Well, I'm not new but I may as well introduce myself. XD
I'm the Forum Administrator at KQIX, meaning I'm the one responsible for the whole forum. :) Also, I'm the Director of Public Relations & Web, and the Director of Programming.
I'm largly involved with the game and this website, so feel free to ask me questions about either. Of course, if the answer is a spoiler, I'm not gonna tell you... :suffer:

My name is Jesse Black and I act as a PR Assistant and Moderator on the forum and web, and I'm responsible along with the other PR Assistants to promote the project etc.
My work may not be the most important, but it's my share of the load and can take quite a bit of time. I am of course, as the others willing, and I've been part of the team for a little over a half a year as of this writing.
My love for KQ and KQIX knows no bounds, and I love the friendly environment of the forum as well as I intend to do my best to maintain this environment, and ask everybody to help me accomplish this. :)

I'm definitely not a newbie. I'm Cat. I've been around for quite a while (I remember a couple of the old forums). After a mysterious disappearance for anywhere between 8 and 10 months, I returned over a year ago and haven't disappeared unannounced since :P

Moved back to Arizona, finally getting settled, phew. Hope to be a regular attendee again, now that I'm back up with regular computer/'net access. 8)

I'm the resident black cat/panther of the forum. The regulars address me as 'CC'.
Like Cat, I've also gone through numerous forum-changes through my forum-career. Twice a year you may see my average post count dropping dramatically, but that's because RL/work is taking over.
I founded the original Asylum, which was later expanded by Racx. I am also its Manager.
On the forum I am also a leader of a large group of (black) cats.

I was replaying (and still is) Gabriel Knight II and I felt a kind of nostalgia, I thought of all great games made of that kind, King's Quest came into my mind. So here I am, to leave or stay, I have not decided yet.

I have taken it under advisement to post here, so I'm not just the random girl that popped up out of nowhere. :P
I've been lurking for... well, I initially said two years, but I guess it's only been a little over one. Time perception is leaving me.
I'm so excited about the game! My best friend and I used to play all the King's Quest's together and we were bummed when they stopped making adventure games of that style. So this project is great and I just really wanted to thank the team for working so hard to bring it to us.
And because of the online auditions I get to be a part of it too, so that's doubly exciting. When I was little, and played King's Quest 7 and Rosella sang her little song, I decided I wanted to be in a King's Quest game too... and now I get to. Yay! Sadly, though, I doubt the grapes sing. The grapes don't sing, do they?
Not much else to me. I'm about to start my senior year of college; majoring in computer science. I'm whipped by my cat. And I'm addicted to caffeine.

I'm Hezz (Heather but everyone calls me Hezz or some derivation thereof), long-time KQ fan and adventure game enthusiast. I'd been looking forward to the release of this project for ages when the terrible news of the cease and desist order came to me.
I'm addicted to an online game called NationStates, hence my screen name here relates to my nation name there, Pope Hope. It's a great community and you should all check it out. Lots of gaming fans there, of course.

In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian woman named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.
Okay, in all seriousness, I'm TribeHasSpoken. I'm Australian, 22, just finishing up my studies in economics. I tend to alternate between being very polite and formal to completely insane (my post in the contoller poll a very good example of the latter). Though Police Quest has always been my favorite series, I fully support this fan creation and have faith that we will all get to enjoy it one day. King's Quest VI - Heir Today Gone Tomorrow is easily the best game I've ever played and the only game I'd ever think of calling a masterpiece, and look forward to returning to the Land of the Green Isles in King's Quest IX - Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining (notice I didn't call it KQIX, but rather the name I believe it will have when we get to play it).

Well I'm new to the forums, but have been poking around the site for about a year. I come from the Western Mountains of Canada, but now live in the prairies. Not as many good places to go 4x4ing, but I still can find places to get stuck. I must admit my altime favourite Sierra game has been Space Quest 2. I laughed the whole way through the game. But I have bought every single Space, King's, Police Quest and Quest for Glory, and the remakes from AGDI. I'm really looking forward to this game. I was almost crushed when it was cancelled for a while. That's it for now.

