Title: Computer Gaming World
Post by: Say on February 19, 2006, 03:37:17 PM
I wanted to let everyone know that in the latest edition of Computer Game World, TSL team features with an article/ feature, as well as you can see an exclusive video that comes within the CD Media of the magazine.

The article is quite interesting because it covers an interview with us as well as with Marcus Beer and Ken William's comments. The video is also the best eye candy you can get, it has the making of TSL which was given exclusively to VU, and CGW got the interview with a longer uncut version of it.

Enjoy! :)

Is the video available online?

Not yet, we might consider that once the new stuff comes online ;)

For now, I recommend you all to run to Barns & Nobles because that's where everyone is going to to get it :)

I'm running to Barnes and Noble the minute I get the chance!

Oh, and thanks for the clear up, Cat! I never would have known if you didn't tell me!

AWESOME! :o :o

When is this magazine coming out? What's on the cover? What month's issue is it?
Title: Computer Gaming World
Post by: Say on February 19, 2006, 08:46:39 PM
March 2006 :)

As I've heard from people who have tried to get the magazine, the one that comes with the CD is the one where you find all this. I believe it's a special edition or something? Not sure, but make sure you get it!! :)

Cool! I tried to figure out what the cover looks like, but the CGW website is basically 1up with a CGW banner instead of the 1up banner... >:(

How long is the exclusive video, and how many pages is the article?
Title: Computer Gaming World
Post by: TribeHasSpoken on February 19, 2006, 10:37:47 PM
The article is only one page long. I haven't seen the video yet.

Computer Gaming World is $8.99 (the DVD edition), and is available at any good-sized bookstore. I picked up a copy this evening and was pleased to see that they gave me an extra disc! ;D (In case I wear the first one out from overuse?)

Also, I'm uploading both of the videos on the DVD as we speak, and will have them available for public viewing shortly. :)

If it goes down, for whatever reason, I'm more than happy to make another mirror. (In fact, I probably will anyhow, just for kicks...)

Awesome! Downloading now....thanks for putting up the mirrors...that first site was trying to put tons of spyware and porn ads on my screen...

I just noticed that when I'm tired I tend to use a lot of elipses...interesting...

EDIT: Watched the trailer, it's the same as last time but with a new Silver Lining logo...looks good. Downloading the making of video...

It's too bad Neil wasn't in it though.. and I loved Oldbushie's performance.. :P

A question though.. the music featured in it, is that from the game?

Anyway, that's so great.. thanks to all the team members who made this video, you all did a great job!  8)

I just the "Making of" video. It....was......AWESOME O.O

The vocal music would sound better if I were singing it. :P Ok, just kidding; I can't sing that well. :P It still makes me sad that I didn't send in an audition thing for a part. :P

The 3-D tour of The Castle of the Crown was AWESOME! :P

I am speechless... I can only wait unitl this comes out. And I usually hate waiting, but this seems different. Like I can stand it... And it's all thanks to you, POS! (And Say!)

Now all we need are shirts that say we helped revive TSL to it's current, and future, glory! :P

Way to go, POS!

Every single bit of the things in the video were the coolest I've ever seen. I enjoyed every mill-second of the video!

Keep up the goodwork!

It's terrific! !!!

But I noticed at the end that the website said www.silverliningthegame.com (http://www.silverliningthegame.com). Is this a typo (did you mean www.silverlininggame.com (http://www.silverlininggame.com)), or are you going to get another new url? (I tried going to www.silverliningthegame.com (http://www.silverliningthegame.com) and there was nothing there. :P)

www.silverliningthegame.com redirects to www.tsl-game.com, just like www.silverlininggame.com does. My guess is that the site in the trailer (www.silverliningthegame.com) is going to be the new official home.

I finally downloaded it after three crashes. -_-'
The game looks good but I hope the cgi scenes were not the final
renders. The sketchs look really good. Even if the renders are final I'll still play it, but I don't think they are. The Music was fantastic as always. And Cesar reminds me of one of the lead programmers on doom only hes not white. If you watch the Doom 3 making of you'll know what I mean. I wish it had been longer hopefully the next one will have more members of the team on it. Good job guys.

Dirk

P.S. Cesar Do not worry about your looks. We could care less what you look like. We love you for who you are.
In my mind your an outstanding team leader. Thanx

P.P.S. Will the final renders look more like doom 3, or will they be pixalated and blocky like the video. Don't get me wrong but I've played a lot of games on systems like Atari,NES,Commadore,Genesis,Snes,Pc-Engine,Jaguar,Saturn,TigerGames,Many Gameboys,N64,NeoGeo,GameGear,PS2,Gamecube,Xbox,Xbox 2, Pc and more so I think I know a bit about graphics. Not saying I can draw better than any of you, but I'm a good judge of games. In my personal opinion I think it could use some more work. but seeing as it's only a making of video. It's probably gonna rock when your finished. LOL
Sorry about the long winded speech...
I really love KQ and what to see what's best for it. Hee Hee :sweating:
One more question. why not use bump maping?

thanks all!

for the comments of not being ugly lol

anyhow, some of that cutscene stuff is still work in progress. The whole video is a work in progress. You can expect the cutscene stuff to look like that in the trailer. Also, it looks grainy because of the compression. That won't happen for the game :)

Hope that clears up doubts :)

It will be a few hours yet before I get a chance to watch the video, and have therefore only seen Cesar's photograph in the journal section of the website. However, in order to protect myself against any error I may commit in the future that would normally result in being fired, let me just say that Cesar is an Adonis. I don't think Say or Neil appear on the video, but since they also probably have the power to vote me off the island for incompetance, I think that every teenage boy should have a poster of Say on their wall, and every teenage girl should have a poster of Neil.

