Title: Other fan adventures you're looking forward to
Post by: TribeHasSpoken on January 03, 2006, 12:24:58 PM
I thought this thread would be a good opportunity to learn about other fan adventures that are currently in development. The question is, which fan adventure (besides The Silver Lining) would you most like to see completed and released? Add a link if possible.

For me, it would be Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth (http://www.barnettcollege.com/index2.htm)

As an avid Tolkien fan, I'm eagerly awaiting the release of The Last Alliance (http://wildfiregames.com/tla/).

QuoteTLA is not a Lord of the Rings game. Seems counterfactual, true, but in fact TLA encompasses all Three ages of the Sun. The timespan that TLA covers is an astounding 7045 years; by comparison, the events in LotR happen within a single year. So if you know Tolkien's work only from LotR or the Hobbit, prepare to have your mind opened and served to you on a shining, mithril plate ;-)

So, they mean to say Lord of the Rings is a TLA game? ;P

Waiting (though not holding my breath) for AGDI's QFG2 remake (http://www.agdinteractive.com), Hero6 (http://www.hero6.com), and whatever it is IA (http://www.infamous-adventures.com) are making :)

IA is also making Quest for Infamy, which is supposed to be parody of QFG (well, you play as a bad guy)  ::) :P which I'm really looking forward to. Then there's also the KQ4 remake, and Tale of Two Kingdoms.

That's a pity, though it never actually says it's dead.

I remember seeing an interesting little demo for a dystopian future adventure game; "Byzantine." Demo showed that an AWFUL lot of work was needed to bring it up to standard but after it was released I never heard of it afterwards!

Definately would like to see that one!

*Sigh* 'Tis true. I emailed him myself when I heard and this is what I got in reply:

QuoteYes, sadly enough, the remake is cancelled. I started the project at a
time where I had enough time to work on the game full time. But as my
college classes picked up it became more and more difficult to work on
the project. I'm sorry to let you down.

If someone requests the work I've done (namely artwork) I'd be happy to
provide it.

Bryce

Soooo..... does anyone want to make KQIV VGA? ::)

Mat Dickie's murder-mystery game which he should be putting out eventually. The guy never ceases to amaze me, considering he is a solo game-developer.

And they even have a link to KQIX!

Cool, I Love that fans are really trying hard to share the wonderful experience of the King's Quest series with everybody in new ways. When I saw the old site I thought of making my own game. But now I might like to join them. If they don't want me I'll just continue preping for my orignal ideas: A Fool's Errand, and Tom Sops: The Untamed Eye.

Fool's Errand is about a jester that gets acused of murder and desides to skip kingdom. On his journey for redemption he meets friends, foes, and interesting charactors. When he finally returns to his homeland with evidence of his innocence he has become a battle hardened mage.

Tom Sops is more of a silly detective romp like Sam and Max.
(I've never played Sam and Max so don't spoil it for me. I'm gonna play it for tips on how to make my game better. This is a remake of the first game I made with Qbasic. It was basically a Choose Your Own Adventure type game, but I want to make it a full adventure game with items and stuff.) :)

What else did he make?

-Some crazy/hilarious wrestling computer games which appeal to the non-wrestling fan (me).

-A game called "Lost" where you are stranded on an island.

-"Popcorn" and "Popscene", which are movie/music industry simulators.

www.mdickie.com

Granted, his games don't have the best graphics, but he's just a college student doing this on spare time on small funds and finishes them in 3 months or less. His graphics for the murder mystery (due in '06), though, promise to be good.

Good news and bad news on Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth (http://www.barnettcollege.com). The good news is that they have a demo out, the bad news is that they're asking for donations in an effort to get the voice actor from Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis to reprise the role of Indy for their game. Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't asking for money for a fan game, even on a voluntary basis, create worse legal trouble than a simple C&D letter?

Yes it does, very much.

Imagine if KQ9 ask for Donations, VU would shut this Website down in a flash and no Fan War will ever work to get this site up again.

The Admins and Mods will get sued and no more KQ9, ever.

The mods probably couldn't, they're just there to keep the forum on-topic and prevent falme-wars. :P

lol, that's a drastic way of putting it, but yes you're correct. :P

If we asked for any kind of donation (and a lot of people have offered actually), we would probably have received a C&D sooner, and most likely been sued for intellectual property damages, exceeding anything we could have even made from the donations.  The site would most likely have gotten shut down, because it would be seen as funded from this "illegal" money.

However, everything I just said is that of my own opinion.  I'm not an expert in law, nor claim to be.  Maybe there's a legal loophole that allows accepting donations for the sole purpose of paying someone for a service, rather than for the development of the game itself?  In any case, I would say they're taking a real risky path and definitely not one I would suggest.

EDIT: I just visited the link, and by the looks of it, they're accepting donations for the game itself.  So, yeah, definitely not a good idea IMO.
