lot too, so I'm not going there. My 'visa' was torn out of my passport before I embarked in Newark, some time before we had to get on the plane, even though it was still valid. Also, unfortunately, I was unable to recline the back of my seat to its maximum, since there was a wall behind me. That, and the fact there was a lot of turbulence during the flight, prevented me from sleeping even the slightest, and it was a night flight...
The flight information at the end of the flight said we needed some paper to get into the Shengen zone, however, if that had been the case, I would have gotten them in Fort Lauderdale, since I got the papers to get into the US in Brussels. The information did say which signs I needed to follow in Brussels airport so I did that. There's a separate line for EU-inhabitants in Brussels airport and the officer behind the desk only takes a short look at your passport, and that's it. The immigration officer for the US was completely silent, sent me back the first time because I had forgotten to fill some lines on one of the documents, and took my fingerprints.
I couldn't get used to the bed in the hotel, so I was probably looking at some sort of sleep deprivation before I left, and didn't get a chance to sleep on the plane, resulting in a huge desire to go to sleep when I arrived home. However, to counter the jetlag I have to say up until the evening. My mom is in my house making sure I don't fall asleep but apparently she falls asleep first. Not that I did sleep, mind you. However, due to that enormous sleep deprivation, I contracted a nasty cold bug, and I think something extra too. Yes, my health relies heavily on the amount of sleep I get.
Thus concludes my holiday information.

The solar powered, radio-controlled watch, digital. I have no idea where it stores the antenna to pick up the signal, but it's got one. The solar cells are located in the black rectangle.

You mean me wrestling with the alligator? If you're afraid of this little one, I wonder what you'd do/feel if you looked at the (much bigger) one that was nearby. Actually, it took some serious convincing from someone else on me before I did it too, you know. I'm not particularly terrified, but I won't say I really feel at ease either. ::)

Cat-in-a-box :P
better than buying-a-cat-in-the-bag as the dutch meaning.
Ah yes. XD Mine do that too. :P They also like baskets. :P
Okay, a lot has happened since I last posted so a few updates are in order.
Went to see a very famous ship on November 9.
Had an accident w/ my bike. Several of you know about it, but this is a picture taken shortly after.
Won a new fluffy toy.
Had snow in 2008, during my accident, meaning I couldn't make a snowman then, but soon in 2009 I had another chance, and I took it with both arms (literally). Showed it so some colleagues at work, and they gave some extra pointers.
Not long afterwards I had a second chance, and I took the recommendations I had on my first try of the year into account.
New instalment will be: pv-panels. ;D
Glad you're doing better CC. I hope this means that you will be on more. The asylum has been well.... Dead without you.
Nice pics too and a very good snowman.
Sorry to hear bout the accident, glad you're doing better!

Not promising anything but I'll try. However, there have been times in the past when the patients could keep themselves busy for three weeks without the Manager (currently the Manager's personal assistant) for three full pages. So, it's not my fault that place has been dead. Blame the curse instead.
When I distributed my latest snowman-picture at work I signed 'snow fannatic'. The person who gave me pointers on my previous approved my 'improvements'.

My forth fracture. Third having do with the arm, but the first where my sleeping was seriously hampered by the thing that was on my back, to keep the shoulder in place. :-\ I was even hampered in my sideways movement. Took quite a lot time before the power in my right arm (I'm right-handed) was stronger again when compared to the force I could put on the left arm..

I have been notified by the Asylum's personal assistant a certain 'Official Waiter' has missed certain 'monthly sweets'-appointments.

Never told anyone (s)he should come by more when
I only came by once in a while...
Right, found out how to 'uncloak' my pv-panel gallery online, was only on invitation before.

Pay no attention to the Dutch annotations, unless you're Dutch of course. Also pay no attention to the apparent doubles, I just chucked them all on there. Enjoy!

Last week of September went to visit a certain ex-software developer. This is where he lives and we stayed:

The side with the front door.(http://home.scarlet.be/~pin22973/pict0112.png)
The carport doors, behind the rightmost being a model railroad track.PS: The car on one of the pics is our/my rental car, not his.
Wows that's a nice house. :P
Big too, actually too big for the couple that's usually living there. However, perfect for when you have a party visiting such as ourselves.
BTW, I'll be refraining from posting more pictures of this trip for the following weeks seeing as I've got a complicated (right) shoulder fracture this time. I'll need loads more recovery-time when I can finally remove the thing my elbow is tucked into so my upper-arm can't move (as that's where the fracture's located). Slipped when walking on icy area (which I hadn't noticed) :-\.