If my attempts at flattery are insufficient, or I have missed anyone else who I should be sucking-up to, please let me know and I'll rectify that immediately.  ;P

anyhow, some of that cutscene stuff is still work in progress. The whole video is a work in progress. You can expect the cutscene stuff to look like that in the trailer. Also, it looks grainy because of the compression. That won't happen for the game :)

Hope that clears up doubts :)

Who said anything about doubts? I have one hundred percent confidence that TSL will become the most famous adventure game ever made. After all, it is based off KQ! (Maybe not that far, but still... I think it will be good.)

Adonis was a beautiful human that Aphrodite fell in love with. When he scorned her, she prophesized his death and sent him to Persephone, who immediately fell in love with him aswell and refused to give him back. Zeus settled the argument by sentancing him to live for 1/2 of the year with Aphrodite and the other half with Persphone.

I've just downloaded the trailer, and I have two comments:

1.  The animation is of the highest quality.  When Graham talks, you can see his facial muscles move, not just his mouth.

2.  It appears that the game will have more of a story than even KQ5 and KQ6, as opposed to a minimal story as an intro to set up the game.

BTW, why is it called a trailer?  A trailer follows something, whereas a trailer to a movie or a game precedes it.
Title: Re: Computer Gaming World

Title: Re: Computer Gaming World
Post by: maestro on February 26, 2006, 04:36:51 PM
I think it's not so much messed up as confusing to use.  Plus only one free download is permitted at a time, so, if someone else is downloading for free, you have to wait for them to finish if you're not registered with them.

that doesn't make much sense. Did you mean a trailer follows something, whereas a "teaser" precedes it?

I nany case, yeah, this is more in the definition of being a teaser, but people cal them trailer altogether. A "theatrical" trailer (if you want to call it that) will come later. However, they will always precede the game, never after it's been released. "Trailers" that are released after the movie are normally ad spots.

hope that helps
Title: Re: Computer Gaming World
Post by: maestro on February 26, 2006, 09:40:30 PM
Well, to trail means to follow.  For example, if the police are trailing a suspect, they are following him.  Also, a trailer is a vehicle that is being towed by another vehicle, and so follows it, such as a tractor semi-trailer, a camping trailer, or a boat trailer.

I wouldn't call it a teaser; I'd call it a preview or a promo.
Title: Re: Computer Gaming World
Post by: Moodyblues on February 26, 2006, 10:57:06 PM
Trailers get their name from the old practice of showing previews after the feature film.  This was later changed because most people would leave the theater right after the movie was over.

http://www.reference.com/browse/wiki/Trailer_%28movie%29 (http://www.reference.com/browse/wiki/Trailer_%28movie%29)
Title: Re: Computer Gaming World
Post by: Cez on February 27, 2006, 01:45:52 AM
like Moody exposes, names in the industry are not necessarily literally correct, but nonetheless, they are still terms adapted by both the industry and the society. It's like calling the last shot of a movie (during production) "the martini shot". By definition, a martini shot is... what? lol They still give it that name, however. They are "slangs" that become a norm to our vocabularies.

Thus, it's still a trailer, whether it comes before, after, or during the middle of a game/movie.

Either that, or the whole Movies/Games industry is utterly wrong and you are right ;) somebody oughta tell this to "Apple" and their hyper famous "trailers" site. :)

I've read on your home page:
http://www.tsl-game.com/ (http://www.tsl-game.com/)

I don't understand the part POS gave an extended version to VU.
Maybe that was show POS is thankfull toward VU. If is the case then I have no problem with that and providing it has no affect with License given by VU though!

I've just watched the video and must say that i'm really impressed
w the cinematic touch of the game. The music is GREAT and you guys are really getting the best out of the 3d environment.
The models look pretty cool too, although there are some details that could still be improved (you can see graham's neck through the back of his shirt and some characters talk without moving their lips).

I'm sure we'll all love this game! Thank you guys for such a great job.

Just a few questions/comments:
1. Ooga Booga Land is frozen (please, don't say it's winter :P)
2. Why is the oracle from KQ3 dead?
3. What is Edgar doing in Lewdor?
4. Did Valenice have a nervous breakdown?
5. When Graham rescues Valenice in KQ2, she is wearing light blue, in The Making Of she is wearing green.

(Everyone, I'm not giving out spoilers, I'm just assuming :P)
From these comments we can assume:
a-There was a storm (Salading said so), that's why Ooga Booga Land was frozen
b-The oracle was slain by someone/thing magical (notice the symbols)
c-They were going to see Derek Karlavaegen
d-Valenice has many repressed memories, something triggered a breakdown and she remembers what happened in her youth.
e-Hagatha provided a change of clothes
Although with the game's title change is there a possibility that KQ9 will be released by VUE?

The GameSpy article (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/freeware-king8217s-quest-ix/677071p1.html) about the resurrection of the project included the following:

The game can no longer be called "King's Quest" and must be billed as being "inspired by world of King's Quest," and the company reserves the right to bring the game in-house if they feel there are commercial possibilities for it, but other than that, the team of dedicated fans had done the impossible -- convinced a corporation to allow a group of outsiders to get their hands on their IP.

The meaning of this could be interpreted in a few different ways, but I thought I'd alert you to it anyway.

Got a time index? If you have, please PM it to me, I don't normally check this section of the forum.
I have to say at the end of the KQIX-trailer the image was clearer than its equivalent in the TSL-trailer.
The making of-video was great! ;D

TSL trailer? I never learned of such a thing! Is it brand new, or is it the same thing with the new title? And where do I find a picture of the Winged One's thrones empty? (I'm really out of the loop!)

GREAT ARTICLE!!! I actually felt goosebumps when reading about the Black Cloak and Silver Cloak Societies. If I could I would wrap any loose ends myself.
