Title: SaveKQIX
Post by: koko_99_2001 on October 18, 2005, 06:48:14 PM
Hey everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know that myself and many
other King's Quest fans have joined together and started an organization to try to save KQIX.

Our website address is:  www.savekqix.org

We feel very strongly that our best bet to save the
game is through a letter writing campaign.  If you care about KQIX and want to see it released, I strongly urge you to take 10 minutes and write a letter to Vivendi Universal Games.  Let them know how much you were looking forward to the game.

I know some of you may have already sent emails.  That's great, but we still need you to send a physical letter via the good ol' postal service.  A physical letter will have so much more of an impact than an email.  The emails are probably never seen by anyone except a couple of low level people who's job it is to check those email
accounts.  It's easy to dismiss thousands of emails.  But it's hard to ignore thousands of actual letters. Physical letters will have  more of a visual impact.  Think of how those Vivendi executives will feel when the see those stack and stacks of letters!

I know some of you may have also signed the petition that has been circulating.  We think the petition IS a great idea, but really believe that a personally written letter from each one of you, rather than the
same petition, will be EVEN more effective.  In fact, the person that created the petition is a major part of our organization.  Oh, and don't worry; if you've already signed the petition, it WILL be sent to
Vivendi. However, we ask that you still write a letter to them.

Visit our webpage for the mailing address to VU Games.  Stop by the
forums and say hello.  Let's make it known that there are a lot of adventure game fans out here that want to see the game released.  We need EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU in order to be successful.

Please, take 10 minutes out of your day to write that letter.  It's the
best chance we have to save KQIX!

Take care,

Cat

I absolutely love Save KQIX! It not only expresses my feelings about the game, but makes me feel empowered--there is something we all can do, after all. Thanks to everyone who put their time and effort into this!  ;D

One thing I just thought of is that our efforts as fans to save the project should agree with the efforts of the developers to save the project. For example, it's one thing for us as fans to say that we'd welcome a commercial partnership between VU and POS to publish the game, but what if the developers wouldn't like that arrangement? If the publishers and the fans have the same ideas on saving the project, that's fantastic. If not, we need to figure out whether fighting this battle with two different strategies is helpful or detrimental to our overall goal.

Hi,

I am also in favor in saving KQIX.

Strange that VU seems to have remove link from their's forum especially the one
that explains the reason to shut down this project.

I guess we put enough presure on them and I hope that other website will do the same.

While no one from KQIX is a member of our organization, someone did share with them what we would be talking about on our website, and they indicated they had no problem with any of it.  So I think we are in good share on that front.

Also, we encourage you to write a personal letter to Vivendi as well as signing the petition. The petitions will arrive at Vivendi on the same day in one package; the individual letters will have staggered arrival times. :)

What address does the password come from? I need to add it to my "safelist." ( a thing that blocks all emails except for addresses put into it.)

Hey,

I just wanted to let everyone know that we're having to move the Save KQIX site to a different server.  The old server wasn't very reliable.

So the site may be down for the next day or so.

Hopefully by Monday, everything will be back up.

Hey guys, another update. We've had several people mention that they are unable to find the time to write letters to Vivendi. The SaveKQIX team has come up with a way to help each of you out. By going to www.savekqix.org, and clicking on "how you can help," there is a link that will directly take you to your email, as well as coming up with the text into the body of the email. In other words, it will take all of 10 seconds for you to send this.

Thanks for all your participation!

I've not kept up-to-date with Sierra since the good ol' days of KQ.
Are Ken & Roberta Williams still in charge? (or were they bought out and consumed by Vivendi?)

I find it kinda hard to see Roberta condeming this project - which I only wish I'd discovered sooner {looks excellent} -   If Sierra has been eaten up by some big corporate giant who doesn't give a damn about fans of the old games, then has anyone asked Ken & Roberta to campaign for this game?  I reckon they'd help you out.

{apologies if someone's already brought this up. I've only just stumbled across this project!}

This is not up to Robertal and Ken Williams, they are not part of Sierra and it's been like that quite some time ago. We can't ask them to do more than what they have, they've showed us support and they've both been glad with what they've seen, truth is, they're unable to do much hence they're on the same position that we are, completly alienated from VU without any contact, sad to say.