Well I guess Iv've been amiss....no pun intended...But I just realized I'm supposed to sign in here if I'm a newbie....which I am.So briefly I've been a KQ fan for well over ten years now and found this sight by chance several months ago.I was involved in the signing of a petition that cat had going around.I also sent a personal letter to Vivendi and stated how I wanted them to let the game be continued. Then to my surprise I actually received a letter from them them which was posted here on the forum.I too am very eager to get a chance to play KQIX ...I do need to figure out how to get an avatar picture posted near my name.I have one all figured out but can't seem to make it work....Do I need a URL adress to do so??Ihope not because I don't have one. I've been aware of this forum for awhile and was a member for a short time. I can remember being rather irritated that the game hadn't come along as fast I wanted it to, but then crappy games are done too fast without much thinking.
I play games on and off, not as much as I used to. Really I just like getting into stuff on the net that I normally wouldn't be interested in just for something to do. But I do have a few questions.
The development team is still the same team?
What is a fan license?
So they don't want the King's Quest name on the game?
If this isn't the proper place, who can I PM? I'm interested in learning more about legalities like that.

The development team is still the same team?The most of the core team, yes. There's still Cesar, Richard, Michael (Fortunato), Petter and myself from the oooooooooold former team. And then we have Katie, Neil and Allert as well as many others who are also senior members nowadays.
What is a fan license?'Fan License' itself is not a term or any form of condition for fan developers to achieve, we were extremely lucky and such to be able to negotiate a permission to continue the game legally.
So they don't want the King's Quest name on the game?No, because they probably want to leave that oportunity open if they -ever- attempt to go for that. They gave us permission legally to continue creating a KQ game into the KQ world, including whatever it may. Even so, they just had that small petition we were obviously willing to give due to it was the begging of them being open minded about us continuing.

Wow, I'm so excited to have finally discovered this project (albeit late!) I recently acquired and played all the games up to KQVI to refresh my memory.
Playing king's quest games with my dad are some of the fondest memories of my childhood. I remember dressing up like Rosella in KQIV and carrying around my "inventory" of pretend diamonds and such. (Did anyone else do this?;D)

My first KQ game was V, and then 6, 7, then the KQ Collection and then the dreaded MoE. I remember getting KQ7 for my 4th birthday...ahh, happy memories...and I've been a member of the forum under various usernames (because of multiple computer crashes) since the summer of 2003 I think, which is about the time I found out about TSL, and I've been waiting for it ever since.

Hey, kids!
I just wanted to introduce myself, seeing as I'm brand new to these forums. I work for a national financial institution as an operations supervisor. I'm actually considering a job change at present to a much smaller bank (I'm tired of the corporate mumbo-jumbo). In my off-time, I enjoy playing board games. I would love to be involved in the development of a game someday. That includes computer and/or video games as well. I dabble in short story writing, but hope to one day write an actual book. I hate cell phones (although, I have come to depend on mine...unfortunately), love roses, and currently attempt to drink 8 glasses of water a day (quite the challenge, let me tell you).
I am a HUGE King's Quest fan! Of course, everyone says that here, right? I've been playing the series since I was eight (shortly after the release of King's Quest III). I started out on the extremely ancient Tandy 1000. The Tandys had no hard drive (at least not the one I had), so I had to swap disks between certain screens. It was SO slow. I had that ridiculous thing until shortly after King's Quest VI was released. Sad, old Tandy couldn't even complete the final puzzle of King's Quest V (the Mordack/wand challenge) because it was so slow. I would always die because I couldn't get the icon in the right spot and click in time! Thankfully, I have since upgraded my computer, but still enjoy a delightful romp through the entire series every now and again.
Anyway, that was a bit of a tangent. Congratulations is in order if you've made it this far through my lengthy post. In fact, I think I'll end it here. I'm excited to join this fantastic group of fellow KQ fans and I'm highly anticipating the release of KQIX.

Well I am pretty new on here my brother (donnyjt) is the one who showed me the site. He is pretty psyched about all of this. Well I really like the Kings Quest Series. I first played them at a friends house he had the fourth one and when 1-7 came out in that big package my bro bought me them for my birthday. I still have them. I enjoy playing them and other games a lot like them. Well I look forward to watching what happens with TSL and am excited for it to come out when it does.

