Title: The KQ Companion
Post by: TakariFreak on September 16, 2002, 04:26:13 PM
Yeah!  I just got the 4th edition!  And read the entire thing!  Took me all day, but I did it!  And In my read, I found many interesting things (plus stuff that made me thing of other stuff):

In the narrative part, Rosella meets up with Attis (KQ7).  But in the game, even if she goes into the woods, he is nowhere to be found.....

Time passes faster in Etheria (which helps to explain Graham's cut line about V & R being 15 late for lunch).

There is a backstory about how Lolotte was once banished from Etheria (much like Malica was many years later).  In rage to get even, she stole the King & Queen's only son (who we all know to be Edgar).  But here's what gets me...as far as we know, she raised him as her own son!  What the??  The way the story went, she took him because she was angry, not because she truly wanted him...It's confusing to me.

Thought of mine:  Rosella "saved" Edgar with the extra life from the cat (whom I like to call Midnight, after my late bunny and my friends cat of the like).  So shouldn't Edgar be living a cat's life?  Also, cat's do not live as long as humans (and for the matter, faeries)

Another Thought of Mine (also commented by book's author):  The whole plot starts as V is trying to convince R into marriage.  Later on, when she learns that she is engaged to the troll KING, she gets all pissy.  What does she have against trolls?

Valanice (in the narrative part) gets yelled at by both Rosella and Graham for stealing the China bird (and Graham of all people, he stole a nightingale himsef!  And Graham did not originally intend to give it back to the true owner as Valanice did, instead he pawns it to the antique shop.  Now it turned out that the bird belonged there, but he didn't know that!!)

According to the KQ Companion, it is the mysterious Derek Karlavaegen who wrote the "Guidebook to the Land of the Green Isles", and it is he who "writes" the narrative part of Alex's KQ6 adventure.  But I thought he moved into Manannan's castle afetr Alex left there?

Alex's ship in KQ6 is named "Johannes Bey"  What a weird name...

In the book, the face on the coin is Valanice...but in the real game, it's Graham's face!!

There are more, but I can't remember them all.  I'll post them later when my memory bank opens for buiness again.

If I remember right in KQ2 the owner of the antique store tells you her bird was stolen, thats when I usually go get it.  So no i did not steal it......hehe

Derek Karlavaegen is someone who suposedly wrote a letter to Ken and Roberta Williams telling them about the KQ world. He claims that Daventry is real and that he had been there. He moves into Manannan's house after Alexander turns Manannan into a cat. I'm not sure, but I think Derek Karlavaegen is originally from 20th century earth.

Maybe the Williams lost contact with Derek Karlavaegen and thats why KQ : MOE had little or nothing to do with the previous King's Quest games.  Maybe he was turn to stone and the "REAL" Connor is still trying to restore the "REAL" Daventry.

If Daventry those indeed exist in some parallel world, I must admit I would LOVE to visit it.  ;)  It would be a remarkable place!!  ;D I'll book a flight next vacation I get! Forecast calls for sunny skies and 86 degrees! 8)

Akril -
About Valanice's reaction - If you're right, why doesn't she have the same reaction when Rosella meets Edgar? after all, he is of a different species (fairy), but she seems quite pleased with it ???. Could it be just because trolls are uglier and more disgusting than fairies, and are usually regarded as evil?
My suggestion is (keeping Valanice politicaly-correct) that thought Rosella was kidnapped and is being forced to marry, especially after her attitude towards marrige befor jumping into the pool - after that intro, why would she want to marry someone she's just met, who is a troll on top of it?

I'm trying to write my very first fanfic story, and wanted to get some facts straight:

- What is Lolotte's relation to the fairies of Etheria? why doesn't she live there?

- How old is Edgar?

- What's the story with the haunted house on KQ4, according to the KQ companion?

- What is the name of the ghost in the desert on KQ7 (I couldn't quite hear it...)?

Any help would be appriciated...  :D

The whole thing with Derek raises ONE interesting question: If the KQ-world is real, how is Sierra able to slap a trademark on it? You can only copyright things you made up, right? (intellectual property)

(on the other hand, the reason why this site and Tierra haven't been shut down yet may be......oh forget it)

I can (attempt to) answer those questions for you:

-I'm not sure about her relation to the inhabitants of Etheria. Her green skin just might make her related to Titania, but that is probably not the case.

-Who knows? Not I. No matter how I try, I cannot solve this puzzle. Sorry.

-The house is called Whateley Manor, and according to the Companion, it was actually built in our world, and then, as progress began to close in around the remaining magic, the mansion "teleported" to Tamir, or withdrew, as the book says (quite often). Not much is said about the inhabitants, or whether they lived in this world or the world of Daventry (which applies to the whole KQ world as well as the kingdom).

-The ghost's name is Colin Farwalker.

Thank you very much,  Akril -
I guess if even you don't know the answer it probably means there isn't any answer and I can just write whatever I want... :D

You can write whatever you want anyway. Peter Spear's book is as much fan-fiction as your story is. The only difference is that he published his story in the form of a book.

Don't give me ideas! all of us might regret it...  ;)

Still, I'd rather write it with as little contradictions as possible ;D.

Title: Question
Post by: Storm on December 03, 2002, 03:07:50 AM
Does anyone know what you're supposed to do with the sleeping powder you make in KQ3? I never managed to use it anywhere!

An easter egg I found on KQ3 (I don't know if that's a known thing) - if you fly over the ocean in the form of a fly, a fish might jump out and eat you, commenting on the tasty treat (maybe that comment is only heard if you have dough in your ears, I don't know).

Storm, the sleep powder is used on the pirate ship so you can safely escape.  Use it in the hold after "Land ho!" is heard)

Wasn't it supposed to be used in a dark cave or something? personally, I just waited on deck untill they say "Land Ho" for the third time, then jumped of the boat...
I used the teleportation stone to run away from the pirates (except for the first time I finished the game. Then I just ran for it  :P)

The spell calls for a dank, dark place.  The 2nd screen in the hold (where the mice are) qualifies for this.  You can always run for hell if you don't put them to sleep (but even if you do, you'd have to run for the killer shark).