It's depressing to think 20 years ago they *were* Sierra.  If they were still in charge we'd have some much better games out today...  :(

It's been a very long time since I've posted anything. I heard what happened and I'm disappointed. I was really looking forward to playing this game. I sent an e-mail to Vivendi Universal. Here's what I wrote.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have received an e-mail several weeks ago from the people who have been working hard on King's Quest IX: Every Cloak Has a Silver Lining since the year of 2002. I am sending you this message to ask if you would reconsider. As you may or may not know, the King's Quest series have been enjoyed by lots of people, and so they, and myself, have been looking forward to this game because we felt that King's Quest VIII didn't do a good job of ending the series. It was different because a young man outside the Daventry familly named Connor was the main character, and also it didn't have the same feel as its predecessors because it was an action/adventure rpg. Furthermore, it didn't have any of the King's Quest characters in it that we've come to know and love because they were all turned into statues after the Mask of Eternity was broken. This is why we were looking forward to this game because we would meet our "old friends" again as well as several others from past games like Beauty and the Beast, the Oracle and the Winged Ones from King's Quest VI. Also, we'd see the past worlds like the land of Etheria from King's Quest VII and the Land of the Green Isles from King's Quest VI.

This game has so much potential and it's free. This was a non-profit game because Phoneix Online doesn't own the rights to this game, but you do. Couldn't you just let them give it to you so that you can sell it and we, the fans can play it? We were all very sad when we heard the news, and we're sending you e-mails and letters and asking you to please think this over.

Sincerely,
Philip Halabi

I don't think I could send a letter because I'm living with my parents, and I don't think they'd like it if I would give my address to just anybody. Should I just go ahead and do it anyway? I really want to help.

If you feel like you should, go ahead and send the letter. Technically, in an official business letter, your address isn't given out unless you put it as the return address on the envelope :)
Title: Re: SaveKQIX
Post by: nogoodreason on November 04, 2005, 12:57:34 PM
I strongly suspect one of the main driving factors behind them not wanting this game put out is the title.  Calling it Kings Quest IX immediately restrains them regarding any possible future KQ releases and they don't want to be put in that position.

I'm sure there's more to it than just that, but if people made it clear they were happy to rename the game it might win a few cards in our favour.

No offense but I don't think VU really cares what happened in MoE or why the royal family wasn't in it. After all Roberta produced it when it was stilkl Sierra. They also don't care what hapopens with the faeres or Etheria since that was like 1996,

"Ignorance and power both ruin people"

Pretty much sums up Vivendi and their whole take on Kings Quest.

You're right about that, Deloria. I doubt that Vivendi cares about adventure games.

Come on, guys! Let's not be pessimistic!

I mailed out the petitions last Saturday. Found out today that they arrived yesterday at Vivendi Univeral. I sent 143 out this batch...BUT if anyone was wanting to send me a petition and didn't get around to it, it's fine. Go ahead and send them still. I already have five that came in right after I mailed out the first batch. :)

 Hey everyone,

If you want to help us spread the word about the Save KQIX site, there's something very simple you can do.

Go here:

http://digg.com/software/Possible_New_Version_of_Kings_Quest

Click "digg it" on the left, under the number of diggs.

The more people who "digg it", the better the chances are that it'll make the front page of digg.com.  The more people who see it, the more people will find out about us.

Thanks!

Hello! Concerning to the "Save King's Quest IX" campaign, Koko and company are doing an excellent  job. I already sent a petition and a letter with Koko.  I tried to email Vivendi but there is no response; but I'll keep trying.

Good luck!  My best wishes for "Save KQIX" campaign to succeed in achieving their goal, and my best wishes for Phoenix Online to succeed in this  and any other project they have in mind in the future.

Thanks Blue Opal. Just so you know, I don't think anyone has received an email response :( I received one when I first emailed to their technical department, but they're the ones who told me to email to the game comments address.

Yesterday, I received a response to the letter that I had sent them.

"Thank you for sending us your feedback regarding the King's Quest series project that was shut down; I will take your comment into future consideration for future reference.

At this time we do not have enough inquiries from the public at large for us to pass on this information to the producers of the King's Quest games to reconsider this decision and reopen the project."

I wonder just how many "inquiries" they need before it's considered enough. :-\

EDIT: It seems that I'm not the only one who has received a similar, if not identical response.

Koko, I would like to help you with the save KQIX project. You can add my name to your list of petitions.  I would like to help any way I can. Is it possible to email Vivendi, or would I need to send a letter by regular mail? I'd rather use email, don't want Vivendi to know my address, I live with my parents too.

You can find more information about the petition by clicking on the link in my signature.

Also, by going to www.savekqix.org, you can find where and how to email Vivendi quickly. Actual letters are better, but are not required. Real letters are a lot harder to ignore.

Go to savekqix.org and check out my new post about support from outside the fanring of Adventure and KQ.  I doubt the destination will be reachable by only Adventure fans.  The press kit that savekqix will send out to major game mags will probably the best move of all but everything counts.  You cannot trust any number, you must aways seek more support, more people.

I'd just like to thank the SaveKQIX team again for all their hard work in spreading the word and building support. :)  The petitions and mail you guys sent in really helped to show VU the impact their decision made.

Your goal was successfully accomplished and KQIX a.k.a. The Silver Lining has been saved. :)