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah he has talked to me about trying out for some of the spots but he is the more computer wise. I am mainly a game player though i have tried out different programing programs. But I would like to join the team if something that I can fill opens up. I think it would be awesome. I've actually been "lurking in the shadows" for a couple years now, seeing how this would turn out.
I've always been a huge KQ nut, even back when the original KQ just came out, and my parents got it for me when I was 6 (for my Apple IIe, in 1984...so then today I would be...). When I saw that this project was going on, it really piqued my interest, and I was curious to see how far you guys would take it. When you got the trailer online and even got the go ahead from Vivendi, I was ecstatic.
More personally, I work as a database and scripting programmer in the Chicago, IL, USA area. I am married (so back off, girls ;) ), and am getting my wife into the KQ series too (at least whatever games I can get working on my machine these days).
Oh, and since Yonkey isn't big on spoilers, I'll give him one: Less than an hour ago I had an IM conversation with Yonkey ;)

Hello all. I played (or watched my Father play) KQV when it was still on Best Buy shelves a long time ago. Though the disk is lost I did retain some favorable memories of it, so one afternoon I google "Kings Quest" more or less on a whim, and after a page or so of results found this. I've been lurcking for several months, and since all I saw going on was "It'll be ready when it's ready, and you'll find out about it when its ready" plus a few forum game I never bothered to register. I changed my mind for no reason in particular ( I'm probably sounding like an utterly indecisive fool, pity it had to come out so soon ;) ;D) So here I am!
For the curious, I picked this name for the Roman Army Talk forums, as there is a city called Petra, capital of the Nabataean Arabs on Rome's border and eventually annexed by them. It is also an architectural marvel and a (semi)popular tourist destination, so it the name is sort of a pun. :P Sorry for the obscure rant, but I though an explantion was warrented in these parts.
If you couldn't tell yet, I am a "history buff" so that what I do in most of my spare time. Other personal information may follow as I think of anything interesting to the general public about my life that can't be used to find my top secret location scam me or anything. ;D

My name is Neocron and it looks like I'm going to become one of the people who moderates this forum. Neil (Yonkey) and I have been discussing the option for a while and we both felt it was time I introduced myself to all you fine people.
First off, let me say I'm gratified to have the opportunity be a part of this landmark project. I grew up playing King's Quest games (I learned how to read playing KQ2 back in the 80's on a Tandy 1000) and this project is a godsend. I know all of you feel the same way so we all got a common ground there in the form of a mutual respect for the series and for TSL.
Now then, a little about me. Some of you may remember me from AGDI back in late 2001 as the Online Community Director. If any of you were regular posters over on the E&B Portal in 2004, you'll remember me. I'm the guy that provided a lot of insight into the QA process behind Earth and Beyond Online (my posting handle on that site was "OberonQA").
I'm 27 years old and live just outside of sunny Las Vegas, Nevada. What a nice lovely place. So hot. **lol** I operate my own computer consulting business, which keeps me relatively busy, but not so busy as to preclude me from volunteering on this project.
When I begin my official duties, you can expect to see me assisting the other moderators on this forum (the Feedback forum), the Tech Support forum, and the Hints forum.

I'd rather not discuss my past here, since I just want to be a newbie fan, but I love King's Quest and I have followed this game for a couple of years. I have played King's Quest and adventure games since I was very young, and they remain my favourite genre of games. 8)

Don't worry about lurking, and lot of us did that. Or at least I did. ;D
And yes, usually you respond on the board. It can go on forever, the asylum topic has gone through over 300 pages if you count all the new threads. :o Usually it just goes on until everyone gets bored and stops posting or it reaches 100 pages in which case it is archived and a new one started. Don't worry about taking up space though, it's not like we will run out of paper. ;)
If you need to find something you can use the search button near the top of the screen. Just type in what you need to find and should show all posts with those words in them. :)

You're welcome to visit the Asylum and it's patients anytime, I'm the Manager of that rather fine establishment, by the way, as you can see in my sig lines. I'd advise against trying to rescue patients though, such as this one. Security at the Asylum is very strict, and I should know, I implement all security measures.

really advise against it. Tried it with a flying pirate ship and crew. Didn't work. (note: the crew wasn't flying, just the ship. That's an idea though... :sneaky:)
Nothing can save those poor souls. They're too far gone...
Rescuing the patients doesn't necessarily mean saving them from their insanity though... just from the confines of the physical building. Nothing can save them from the boundaries of insanity on their minds, save but for a select few.

Hearing about TSL has reawoken my long time obsession with King's Quest (more specifically King's Quest 6; such a romantic story that gets me teary eyed) which is seconded by Star Trek and thirded by Harry Potter. I used to have a copy of the King's Quest Companion and I wish I could find it because I want to read it again now... Keep up the good work. I can't wait for it to come out!

Hi! I've been playing King's Quest since I was two, and my first experience was trying to get off that @#$%@ mountain of Manannan's. Still haven't beaten KQIII after all these years, but I have beaten all the others. Although it is probably like my situation where my sister told her daughters about KQ and so they wanted to play it. There are some parts that kind of scare them but they have made it up to 6 so far. I expected 20's and 30's to be the norm

Hello! I'm Lenny! I basically grew up on the KQ games, 7 was the first my dad bought, and then he got the collection, and it goes from there. Since I was so young (about hmm... six or seven) when we got the games, I don't remember them very well. :P But randomly looking up King's Quest on youtube and watching some vids reignited my love for the games. I had almost forgotten about TSL (I knew about it, I just never kept up with it) and now I want to keep up with everything that's going on and talk to everyone else who loves the game!!!

Found :D Well hello forumpeople, I'm Judith, 20 and from Holland. I'm quite a bit of a gamer, and it can all be blamed on King's Quest 5. I remembered that about a week ago, after which I used the mighty Google to see if I could play KQ online anywhere. I ended up on several sites, including the one from TSL, and was immediately enthousiastic, so I played the demo and submitted a bug form. Yay :) So, a bit more about me: I'm currently studying psychology in university, which is quite interesting (thankfully). My hobbies & interests include reading (literature, sci-fi, science, bit of fantasy every now and then), movies (mainly arthouse-ish, I also work in an arthousemovietheatre about once a week), cooking, ancient northern Europe, Star Wars, Nintendo (also proud owner of a Nintentoo), body modification (the next tat will be before the end of the year with a bit of KQ5 in it, yet have to find exactly what I want and convert it into something I can put on my body), and tons of other stuff.

As far as body modification goes, I'm strongly against all the kinds of stuff. Even the hair color modification is difficult for me to accept. I'm for natural, all the way, earrings (just one set) is my limit (but not on me). However, this is just my own POV, you're fully entitled to have your own. 8)

Lol, I never considered Cedric though :P I don't have anything that actually exists on my body, and for some reason like to keep it that way :) And the needles can be torturous yeah, but that's mainly on bones (hipbones were hell to do :/), and this is going to be a chestpiece (there's already 2 stars there), so I'm not really worried :)

I have yet to formally introduce myself. I stumbled upon the TSL website about 1 month ago (just in time to participate in the beta contest). I grew up with Sierra adventure games and I love the work that is going on to wrap up teh KQ series. I'm just sad I didn't find this about 5 or so years ago so I could have contributed to the project. Hey everyone! not sure where to put a thread like this at. I'm a new registered user here but a long time fan of the KQ series. KQ6 was my very first video game lol. but anyway I just want to say I am very impressed with what the staff has and is doing. I've downloaded the demo and bunch of old memories came rushing back. Well, I got very confused by Merlin, and Mary Jane didn't confuse me, I saw his profile.
Yeah, people used to change their names all the time, but eventually it got too confusing to keep track who was who, so I removed that ability.
As for Mary Jane, he had a few names, but Mary Jane was by far the best one. :P The name was somewhat of an inside joke at first... I think it had something to do with Spider-Man, but I don't remember.

Methought it was high time I properly introduced myself. When I entered this beautiful place I went ahead and posted in the disappointment thread--- a major excited rant. I have obviosuly discarded all good manners-and for this uncomely behaviour I do apologize.
I am a long-time lurker and a newbie poster. King's Quest series has been my childhood game and I love it for..well I guess there is no need for me to repeat what you all know. I was strongly disgusted when kq 8 was released. This was, to misuse the words of a certain writer, "the horror, horror!".
I am 23, almost an English Major, currently in the process of completing my thesis. I am a non-native English user working as a translator. Professionally, I mostly deal with scientific or buisness translations but most of all I enjoy working with literary texts- and translating is one of my hobbies.
In games, I mostly value good storyline, non-linearity, open-endedness (which gives you the freedom to chose the outcome of your game), and memorale characters whom you can grow attached to. But good, gripping, storyline comes before everything else. It may deep ir just catchy- i just love when it twists and turns and keeps you on your toes.
With that I shall end for I think enough has been said.

Seriously, when I played my first game in English, there was a dictionary English-Dutch in the vicinity.
You should also play KQ 1-6, they provide a lot of background (story) to where you end up in KQ VII. Don't try KQ: MoE though, that's rubbish.
Oh, and I think your English is quite good. Not as good as mine was when I was your age, but then again, you're (luckily ;D) not me.

they didn't always have the new icon?
They have,. but Cray mentioned it wasn't working properly. It doesn't always shows for me either, but not sure why.
The New icons don't show up when you're logged out. I don't know if that's your issue though.
I never log out though, since I suck at remembering passwords.
My laptop never logs out as well, but the new icons usually work for me but I also look at the recient post section near the who's on line too.

I think I know what's going on. If there's only one new post in the thread, it doesn't say "New" and the orange light doesn't come on; however, if there are more than one new posts, everything works almost correctly. If you click a "New" icon, it will take you to the post after the first new post.
It's a website bug that hopefully will be addressed in the future. :suffer:
Edit: Maybe not. It seems very random. It didn't do that for me just now, but it did earlier. In any case, something's up with the website. :-X

When I was first on this forum I would use the "new" button, but that was too painstaking. The "view new posts" button is so much more effective and easy.

Hey everyone, I'm a 19-year old male from the United Kingdom. A longtime fan of Sierra 'Quest' games, my earliest memories of the King's Quest series are from when I played a copy of The Princeless Bride (my first memory of the series is the image of the gravedigger holding out his shovel for Rosella at the beginning of Chapter 4). My dad later picked me up a copy of the collection featuring the first six games and MoE, and I love them all. As an aspiring writer I have found the games to be particularly inspiring.
I have watched The Silver Lining project through its development but I am now joining the forums having joined the efforts to save the project, emailing Activision and signing the petition. It's great to see that the community is still thriving.
Just as an extension of my 'about me' and not so much a shameless advertisement, one of my writing projects is currently a a literary analysis of the King's Quest series, from its themes, characters and plot to its fairy tale allusions and unanswered questions. It's a way off completion but it's something I'm looking forward to sharing with the fans. It has also added a whole new perspective to playing the series.

There is a reason why you can not type it together (like KQ2, KQ5 etc, etc) It is all evil.
I understand it is flawed, from the simple point-and-click combat to the silly grunt Connor makes when clipping something, but KQ8 was always going to be a part of the series falling under the Sierra banner and a piece of work led by Roberta herself, as were all other seven parts previously.
However widespread its faults are, I believe it still has an impressive scale of depth, story and character. To whatever degree its original nature was meddled with by executives, the change was still a brave move and at the very least it was interesting to witness how previous games may have felt in tone if their atmosphere was more realistic. I love the comedy of KQ1 through KQ7 (another personal favourite, you're all probably going to question the legitimacy of me having an opinion ::)) but for the story that KQ8 told, the violence and darkness was very justified.
The backtracking was not unseen in previous adventures and the dismissal of the royal family, while disheartening, widened the scope of the franchise even if it did so in the last installment. King Graham was featured very little, but the opening FMV shows us how the family had finally managed to settle down despite years of strife. He is even seen discussing the successful production of crops that the Magic Mirror foretells. Finally he can oversee this without anything else overshadowing it! In KQ8 they are not abandoned characters, but rather victims who we, their own Guardian since the early 1980s, should feel motivated to save. The choice of lowly Connor also reinforces the notion of royalty not amounting to greatness, as we saw in the original game some twenty years prior, when a King sent a serving Knight out to regain the glory of his Kingdom. It's a clever angle that could have been pushed better, bringing the series full circle.
I respect everyone's opinion and yes, to many, KQ8 was an absolute farcical disappointment, and on a technical level I may have to agree. In terms of story, though, I completely understand where Roberta was headed with it.
On a separate note, why can't I actually write KQ-8? Is it because it was never actually called that or something to do with the legalities of numbering The Silver Lining?

Worked for me! Although I did recently learn that it technically wasn't '8'--it was just King's Quest: Mask of Eternity. But everyone refers to it as 8.

I loved KQ8 though. The reason I wanted to make a remake is not so much that I thought it was a terrible game, it is that I wanted to see it more how roberta intended it, but with my own twist (KQ6 style graphics, with roberta's storyline. or at least something like it)
A point-and-click remake of KQ8 would be very good, I'm sure. I just always refer to it as '8', although they probably didn't officially give it that title in an effort to illustrate its difference.
I suppose one thing I would like to see elaborated on is how the influence of the Mask Of Eternity had an impact on Daventry's history. Of course when the games were originally produced it hadn't been conceived, but all of a sudden in KQ8 the only reason people can go about their daily lives is because a golden relic isn't broken in pieces.
I don't know if I've been going off topic here, I just see this as getting to know me. :D

I like MoE as a game.
I even like MoE as a part of the world of Daventry.
I do not like MoE as a King's Quest -- a series needs to maintain some semblance of what it originally was, even if you're telling a dark story. MoE should have been the beginning of a spinoff series called... I don't know, "Connor's Quest" or something. "Peasant Quest" -- that wasn't taken at the time. :P We would have all accepted it and loved it as a spinoff, but the controversy really is just that it's called King's Quest.
